Love the claps and linn use, doesn't sound generic Love the changes, doesn't sound layered synth use is nice too and the background vocals don't over power his

You notice he never says compassion all the way through, he sings compash?
Compash? Silly.
Decent song. I like the chorus, how it makes you feel all hippy like. Blunt funk. Starts out cheesy, but it is good. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I loved the opening music. It's a little Dirty Mind -esque, a little Controversy -esque. And then he started singing, and the music changed a bit... and he ruined it.
It's forgettable. Not something I'd listen to. I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.

I like the overall sound, but I can't help hearing Play In The Sunshine and wondering why he changed the lyrics.

I think someone might have already said this. but at about 1:20 on this song I think we have the music from "Time Warp" from Rocky Horror...

This belongs on a peppy PSA.
Sucks. | |

Seems a bit over produced to me. At first it grabs your attention with a familiar sound that makes you think back to the days of the 'Purple Era' (1999 - SOTT) and then it just goes all haywire. It's not horrible but sometimes less is more and even though I understand what he is trying to do with the retro sound, but imagine how SOTT would have sounded if he had done it as 1999/Purple Rain Pt II.
PEACE! | |

it'll take more than 1 listen to get the full intake.. I started feeling it 2/3rd of the way through.. it had a colorful array of sounds with no biting hook nothing special in my opinion "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

it's a cute song, but you guys are right - it's reminiscent of "Play in the Sunshine".
i like the background vocals though. How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

Why? Because they're two great songs. Why WOULDN'T you want to make a combo of them? At least it's not a combo of something else and Arms of Orion! ARGH!

Killer track and great opener for the album!
This song is upbeat, rockus and superb. If I were to compare it an older set of songs I would say It gives me the rush of electricity of songs like Let's Go Crazy and even Play In The Sunshine. I think this is a perfect way to begin an album. If Planet Earth had an opening track like this I feel that it would have punched the album up with energy. I love Planet Earth but my only issue was having that album open with a stand out uptempo jam like Compassion.

Lotus was a great album... Love Like Jazz to Return to the Lotus is the best sequence of songs on any Prince album, ever. Book it.

My thoughts on the track initially was I thought it was a great opener but now after hearing it in my stereo, it's not so good after so many listens. It's probably OK now. It was better when it was called "Sexuality".

No. Tired of Prince using this drum pattern. Tired of the dramatic "da dadada" synth lines (at least they aren't ear splitting in the mix). Tired of the happy group backing vocals. Lyrics are near cheese, too. Don't like.

Well this one has grown into a skipper.

lesser "Play in the Sunshine" - Linn is annoying in this one. Lesser Rosie Gaines on it too. Not sure who the female voice is, but copying Rosie's style.

Yeah I thought it was Rosie initially but now hearing it, someone definitely is a swagger jacker on this. And it's not just the music of this track hahaha
