P might've paid his respect to the Jackson family in private . Imo, he owns nothing to the public to prove that.

"more than likely Prince just being an ass."
You have no basis for making that statement concerning MJ. We have no record of Prince saying anything bad about Mike on the public record. If he wanted to dis him he could have he did not.
Shit he never said anything bad about Rick James and he was always ragging on P in the media so why would he have a beef with Mike.

I would imagine he might've done. Katherine Jackson is one of the flock after all.

There's four examples of Prince being an ass when it comes to MJ just for starters.
Not to mention dissing the Jacksons on the SOTT tour rehearsals, Laura, with all due respect, i know my stuff being a fan of both.

Why did it take them so long to print this if it's true? How did they conduct this interview? With a oiuja board?

I seem 2 remember P saying "RIP Rick James" during his muciology tour (remember he was on tour when Rick passed), I believe he was in Houston at the time, and after saying that he played a few notes of a Rick James cut. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

and you notice he doesn't say that P is seen as a master musician (which is surely talked about more than his songwriting), as the gulf there would be even wider.

Aww it is true, I think its because MJ is great in everything (by far the best dancer) so is Prince, they both I think had mutual respect for eachother.
It says on wikipedia (i know is often not reliable) MITM was written by
No worries MJ , you where talented without measure nonetheless and people (with brain cells lol) will see that. Love u always! x

Some of you guys really need to get off of this "Prince hasn't shown MJ any respect in death" bit. He HAS! What does he need to do for some of you? Get on TV and cry, release a "statement," dedicate an album to him? Goodness. He played MJ's music after he died, and when I was at the PP show in October, he stated many of his influences. One of the last ones he stated was the Jacksons and said if it wasn't for those people who came before him, he would not be here. He then went on to play some Jackson's tunes. He has played MJ on various occaisons. If he did not respect him, would he take the time to learn and play his music? People have pitted these two against eachother since the 1980s, yet Prince plays the music of his so-called rival. If that is not a PUBLIC show of respect, I do not know what is.
Some of you act like P is hatin' on MJ, and he is not. Just because he has not expressed himself in the way you might want him to doesn't mean he hasn't. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see - or as deaf as those who refuse to listen. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I believe the past silliness on record was put into perspective for Prince when Mike left. I know he covered him in Paris i have the SAB boot, didn't know about Paisley, so thanks for the info.

When I started typing, the second to last post was Spinlight's. I had to stop and do something, then returned to finish my post, but didn't refresh to see if there were any updates in the thread, lol.
It's great though, 'cause at least people can see that several of us do indeed recognize Michael Jackson as a legitimate composer. It just unfortunately isn't a widely known fact like it is with Prince. Plus, that word "songwriter" was always a dominant part of Prince's PR machine. "Prince composed, wrote and produced every single song on his album...." Whereas Michael's main descriptions in the press were usually "singer and dancer," then just "entertainer," and his popular co-producers were always mentioned in reports about MJ's albums, which overshadowed Michael's songwriting prowess, no matter how much Michael used to speak about how he would write/compose his music. There was little focus on the fact he created songs on each of his adult solo records, and I think that's only because he didn't play instruments onstage. Not fair. Well Michael was to blame to some extent for being whimsical in interviews and not controlling the discussion. He rarely talked about the creative process. Hardcore fans know from relatively obscure sources though. It doesn't bother me that much. I don't care what non-fans think about Mike. [Edited 7/2/10 15:56pm]

That's funny because Rick James loathed Prince. AND Rick demonstrated his disdain publicly, lol. He was NOT kind and complimentary when speaking about Prince like MJ was. Did Prince say that and perform Rick's song in a derisive manner, or was he sincere? If the latter, then that's shocking. More shocking than him not speaking about James Brown's death.

BECAUSE THE DUDE DIED, no matter what he felt about rick or vice versa no matter what was said theres respecting someone personally, or respecting someones music or both. Why can't some people see sincerity or are paranoid when they need not be lol. He obviously played a few notes of the song to the guy that allowed him to open his show starting out even if it was benefiting both sides. No matter what happened during or afterwards; Prince is actually a goodhearted person and Rick James was to, thats a "guess" is an opinion im sticking to.

I'd say that "Life Of The Party" is the only one that can be argued as being remotely pointed @ jacko. The others are simply plays on his own name. Prince/King. "The Good Life" takes a stab @ Tito (if you can call it a stab), not Michael.

Not that this was any sort of detailed credit to MJ, articulated by P, but during an interview with Le Monde in Paris, October 2009, Prince said this regarding MJ's passing:
"It is always sad to lose someone you loved."
The quote here stems from Sabotage's 24-page booklet included with their 6CD "The Complete 2009 Paris Recordings" (#374-379). It's on p. 15.

Beatboxing an outline of what you want a musician to lay down is not the same as writing music or playing it yourself.

"For those who know the number and don't call...Fuck all y'all"

It's not the same, but it was his method of composing music. MJ was more than just a lyricist. The musical ideas and structure in his songs were his own creation, and that's the point.
Certain Prince fans need 2 give credit where it's due.

I don't really know about all of that. Michael was a Genius in his own right. Prince is one in his own right. And although Prince is in fact an instrumentalist, Michael had amazing delivery and style, and above all else, he knew exactly what songs to sing to mesmorize the audience.
Michael Jackson also did not alienate or isolate an audience due to x-rated / adult content in a vast majority of his old hits like Prince did.
Both are EQUAL in my book, even though they do things a little differently. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?
