I'm still feeling this one. I actually wish it was longer. A nice instrumental section on the end would have been great to continue the romantic vibe... if ya know what I'm sayin'. lol

Yeah, yeah. That's what I think this song lacks. More musical open space. I'm thinking something like Insatiable, where the song has room to breath. This one feels a little cramped.

Look man, you can listen to Prince but you can't hear him. There's a difference man. Just because you're listening to Prince doesn't mean you're hearing him.

There is plenty of meat in this song, it's a ballad from a male to a woman, and it's hard for some people to releate to the lyrics in this ballad. ever since the man has stopped the phony misleading sexual ambiguity type lyrics, a certain segment of fandom gets left out in the cold and continue to pout and dismiss a very well written ballad, it's a good ballad, what's wrong with a good ballad these days?

Every song gets to a certain place.. this one never does.. It just dances around a possible moment to remember and kindof drifts off..

Beautiful.

A vintage, Prince-of-yore ballad.

Stands with 'Scandalous', 'Do Me Baby', 'Adore', 'When 2 R in Love'. One of Prince's best.

Reading these comments is like reading the majority of reactions of the past 15 years to Prince's soul songs. 'Boring', 'zzzzzzzz', 'plastic', 'tired', 'what the fuck is this?'. I think many here, particularly Europeans (and I live in the UK) prefer Prince's rock material. The soul jams just get over-looked and under-appreciated.

Most here would complain if he released 'Electric Intercourse' or 'Slow Love' now. 'Slow love meanders, fair song, but nothing great', 'Electric Intercourse is generic r&b with cheesey lyrics', 'When 2 R in Love is a snooze-fest' ... .

Pop or rock seems to be the order of the day here. Any other Prince genres such as funk, r&B, jazz seem to be regarded as irrelevant.

'Goes nowhere'? Exactly WTF does that mean? Where does 'Kiss' go? or 'Wonderful Ass'? 'When 2 R in Love'?

And how anyone with ears can compare this to 'Future Baby Mama' is beyond me. Akin to saying 'Boom' is 'like' 'Colonized Mind' because both have heavy guitars on them.

This one's slightly better than "Walk in Sand", had the potential to be longer than it did. Just above filler.

Yeah my initial thoughts of it have changed. It's not a masterpiece but it's alright.

But the lyric "I've read your letters/and every word/no one writes better/least none that I heard"

I know he was trying to make a rhyme but that didn't make sense. lol

I do love the chorus though. nod

"Will you wander in wilderness searching for a King

Or will you settle for a Prince and a sea of everything?"

I dig that part. nod

Haha! Every Prince Album needs its obligatory Slow Jam, this ticks all the usual boxes.

Nothing special, but could be a grower... :/

yeah

I see your picture

wherever I go

I'm not here to lecture

just letting u know

I know you're busy

the world's calling you

and if u don't answer

what will u do?

u wander the wilderness

searching for a king

will u settled for Prince

and the sea of everything

I read your letter

every word

no one writes better

least none that i've heard

U sound so happy

or is it a charade?

will u still u feel the same

when the spot light fades?

will you wander the wilderness

searching for the king?

(searching for a king)

will you settle for a prince

and the sea of everything?

oooo

U and me are like 2 ship passing

Never never

never reaching shore

If we everdid

ohh

if we ever did

(did)

we'ed just want more

More and more

no reason 2 care

what people say

I don't care

but the keys are so far

so far

so far

so far away

no need to say

no need to say

I'd die without u

becasue I made, I made

what will u do?

Wilderness

wander the wilderness

searching for a king

or will you settle for this

settle for this

and the sea of every thing?

will you wander the wilderness

searching for a king

or will you settle for this

and the sea of everything?

These lyrics are beautiful...yet come on Prince...Being with U could never be "Settling." How could it be when your Soul is carrying Heaven around? cool

Think of it as "nobody writes better--turns a phrase--at least no one I've every heard of" like this is his opinion...

As if to counter my feelings about Walk in Sand Prince tries to get me in with another ballad built around a scandalous beat but sadly it doesn't draw me in the way he used to. It just feels like he is not offering anything new here, and part of a Prince album was being taken somewhere new. At least it is more pleasing to my ear than Walk In Sand, but it wouldn't be the first slo-jam I would reach for from Prince. But must give special mention to the layering of the backing vocals - always a treat.

No need to say I'd die without you, because if I did then what would you do?
