O.K. listened to it 5 times now. I see even some of Prince's usual detractors have had a few good things to say about this song. I wish I did too. I think the problem with this as a single stand alone track it is just too simple to get excited about it. It's Prince in autodrive.
If this were part of an album that had some more original developed tunes, MAYBE I could think of it as a fun album track that I wouldn't skip every time I put the album on. MAYBE.
But as a standalone song, this is just utterly forgetable to me.
I'm not 12 years old and Prince is a musical God so I'm not going to say, "It sucks". But for me persionally it's just another one in a long line of tunes that any song writer could come up with in their sleep.
Definitely not feeling it.

actually really enjoying it, it's a fun track & lite throwaway free track. So 1st of all thanks to P for the freebie, compared to Purple and Gold etc it sounds like SOTT!. His vocals do sound very tired on it though?. Hope it's just a demo version. Anyway treat it for what it is

Thanks sis but someone already sent it to me. I'll try to listen again after I run my errand, but I'm supposed to be completing a project instead of fooling around with Prince...shame on me, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Meh. That's about all I get outta this track. I far preferred Cause & Effect, though it had a bit of an identity crisis. This one, however, knows exactly what it is, and that is "mediocre." I will, however, give it a couple more spins and see if my opinion changes... =0P
Brace yourself
The best is yet to come | |

Co-sign.
It has the guitar theme from Guitar, the organ theme from Cream, the vibe and theme from Strollin' (or maybe Sex In The Summer) and the quality and overall feel of The One U Wanna C.
Not very good. Listenable - but just barely. Lightyears ahead of the rest of what's come out of PP since MPLSound and the other one though. Might improve with some more work.
Thanks Prince! And have a happy birthday!

I have to say that I totally agree with your assessment here about his current lyrical style because you've hit the nail right on the head and summed it up perfectly! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

No, I prefer "dog pony", as that other dude suggested.

I like it. It's fun. Think Cream, The 1 U Wanna C and The Morning After.... Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I like it.
Sounds sort of like something from Planet Earth.
The thing that strikes me about the song is that the tune is instantly recognizable and rememberable. That's not to say it's innovative, unique, or ground breaking....but Prince has already covered that years and years ago. At least this tune is easy to recognize and pleasant to the ear. At this point, that's all I can ask for from Prince.
It's a good thing I guess that I've heard it only once so far and I have the tune memorized and slightly stuck in my head---I've heard his previous tune (I don't even remember the name) at least a dozen times and couldn't hum it for you.

Definitely poppy... in my little fantasy world it would get some national radio play!

This is the perfect song for him to perform on another episode of "GMA Summer Concert Series," or some happy show like that. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee
"Water can nourish me, but water can also carry me. Water has magic laws." - JCVD

Plus, his singing is very, very low for his standard on this song. Just wanted to point that out!

It definitely fits with Planet Earth tracks like All the Midnights, Guitar, and The One You Wanna C, as well as The Morning After. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
