No cancellation. This just has to do with the 'Courier' release date being the 8th, and the rest of Europe the 10th. As Prince has agreed exclusivity with European pubs with outlets that also stock 'Courier', it has had to be pushed to the 10th.

Makes sense because it's going to be online within minutes on the 10th as it is.

To clarify things a little more about Schkopi and Courrier International as i've been involved into the making of this launch party on the 7th - we had a deal with Courrier International to organize the event so we were 100% official, we were planning to make the mag + CD available starting at midnight during the party (thus we would respect the official date of july 8th for the release).

So it is NOT because of the party that the french release have been cancelled, but only because Courrier International is also available in Belgium, and the belgium newspaper has an exclusivity over it on july 10th

There we are. It is official.

And how people could blame an endorsed release party, and its organisers is beyond me.

This place is like a world all its own.

It is like a new Surrealists movement, except none of the participants know about it.

No one did, it was just a rumour like all the others on here, everyone was waiting to find out what would happen with France, we all knew it did not affect UK etc...

The release party is it still going ahead ?

Point taken, but at least agree this is all very sad.

Doing it once ( Planet Earth) might be seen as original....twice is just desperation.

doing it twice means it worked.

There's a few fams on this forum eatin' their words now!!!!smile

This is all just getting boring.

Maybe, at last, someone told him that the album was crap and he needed to get back into the studio????

Whatever the US gets will be as good or better. Dont worry.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Whether it be better packaging, bonus stuff, a dvd (!)...I know wishfull thinking. At least better packaging. smile And for the record, I'm really looking forward to this release. One bright spot in todays music state is that are access to new albums is very fast. No waiting months like the old days.

Planet Earth was released in the US in a lenticular digipak. It wasn't much better than just a sleeve, but it was at least a case.

He'll either do the same deal here with a US magazine, or actually put a CD in music stores. I'm not worried.

Have you heard the new album yet, or are you just blindly judging the magazine/newspaper distribution method?

The distribution method itself is actually a pretty good idea - get your music out there, and get butts in seats the next time you're in town (which is where the real money is made). The problem with Planet Earth was the album wasn't good (widely considered a "flop" musically). Even most die-hard Prince fans aren't crazy about it.

If this new album is good, it could mean more media album deals in the future.

Nah.

The Scots get it with their Daily Record on Saturday, as the rest of the UK get it with the Daily Mirror....which is strange, as Scotland also has their own, different version of the Daily Mirror. So I guess Scotland will get it twice.

Which would be a first.

I really do believe this newspapaer method was interesting once but is suspect twice.

He's just in it for the money as he knows that any album he might release the "classic" way would sell about 10 copies.

I really would prefer to see people purchasing the album because it's good...not because it's free with some crappy tabloid ( Daily Mirror).

I will eat my words if the album is great but, as with most of us here, I've given up a bit on that one....sad

There are way too many stickies in Music and More for 20Ten. It is a disorganized jumbled mess and people are posting so many dupe threads because there are too many stickies to look in to see if a post has been made.

I suggest that someone consolidate the threads into one, two, or three 20TEN threads covering various topics, such as one for the release methods( all of them in one thread ) , one for magazine covers/interviews, and one for reviews of the album.

As it currently stands, it is sloppy and poorly thought out.

Thats the problem you got right there : " I really would prefer to see people purchasing the album because it's good...not because it's free with some crappy tabloid ( Daily Mirror).
"...

... How you as a person perfer others to do, because you like it in one particular way is up to you. I also like hard copies bought for a wrecastore... hehe. But to make claims that he does it only for the money aka, sellout..... then it gets stupid. Free CD, only the cost of a newspaper is fantastic. Anyone can afford the paper, and the money dosn`t get stuck in a third partys pockets.

If you even once heard about the "fight" Prince had over mastertapes and right to own your own music, then you perhaps can see the other side of this, and perhaps wonder how hi Prince laughs in the curtains, looking at the big companies sitting there with their beard in the mailbox.

This might trigger a wave of new tinking for artists, and the only way WB and the others can get back up, is to give the artists more freedom and rights to get them back.

It will be interesting, and Prince - Record industry in battle of distribution: 3 - 0. (lotus flower in Target US counts, so 3 albums)

Others, stop whining like babies, and atleast wait til the music is out. Only God all mighty knows whats gonna happen, hehe.

that really silly because we all know as adults in the western world nothing is Free!

Let's not be silly, this deal is good for Prince and good for the Mirror and really good for his Fans who only need to pay 65p for a bit of art

Art you may not like but it's art all the same....

Note: Prince in the 80's have got 65cents per single sold ... so let's not look down on this offer too much

That goes to what I was saying before -- perhaps the newspaper/Planet Earth arrangement was "this" close to being perfect, with the only thing lacking being the music itself. People equated "free" with "crap", and - with Planet Earth - were correct.

Maybe Prince is giving it another shot, this time putting forth better material that will negate the "free/crap" argument. Just speculating.

Don't forget that Radiohead gave away their last album, and not even a real CD or even lossless (they were MP3s). It brought them a lot of publicity. NIN gave away their last album too.

totally agree on it. Its like do i really have to read 8 threads to find out the same things? I mean i know everyone is interested and confused because....its Prince and he has made a career of being just that...interesting and confusing, thats how u get them back, but i think its like on the Non Prince part of the site and its 19 threads on MJ and JJ and then Lady GaGa, and enless threads on how much people dislike Alicia Keys on the org.
