You complain about Prince complaining about WB yet you spend a considerable amount of your time complaining about Prince.

So? What has got one thing to do with another?

All I hear from fams is "Prince is so happy" etc, and then you read an interview with him and it's bitch bitch bitch about ancient topics that he's lying about.

He's had 15 years -- what is the new paradigm he came up with? NOTHING. Whine whine "radio won't play me" -- well ghee, genius, YOU aren't playing your own music, but you expect others to do it?

Secondly, it was obvious his focus in the conversation with the Ebony interviewer was about black musicians/artists in particular, who he apparently feels that some are often or have been screwed over by the music industry.

ALL INDUSTRIES SCREW PEOPLE OVER. Being black has got ZILCH to do with it.

It's no surprise that since the WB situation, that he has attempted to make other artists aware of educating themselves about the industry before signing on the dotted line..

Bullcrap. He was mistreating artists in far worse ways than WB was doign to him. In fact, WB were still kissing his ass. He handed them two sub-par albums as a parting gift while owing them three and they accepted them. He wanted input on "Ultimate" and he got it. Now go ask Margie Cox what Prince did to her.

It seems he's learned his lessons about the music industry and ownership along the way, and just trying to reach out to other artists about it.

Nonsense.

Poor interview. They let him get away without really answering questions. More about what they see than what happened in 12 hours (or those were a boring 12 hours).

Only thing I found interesting is that while he is a JW, he is does still question. I think he is pushing the envelope to see how far he can go without going over the edge. I can totally relate to that.

Other than that, nice photos...and a bad interviewer.

Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Really? What about Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Iced-T, 50 cent, Ludacris, Dr. Dre and others who started off "hard" and had a large, dedicated black fan base, at the beginning of their careers, but have crossed over , so-to-speak and have been collaborating with non-blacks, later in their careers. Are they sellouts too? Do they get a pass or is that limited to a few artists? lol

He's been on stage with darker-skinned black female singers, for the longest, calls them out and gives them props during the performances, and has promoted a darker-skinned female singer. What's the crime? I think you're reading too much into the "Black Sweat" video and looking for reasons to find something to complain about. So how much of his blood does he have to draw for some black fans in order to be accepted as one of their own? popcorn

When he was promoting Tamar, a darker-skinned sista, did you see the vile and hate spewed from many of his non-black fans, because he was promoting a darker-skinned, female singer? Did you see the posts on here from Prince fans, mostly female, non-black fans, on other unofficial sites, stating "She is not his type" or "Why would he promote her?" or worse yet, degrading her looks, because of who she was, not to mention, unnecessary racial comment, and disgusting and hateful remarks about her, that came from the mouths of some so-called fans. You'd thought Prince had committed the most heinous crime promoting a darker-skinned female singer. You can google it, it's all there. So you tell me, how can he win, when so many seem to wish he would lose?

Then you have some non-black fans that have a fit when he plays r&b, and less rock. Then when he makes a song to raise awareness or express his feelings about a social or political situation, some fans whine "Just play the music and leave the socio/political lyrics out of it" or accuse him of having some conspiracy theory. It's one thing to comment on a track, cd, but some comments do go way overboard sometimes and into unnecessary territory.

I am beginning to think some fans believe Prince wakes up and wait for their instructions and permission on how he should begin his day, what he should believe in, who he should be, and what music to play to their satisfaction. lol He makes a comment on how black artists are treated by the music industry labels, in the past and present day, and I had a feeling some fans were not going to take his statements too lightly, and the fact that he granted "Ebony" magazine an interview.

[Edited 6/12/10 20:03pm]

Prince was born Black and he's going to die Black. No matter how hard he tries to avoid the sun or a Black girlfriend. I never called him a sell out. Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, etc live in the real world and speak in the same voice as always. How many voices does Prince use? I think Prince lives in his own weird world. I hope he is happy but he seems bored and in trouble to me.

lol Oh lawd, somebody call the "bored" police because someone is concerned about how "bored" and in "trouble" Prince might be in his life.

