Even if you took that in to account, he's still only getting 75% of 13% of the sales!

So, for every $1000 his product makes, he would get $97.50, based on that model! Yeah, sign me up to that! confused

Sure, that explains his business decisions. But he's coming from a very privileged position remember, new and upcoming artists can't strike a deal with print media around the world to distribute their latest offering for a nice wire transfer upfront.

Of course, but only because of the 30 years of work he's already put in - its not like he hasn't earned his "privelege", which kind of makes "privelege" the wrong word wink

New and upcoming artists have to discover their own way for themselves.

"Packaging charge: 25 percent of the SLRP (suggested list retail price) goes back to the record company immediately for what's called a "packaging charge" -- that's the label literally charging the artist for the plastic case in which his or her CD is sold."

I guess that also explains some of the CD packaging as of late. Instead of buying a jewel case, just pocket the money.

What I am trying to understand is why "Rolling Stone," in Germany is carrying the July 22cd release of "2010," and why the U.S.A. is not having the album released over here.

I would like someone to explain this to me....Otherwyz, I am going to assume...It is based on..

"Funnel Distribution." razz

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

interesting chart. in my opinion its still better to get a little money, than sell-out completely to a tabloid for a lot.

maybe the answer is a balance between between principles and cash.

this too shall pass

Why is this current distribution method "selling out"?

What's so heinous about the Mirror?

What would be a "kosher" alternative?

Should Prince radically change his lifestyle? You know, live like the rest of us - sell Paisley Park, move in to a 3-bedroomed house and make music in a basement, thereby limiting his scope, his income, his ability to play in any country he chooses etc etc? Is that more morally digestable for you?

Why is there a difference in principle to him giving away music with a national newspaper to any other newstand publication - like Guitar Player, for instance?

Sorry, did I mistakenly enter the schoolyard? I pose 5 questions to you and you can't even answer one?

I know what the difference is, I'm asking you what you think it is - perhaps you don't have an actual answer?
