TONIGHT - the media in Denmark is hoping for a Prince "Greatest Hits show" in Roskilde + danes: set ur recorders july 10

On the danish TV channel TV2 News, Erik Jensen from the danish paper Politiken said yesterday something like Prince could choose to play a Fusion Jazz set and a greatest Hits set. He was hopeing for a Greatest hits set, a Jazz set would disappoint most of those on this festival.

Today: another big danish tabloid newspaper Ekstra Bladet have an article on the same subject, they also want to hear those old hits, instead of Prince's latest material. There's a comment from a younger girl, 20 years old, she knows Purple Rain and Kiss, and is familliar with the old hits, but she knows nothing about Prince's latest records, she does not want him to play his latest songs.

Here' is a top 5 - what EkstraBladet.dk wants Prince to play tonight:

1. ’Purple Rain’

2. ’Raspberry Beret’

3. ’Sexy MF’

4. ’When Doves Cry’

5. Alphabet St.

the whole danish article:

http://ekstrabladet.dk/mu...372452.ece

Edit:

DANES: SET YOUR TV RECORDERS: a 2½ hours tv-special from Roskilde 2010:

There's a chance -maybe- to see Prince on danish TV.... so danes set your TV recorders to saturday 10th of july 2010 from 20:00 to 22:30 on TV channel DR2.

According the tv schedule there will be a tv special on Roskilde Festival 2010,

where "you will meet artists performing like Fallulah, Kashmir, Vampire Weekend, Patti Smith, Den Sorte Skole, Robyn, Staff Benda Bilili, Gorillaz and many many others."

No mention about Prince in the program, so far... but I doubt DR2 will bring 2½ hours without the leading name from Roskilde: Prince.

For more info about this "Theme evening" on Roskilde Festival go to the danish tv schedule, here: http://www.dr.dk/DR2/Tema...141323.htm

(Ps I was told by Luv4U to use this thread for this info.. done)

I think what they mean by "a Fusion Jazz set" is something like the One Nite Alone tour in 2002.

This ONA tour got lukewarm reviews in Denmark, if I remember right. wink

Delirious?! Nice.

Seems like he's in the mood to rock a bit more than he has been in a long while.

I followed people's comments on BT Live during the show. The webmaster complained that Prince was playing marathon jams/very long songs, and that he left the stage to his choirsingers for a VERY long time without even returning in a new set of clothes. eek

A dissatisfied 24 years old guy complained that he didn't know enough of the songs, but that's not really Prince's fault, is it. wink

Supposedly, Prince played a cover of Bill Withers' Lean On Me and Nothing Compares 2 U and ended the show with PURPLE RAIN, making everyone happy at the end.

The extras supposedly included a cover of Michael Jackson's But I Do Know That I Love You, and I do know that I'm not familiar with that particular Michael Jackson song. biggrin

Well, I was there, and he did play some great funky song after that, with a lot of false endings, and him saying "We can't stop". It was great!

And actually he started off with an instrumental - was it "Venus de Milo" or "Visions"? Anybody?

Anyway: Fantastic show, tight and loose at the same time. Wow, what a musician!

By the way:

What stood out, and which no reviews seem to notice, is that of all his own songs, he only played one (1) that wasn't from the 80s. Nothing from the upcoming album, nothing from LotusFlower, just that great 80s vibe all through.

I have no idea why!

Well, on a festival, most of the audience will only know Prince as "the guy that wore purple and sang like a girl on Kiss", I'm sure. At least those, who only know Prince as 1) something they stopped listening to in 1993 or 2) a name they've seen in their mum and dad's record collection up on the attic.

More or less any legacy act on a festival plays the well known hits or favorites. In case Prince had played songs from The Rainbow Children and anything from his NPG Music club days, I think he'd have made people walk out on him. People on festivals might be there to catch Gorillaz, Robyn, Muse and The National (or anybody "current"), thinking: "..and while I'm here, I'll catch Prince as well .. didn't he do that song .. erhm .. Pink Pain and When Diamonds Cry or som'in?" and want to experience the familiar, for the most part.

Festivals are a good place for Prince to broaden his fanbase, with concerts that underlines in thick bold letters: "I fucking rule, bitches" .. and hopefully, people will run out and buy his latest record (as it's probably the only one available in the shops) or dig into his back cataloge.

If you want to experience Prince trying out new suits and tunes, I think you'd want to go to a concert exclusively dedicated to him.