You make the point that he was born black and will die black and you know this, so why are so worried and concerned about how black he "acts" or "is" before he dies, according to your requirements of what it is to be black? Makes no sense. You come across as one who seems blacks should get permission before daring to cross the "black" line and get some kudos from the brothas before doing so or they're condemned. I hope you spend that much energy worried about how "bored and in trouble" some of the young, black males giving each other "props and pounds" are, then turn around and shoot each other in the back, than worried about how bored Prince is or how much trouble he's in. So much for "black love and unity".... right? Right on bro! fro

According to you, Prince doesn't get the "black pass" from the black community until he steps out on stage and announce to the world "Hey I'm dating a woman of a darker hue" Did you become a fan based on that or was it about the music? lol Did you feel the same way about Jimi Hendrix? How about Chuck Berry?

Maybe Ebony should have just stepped aside and not bother asking Prince for an interview, then some black fans who have posted on this site and complained that Prince doesn't give enough black radio or other-related outlets interviews, will just continue complaining that he doesn't, because even when he does, they'll find some other reason to complain about him, while some non-black

fans get pissed because he granted a black publication an interview.

According to some of Prince fans here, until Prince does exactly what all his fans want him to do, they will never be satisfied. Good luck with that. lol

Prince can liken himself to Ike Turner all he wants. Ike Turner was, amongst many things, a talented man whose troubles surmounted his creativity and his business savvy - thus ruining not only his music career, but his marriages. Do we, as fans with a bit of insight into Prince, consider him of the same troubled calibre? Maybe. He's spiritually conflicted, to say the least, but whether or not his spiritual eccentricities owe to his malformed vision of slavery and CONtracts is - i guess - interpreted by the reader. Thus, some people will excuse him for his outlandish claims and take them as gospel because... Why? He's black and has been repeatedly shunned from the music industry either by the companies themselves or the music buying public (who just doesn't want his current music)?

Prince was given multiple opportunities to rule the music industry with an iron fist and every single time he was given this opportunity, he squandered it in greed, naivete, and professional onanism. He could not bear the burden of really contributing to artists under his control because his ego and his deranged sense of entitlement is extremely off-putting. Humility is something decades-lost on Prince. It is because of this arrogance that has many people have succumbed to the Bizarro World Midas Touch (aka, when he touches their career, it dies). It is also because of this that he has suffered so much in the music industry.

Exec after exec has come forward, producers, engineers, agents, bandmembers, dancers, and other people attached to his entourage at one time or another have all said the same thing. Prince is a genius when it comes to crafting songs, but he is willfully negligent when it comes to his own career and the interests of those he employs, much less his posterity or his dreadfully loyal fanbase.

Stop giving him excuses to rely on. His assertion that Yes Men are toxic is laughable at best. In fact, he has surrounded himself with nothing but Yes Men for the better part of 20 years now and it has slowly eroded his legacy. He will, eventually (if not already) dissipate into the annals of rock history as a genius-gone-wrong who had the world in his hands for a good 10 years and proceeded to pluck the petals away one by one until there was nothing left but his own distorted kingdom of sand.

You can praise him for his humble status at the moment all you want. He isn't humble, though. His spirituality is vanity. His studies of history and henceforth his retelling of it is ironic and hollow. For someone who recites black history like a copy editor at News of the World, he certainly raked in the cash hand over fist while those White Men Who Enslaved Him bent over backwards to accommodate his greedy demands and outlandish threats.

All the while, in his house he lays dreaming of being a paragon of black enterprise as his back catalog rots in antiquity. A fresh, rejuvenated SOTT? Never. A deluxe edition of LoveSexy? Not on his watch. Without his superfluous and insipid remixes and remakes of his torch songs, Prince will have nothing to do with those albums... That is, unless he can entice you to go to his concerts (which become more and more vaudeville as the years go by), by saying this is the last time he will perform them. Or he will hum, plink on the piano, or strum a few bars of a song that is entirely incongruous with his current "religion" just so the hair on your arms stand up in anticipation before chugging into a full version of "Pass the Peas" or "The Christ".... Barf.

