I like it.

Sounds sort of like something from Planet Earth.

The thing that strikes me about the song is that the tune is instantly recognizable and rememberable. That's not to say it's innovative, unique, or ground breaking....but Prince has already covered that years and years ago. At least this tune is easy to recognize and pleasant to the ear. At this point, that's all I can ask for from Prince. falloff

It's a good thing I guess that I've heard it only once so far and I have the tune memorized and slightly stuck in my head---I've heard his previous tune (I don't even remember the name) at least a dozen times and couldn't hum it for you.

It definitely fits with Planet Earth tracks like All the Midnights, Guitar, and The One You Wanna C, as well as The Morning After. nod

.

...except all of those songs were better, in terms of production, arrangement, and vocals.

I don't have much 2 say on "Hot Summer".

I think I would like it more if I felt/heard some more energy in the vocals. I don't mind his use of his lower register, but there seems 2 be not enough going on in the vocals... he almosts sounds disinterested.

Other than that, I like the drums, guitar, and keys, both in tone and arrangement.

I honestly don't hear much difference in vocal intensity between this and the Guitar demo.

It did seem like he's quite restrained on the vocals, but I think he was being deliberate with that...almost like 'Cream' vocals off of D&P.

None of ya'll were bitching when "200 Balloons" sounded like "Batdance". Or when "Blue Limousine" was sounding like "17 Days" or "Toy Box". Or when "America" used the same drum pattern as "Baby I'm A Star". Or when "Gamillah" was an instrumental of "The Holy River".

And now you wanna jump on it because it might slightly resemble an earlier demo of "Guitar"? Pffft, bitches please.

The song is a fun song. It's not meant to stop a war. It's just meant to be a damn pop song, and it really good song. It reminds me more of "Cream" and that very straight forward beat with a catchy chorus.

hmmm , the version I have in my possession is 4:16, whereas the other version is 3:32. I wonder where that came from?

I hear that, but I think it would work better if the vocal varied more, or if there were a change that featured a contrasting range or intensity level.

Holy shit this song is bad. I mean, we've heard some very uninspired Prince songs over the past few years, but this is beyond awful.

Who "jump[ed] on it" because it sounds like Guitar? I've probably made the most references to the demo of Guitar - but not in a derogatory way. confuse

I'm saying people are trying to dismiss it based it sort of sounding like another song. I'm just saying it happens. If someone wants to call it poo, then just do so. If they love it and make a fair comparison, that's cool. I like the song. I've been playing it on repeat a bit since I got it.

Yeah.

To me, if he used vocals like on Raspberry Berret it could have been the 'new' RB for this generation--nowhere near as interesting, but with the same poppy summer vibe.

I think it's a good single still. Simply because the tune is easy to remember. Unfortunately, that's essential to radio today. lol

I don't see people bashing this song, nor complaining that it sounds like something else.

I DO WONDER what your 4:16 version sounds like, after the 3:32 mark!

I heard it when they played it again at 12:40ish and I was really to change stations after the first 30 seconds. I want music to be funky like emancipation, the vault, or musicology.

Sounds like a typical Prince pop number:

Catchy, syrupy, and fun and easy to sing along.

What more do you want?

Its far from catchy, it has no quality hook, its sterile shit. If any other artist released this it would be lambasted on here.

Sorry - totally bland and uninteresting.

If "purple and gold" and this tid bit are the new thing in Prince songwriting, we're in deep shit.

It's a solid, fun pop song that really has a catchyness to it! I like it
