Agreed.
Being a fan long enough, u get kinda tired hearing the same pure "hits" like LRC and defintely Let's Go Crazy. A little more of the known yet less familiar songs like he did w/ the Musicology tour playing 7, Alphabet St, Sometimes It Snows in April, songs like that. I would also like to hear more of the new album at every tour, especially in the beginning of the show to keep my interests going. Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

This was one of the best most recent shows next to the Paisley Park 2009 Show P did. I have not been impressed with the choice of songs P has done with the European shows but, if I was there when he was doing them, that would be a different story ... LoL Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I think with Prince since he's not traditionally a huge seller in the way his other '80s contemporaries were, there's only a few faithful that would dig anything he sings. Mainly if he held concerts in Paisley Park, you'll get more newer or unreleased songs than the classics. But if he were to do a tour of the Americas he probably do what he's been doing in Europe. Ain't no telling with him. He could do a classics-free show one day and a classics-heavy show the next. Depends on the venue.

To be fair, isn't Prince's setlists on an official tour 90% the same every night? I really don't have to ask, I already know the answer. YES. This is true for most artists. Madonna just always does the new material, Prince doesn't anymore. TRUE BLUE

Exactly. "New Power slide...."

I never understood this either. Has he ever explained on why he started playing them again?
Anyway, yes I've had definitely more than enough of "Let's Go Crazy", never liked the song much and that he still (almost) opens with it, giving it a prominent spot on the setlist, saddens me because he has so many more and much better songs to choose from.
I've also had enough of him telling people to chant "I like funky music" for what feels like 20 minutes, and with his huge number of great songs there really is no need for him to play other people's hits or covers so much (and didn't he hate it when bands covered his songs, than why do it yourself?).
Okay, enough ranting, mind you he's still my favourite artist of all time!
Forever changed | |

How many that are tired are hearing the hits will decide to not buy tickets to the next tour?
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I already said I won't. I have no desire to see another hits show/tour. Especially with this band, which really isn't my favorite that he's worked with.

Gotta love that: millions of people visiting Madonna concerts = all hardcore fans. Thousands of people visiting Prince concerts = random folks who can't stand to hear anything but the hits. © Bart Van Hemelen

Hilarious. The nonsense you lot believe. Yes, the world is full of hideously rich people who've earned their fortune peddling books about Prince, and selling bootleg recordings.

I might go if the show was in the centre of Paris with decent ticket prices.
That said, I made no real effort to go to the Grand Palais and, of course, Arras was just out of the question.
And from the gig reviews/setlist, looks like I made the right decision.

Madonna plays FAR LARGER gigs than Prince. Yet the post just above this one you claim that when playing large crowds artists have to play the hits.

Did I say she doesn't sing her old songs? No I said her concerts LARGELY consist of new music. But you lot can't bear to admit defeat, so you keep making up lies.

Am I lying? Does Madonna play to LARGER AUDIENCES than Prince? Do her setlists consist of 80% NEW material? Calling that bullshit is lying in order to avoid admitting defeat. © Bart Van Hemelen

Bart, Madonna's setlists are about 50-60% new music versus hits, not 80% (although she's had newer hits, so it depends what you think of as new vs hit e.g. 4 minutes). However it's not 80%, unless you've seen setlists I haven't, in which case I'd appreciate a link. Your points may still be valid, but I suspect that particular 'fact' isn't.

Bullcrap yourself.
He know it's happening because he's hired lawyers to remove it from the internet.
I said nothing about the recordings or photos being done by professionals. For one who claims to really know the score, you seem to have a problem grasping this concept.
I'm firmly planted in denial

You are full of shit...Because u know that Prince's setlist is connected to a particular audaince...But you coviently brush over that very point because of your strange obsessive agenda to crap on all things Prince on a Prince site no less....Ha!...You give a bad name to people who honestly want to have intelligent, constructive criticism of the man's work.....
It's been established (and shown) that when Prince plays a "Prince" show, he is much more looser with the playlist...Hell, during his last dates before his current European tour, the biggest hit he played was "Little Red Corvette"....You are clearly manipulating things to push your talking points when you don't even take into account that artists who play FESTIVAL settings usually play their hits...And that's what exactly has been happeng Bart...Prince's recent European gigs have been performed in front of music fans who only know his well-known material, not the "Prince fans" who know the new material....
There is no reasoniing with you anymore....It's time to be truthful and admit you are incapable of having a level-headed discussion about Prince and his music.... [Edited 7/21/10 7:27am]

So answr this question.
Who sings live to larger audiences?
Prince, as Madonna Mimes to her songs in concert.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I just don't honestly see a big deal, if he's doing the hits at festival gigs and the fan-known stuff at other concerts, then I don't see the problem.
Guess you can't please everyone...

How do you define NEW music? like from her most recent album? Just wondering cuz this is her setlist from last year Madonna Concert at Estadio Vicente Calderon, Madrid, Spain Setlist on July 23, 2009
Now Bartboy, do the math and tell me the % of this setlist you consider NEW music. [Edited 7/21/10 10:59am] Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!