Thanks for the interview with Ebony, P. No, really. We needed another dissertation on black poverty and how black people are/were/will be/can be/should be/would be from the mouth of someone who can give away a half assed album for free with a newspaper and still make 2 million dollars while the US government forecloses on the houses of artists like T-Boz (you know, your favorite band, right?) and others.

Physician, heal thyself.

Dayyum! I can't say I agree completely with everything you wrote, but it needs to be heard! The emboldened part was especially piercing. P, if you really don't care for 'yes' men, check out this post.

Order in the court...order I say! hammer

Apparently Princey is now on trial in the org kangaroo court for his brotha-man pass, but this trial must be conducted fairly. lol

Onthereal can be counsel for the prosecution and 2elijah can represent the defense.

We must also have witnesses...

Prosecution witnesses;

Spinlight

Alamine

Old Bart will be declared a "hostile" witness. lol

Defense witnesses;

We will need a bailiff to keep order...I will appoint squirrelgrease because of his good work on the other Ebony thread.

Hatrina shall be our court reporter because she does her homework.

Having heard the evidence, the jury will determine if Princey will retain his status as a "down brotha". A juror can be disqualified for...

name calling

speaking in princeybonics

cosmic talk which cannot be understood by others, lol

Naturally, I will be the judge because I am fair and impartial, biggrin

NEWSFLASH for orgers "onthereal" and "Alamine". You see you have to do your homework first before you rob someone of their "black pass" and spew BS about them you can't prove as fact:

Now this was back in "1986" yet the two of you claim for 20 years Prince had some trumped up self-hatred for himself and towards the black community. Yeah sure. If someone has self-hatred for their own people they turn their back on them completely and all the societal concerns that comes with that package. I guess we know what kind of crow some folks will be eating for dinner tonight.. steamed or fried? lol

Prince quietly rescues inner city maverick school

January 25, 1986

Westside Preparatory School occupies a modest one-story brick building along the scruffy industrial corridor of W. Chicago Av. on the predominantly black West Side. Its narrow hallway and five crowded classrooms scarcely seem adequate to contain the 200 students who pack the building every school day.

Yet the 10-year-old school has achieved a national reputation far brighter than its modest facilities suggest. Westside Prep has made college-bound scholars out of hundreds of ghetto children rejected as problem kids by public schools. And since October it's served double duty as a training ground for scores of teachers interested in adapting the school's methods to their own classrooms.

The school's success flows from the teamwork of two unlikely partners. Westside Prep owes its spirit to its energetic founder, Marva Collins. And it owes its longevity to Minneapolis' reclusive rock star, Prince, who has quietly given the school endowments of more than half a million dollars over the past two years.

The money came unexpectedly, and at a time when the school was on the verge of financial collapse, Collins said. Without Prince's support, "There probably wouldn't be a Westside Prep school," she confessed. "We would have had to close."

Again, in the early 90s, Prince donates, along with other black celebrities to help Spike Lee finish the "Malcolm X" movie when Warner Bros gave Lee a hard time about increasing the budget for the movie. Warners only decided to increase the budget, because of the financial support from some celebrities to Spike Lee. I remember Spike talking the same BS about Prince some orgers here try to pulll, but look how Spike went crawling Prince for financial support and had no problem getting it? Need I say more? lol

"Now Lee had no more money and only was two-thirds finished. He donated two million of his salary to finance the movie but that was not enough. After delaying for two weeks, Lee finally sucked up his pride and begin to make some phone calls. He first called Bill Cosby. Cosby must have heard about his misfortune because the first words out of his mouth were "How much do you need?" Others donated as well. Oprah Winfrey, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Janet Jackson, Prince and anyone else who had the extra capital pitched in to help Lee finish his movie. No one wanted a piece of the profits or had an influence on the finished picture. They all believed this was a movie that needed to be made and that Lee was the man to do it. After hearing this outpour of support, Warners changed their stance and cleared the budget. Lee thanks all who helped in the final credits."

