I gave the album a few hours to settle in the ol' melon and now I'm giving it another listen. I just don't dig this joint. It's too reminiscent of previous work, but not as good as any of those songs. IMO.

I think I tend to agree. It's just too flat - and that's a problem with a lot of tracks on this one.

This has nothing 2 do with the song but i must say that I'm not crazy bout all of Prince's music but this kinda song and album is what a majority of u snobs have were wishing 4 (and I'm not sure what qualifies most of u ppl 2 b snobs cuz every time one of u tries 2 pitch one of ur own songs or albums on here, it's total garbage). If Prince is using familiar drum patterns and takin steps back towards 1982 its cuz most of his fans r stuck there. Maybe most of u r upset cuz its not 1982 anymore and its 2010 and u r well over 40. I did an experiment with MPLSoUND with a older friend of mine that hasn't listened 2 Prince in years cuz "his new music sucks". I played a few songs 4 him and told him they were outtakes from 1982-83 and no surprise he for on a rant and said SEE THIS IS THE TRUE PRINCE and he can't do it like this no more. He was feeling it cuz he thought it was from that 1999 era. I laughed at his cuz he was fooled. Then I told him this was the new album. His excitement changed. He flipped back in2 that negative mode. All of a sudden he thought the songs were crap. I can't understand what ppl want from the guy. Then it dawned on me, he is a moron and simply is against liking current Prince. Now he is entitled 2 b a moron just like most of u. And u r entitled 2 get mad at my post if this applies 2 u. Lol the fact is, the music u so called artists here make is generic. So maybe u shouldnt b commenting like r u musical experts. Opinions on what's good and bad will differ. This forum is not constructive with its feedback anymore... if u like in the future ill tell u why ur homemade cd sucks and why it will never b heard by anyone but the ppl on the org that feel so bad 4 u that then give ur deal a pity listen.

Yep, I was thinking along these lines. Not a bad song though methinks.

Kind of Par For The Course 4 Prince in the 2000's. hmmm

Some folks been said it. lol

It's missing the dance step lyrics.

"It's just a jump to the left...and a step to the right..."

I can imagine the video being Prince's partygoers doing some similar dance to the "time warp" in that garb and Prince invites someone in like his name was Riff Raff and Shelby J or whatever her name is could be Magenta.

I love Rocky Horror by the way but Prince definitely was watching that movie too much. lol

Great. Comes on like some fantastic 'days of yore' anthem. Recalls 'Lets Pretend we're Married' (beat) and 'Lets Go Crazy'.

Great melodies, hooks.

Really like this one and my wife does too. When she first heard the snippet she said, "oooh, it's his good voice again". smile It's a lot of fun and a good opener. Love the whatever skin your in bit but it keeps making me think of The Timewarp. I keep expecting him to burst into, "let's do the timewarp again".

My Wife said exactly the same thing about his voice.

My 4 year old danced like a maniac. Clearly, it covers all the bases. lol

Ya know what? I heard it so many times it don't even recall a Prince song anymore. It's definitely Rocky Horror-esque (and "Everybody Loves Me" is Hey Ya-esque). lol

Yeah, as many have noted, it's like Play in the Sunshine and Delirious pretended they were married...

A lively opener for sure, and does have an undeniably Princey feel to it.

One of my least fave on the album and will probably get the 'skip' button many times in the near and foreseeable future. But for what it is... it can be catchy.

this is all i've got. a few lines are incredibly hard to make out:

compassion

As zero point approaches and the fields around you drop

thoughts become reality and it feels like time has stopped

when all that's on the radio is electromagnetic pop

[steady your teeth are gnashin']

compassion

get it on

compassion

right on

when love for the greater number freezes over and cools

everyone around you acts like a bloody fool

no sanctity to the left of you no righteousness to the right

the only thing that's left in fashion

compassion

get it on

compassion

whatever skin you're in, we all need to be friends

all happy again, it's so much better than nothing

everybody can win, with a little faith in man

beginning of an end and start up a brand new something

when ego, fear and judgement become the rule of law

watch the polar ice caps heat up, melt down and thaw

when the greedy one forgets that he's the reason for it all

[the only goal/gold that's [..] in passion]

compassion

get it on

compassion

right on

when [….....] no love can be found

nature will rise against nature and get down

whatever skin you're in, we all need to be friends

all happy again, it's so much better than nothing

everybody can win, with a little faith in man

beginning of an end and start up a brand new something

if you got compassion

let's get back in fashion

the new international anthem

whatever skin you're in, we all need to be friends

all happy again, it's so much better than nothing

everybody can win, with a little faith in man

beginning of an end and start up a brand new something

(repeat)

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Nothing like the production on 'Graffiti Bridge.' 'Compassion' would stick out like a sore thumb.

The entire album has superior production and melodies that 'Graffiti Bridge' (perhaps bar 'The Question of U', 'Joy in Repetition').

This doesn't resemble 1990's Prince. The entire sound and style recalls '82-'83.

The sound recalls "The Time Warp". The only Prince recollection is the da-da-da synths from the early '80s but that's about it. lol