It's not about me being satisfied with him. I'm only posting my opinion of him over the years and the Ebony interview. He doesn't need permission to be who he is. I hope he knows who he is. Do you ever wonder what he's trying to hide and why he's so mysterious? He seems to enjoy playing the guessing game and messing with people's heads. What's with all the secrets and silly riddles. It's makes him difficult to understand. I'm not worried about him getting his "black pass" but he's talking like he wants a pass. Prince is a gifted artist. He's a Black man with issues and it would surprise me to see him holding hands with a sister. I doubt I'll ever see him with one from what I've seen and heard about the guy. It's his right. So much for "black love and unity"? I still have love for the brother. Prince is international, parties with the Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent, and the other celebs he loves to name drop and I'm out here in the trenches with the young, Black, males shooting each other. What's his gripe? You seem like you know him well. I hope one day he comes to my neighborhood and knocks on my door. Maybe he'll get the answers he's searching for.

Apparently Princey is now on trial in the org kangaroo court for his brotha-man pass, but this trial must be conducted fairly. lol

Onthereal can be counsel for the prosecution and 2elijah can represent the defense.

We must also have witnesses...

Prosecution witnesses;

Spinlight

Alamine

Old Bart will be declared a "hostile" witness. lol

Defense witnesses;

4bj

nosajd

Threadbare

We will need a bailiff to keep order...I will appoint squirrelgrease because of his good work on the other Ebony thread.

*Hatrina shall be our court reporter because she does her homework.*

Just kidding people...carry on, typing

Need I say more? lol

Malcolm X (1992)

West Palm Beach Epic Movie Examiner - Mark Shame

Good luck with that. lol

[Edited 6/13/10 9:11am]

It's not about me being satisfied with him. I'm only posting my opinion of him over the years and the Ebony interview. He doesn't need permission to be who he is. I hope he knows who he is.

(Edited)

Well, maybe if you went to one of the Tamar shows back in 2006 you would have seen him holding hands with a "sista" on stage, when he introduced her to the audience as his "baby sis" and a new singer starting out. It was his way of promoting a new singer and introducing her to the NYC crowd. Don't take it out of context, it was not something romantic, it was just an established artists introducing a new singer to the NYC crowd. Now according to your views, why would he have to hold hands with a "sista" to prove how black he is to get a pass from the black community? eek That makes no damn sense. lol Also, I don't know the man no more than any other fan. I've been to some of his shows over the years and enjoyed every show I attended . I've purchased a pretty good amount of his music over the years, and picked and chose, just like any other fan, which tracks I like or don't like, but no I don't "wonder" what he's trying to "hide" or how "mysterious" he appears to be to some fans. Why would I? I don't concern myself with a musician's personal life or wonder how many women and wives he had, that's none of my business, and not the reason I became a fan. I do however, find that some fans take it way overboard at times, with musicians/artist they favor though. lol

I wonder if Prince read this, see Dre was probably smoking about 10 bags of weed when he made this agreement, so now he wants to blame the label 2. LOL

Rapper Dr. Dre loses claims against former label

source

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Rapper Dr. Dre has been feuding with Death Row Records since his former record label was bought out of bankruptcy last year. The new entity, WIDEawake Death Row Records, put out a new version of his iconic album "The Chronic," as well as a greatest hits collection, without his permission.

Dr. Dre -- real name Andre Young -- sued in February.

On Monday, a California district court tossed his claims that Death Row's release of "The Chronic Re-Lit" violated his rights of trademark and publicity. However, the judge allowed another claim -- that he hasn't been paid royalties since splitting from Death Row in 1996 -- to be heard.

Dr. Dre argued that Death Row suggested he endorsed the new albums, particularly in the way it placed his name and likeness on the cover. Death Row countered that it didn't substantially modify the substance of "The Chronic" in any way other than giving it sonic clarity and a slightly louder volume.

The nature of this dispute is informed by the casual way that Dr. Dre created "The Chronic" in the early 1990s. When he formed Death Row Records in 1991, he orally granted the label a non-exclusive license to release sound recordings. The following year, he made another oral agreement to the same effect over "The Chronic" in exchange for an 18 percent royalty rate.

Then, in 1996, he left Death Row, disclaiming his ownership interest in both the company and the sound recordings in exchange for both the previous-agreed-upon royalty rate and a promise not to distribute any of his songs except "in the manners heretofore distributed."

In analyzing the case, California District Court Judge Christina Snyder applied the so-called "Monty Python" rule, after a 1976 case where a defendant extensively edited the TV comedy series in order to broadcast it on television. The question was whether the changes to Dr. Dre's album were more than "cosmetic."

Snyder ruled the alterations were "minor and inconsequential." She also pointed out that the image used on the cover jacket is the same photograph from the original album, instead of a more current photo, which may have gone further to imply some new endorsement.

Dr. Dre will have to settle for going after the new iteration of Death Row on the money he alleges is owed to him

In a debate like this, I don't see how he's really defensible anyway. There's too many witnesses for the prosecution. lol

That wasn't just the point though. The point was that although Spike didn't feel Prince was "black enough" according to his observation, and complained about Prince not having women of a darker hue in his videos, Spike then turned around and married the same type of woman of a hue, he complained that Prince surrounded himself with in videos, and then Spike went crawling to the "not black enough black person" he complained about, to ask for money to finance his film..

Thing is, how does Spike point fingers at a person and accuse them of doing something, then he turns around and does the same thing? lol It seems Spike's s foot went down his own mouth with that complaint... lol Just sayin'.

When he was divorced again he seemed like everyone else. He wants to tell us the world according to Prince? Fine. Tell the truth without speaking in riddles. God is personal. If Prince doesn't want to get personal don't tell me what I should call God, just shut up, play your guitar, and sing me a song.

Whoa, slow down your imagination, because you just took my post out of context. I went back and edited that post, so that individuals such as yourself, won't find a reason to take what I said about Prince holding hands with Tamar at the NYC Nokia 2006 show out of context, and mistaken that for something romantic. He poliltely brought her back on stage, just like any other, established artist introducing a new artist they are promoting to the crowd would do, and he introduced her as a new singer starting out, nothing more or less, so don't twist my post to mean something else you're looking for. There was nothing romantic about that, and you need to stop letting your imagination run wild. lol Did you not say in your previous post:

Prince is a gifted artist. He's a Black man with issues and it would surprise me to see him holding hands with a sister.

Okay, that's what you stated. My point in mentioning Tamar, was to show you that he has performed and performs on stage with female singers of a darker hue. Has introduced them to the audience they perform for, no crime in that. I think it is sad that in your opinion, one has to "prove" how black they are, by how many hands they hold of persons of a darker hue, before they get a "black pass". How twisted and ridiculous. lol Who would of thought Prince having an interview with Ebony, would have caused such an uproar and ridiculous accusations from fans here? Geez.. lol

Well, maybe if you went to one of the Tamar shows back in 2006 you would have seen him holding hands with a "sista",and why would he have to do that anyway to prove "how black he is" to get a pass from the black community? eek That makes no damn sense. lol Also, I don't know the man no more than any other fan. I do however, find that some fans take it way overboard at times, with musicians/artist they favor though. lol

can i asked you a question? i love god but i have balance if you are the one that have copy of the magazine. i'm not a saint and some people know this.. Black women in general Prince dated black women. So thats not it when people find God they want to express it . So when Prince start express he wanted everyone to experience it that all. He can make the same mistakes like us all. I know because i got my full awaking . Which sometimes i can't handle (god like) tenses. So people put you back into place. Loving God yourself is not fanatiic when you don't love youself you only look out for you. I'm not saying you do this but some people will hurt others for sport. I like how he plays his Guitar too. Prince already has a girlfriend Bria and we have to respect it i guess.smile

All kidding aside, your input and a few others have made this thread a lot more interesting than the article IMO, so no worries... cool

Apparently Princey is now on trial in the org kangaroo court for his brotha-man pass, but this trial must be conducted fairly. lol

Onthereal can be counsel for the prosecution and 2elijah can represent the defense.

We must also have witnesses...

Prosecution witnesses;

Spinlight

Old Bart will be declared a "hostile" witness. lol

We will need a bailiff to keep order...I will appoint squirrelgrease because of his good work on the other Ebony thread.

*Hatrina shall be our court reporter because she does her homework.*

Thanks babynoz. On the real, I don't understand godwill's posts? Is it just me? I'm sorry Prince is difficult enough to read.
