Don't you still wish Prince would make another movie? Despite the hatred for Grafitti Bridge and the misguided indifference to Under the Cherry Moon, I have always wanted to see another movie from Prince. Especially since he has grown and become even more brilliant since 1990. What would a Prince movie be like today?
I would settle for Prince doing a role in someone else's movie. I wonder if he gets offers.

I would LOVE to see a new Prince movie and I think he could truly pad his bank account if he decided to take the risk just one more time.Only this time don't hire some crap people to work for him and just have him do it him damn self!Prince could take a video camera around for one day and show us a day in his life and it would be a smash hit!Just hope he cuts out the middle man and does it right!

It would be sweet if he got a guest role as a patient on House M.D. and had the diagnosis relating to his music somehow. It would give the cast an interesting new realm to explore with all of the places Prince could have been and picked up something at or had something happen to him to trigger the illness.

No. He's a horrible actor, and even he's admitted to not being able to direct. He can't write a script well either.

For a musician, Prince was far superior to the likes of Elvis (and other musicians who attempted acting, Madonna included), and though not perfect, he was still able to pull off Purple Rain.
Graffiti Bridge and UTCM, in my opinion, weren't terrible because Prince can't act, but because the audience couldn't relate to or understand the 'plight' of the protagonists in the story. (yes, I think UTCM was terrible, even though parts of it was entertaining). UTCM was a vanity piece, and despite relatively believable chemistry, it was mired in really awkward dialogue and a plot that didn't really build. The audience is left to either adore him just cause he's Prince and they like the little jokes, or the audience is wondering why the spent good money to see the film. The plot isn't believable, the dialogue is silly, and the climax feels rushed and less-than-stellar. It was a bad movie, but had entertaining parts. Graffiti Bridge was an abortion of a movie. The musical performances weren't great, the setting was terrible, the dialogue surpassed the mediocrity of all his previous efforts including the SOTT concert film, and it just sucked ass. What makes it even worse, is that the kid doesn't even really seem to care about losing his club (which is tension in the plot). Prince essentially kills his own plot by presenting a protagonist that doesn't really even care about 'having a popular club'. Shit, even if the protagonist doesn't care, at least there has to be elements in the movie that causes the audience to care, and GB wasn't there. Thus, the problem ain't his acting---It's his writing, his direction, and his muddled vision. I think a true 'sequel' to PR would be excellent. But the storyline would have to be completely different. GB shared too many similar themes and failed to capture any of the success of those themes in PR. Purple Rain was essentially a redemption story. Graffiti Bridge wasn't even that. For a true sequel, perhaps 'the kid' could have experienced all of this success for the last 20 years, and the storyline can deal with the isolation or fear of 'being relevant'. Perhaps show how complicated his relationships with people become. Perhaps even introduce a protege (and ongoing theme in his real life ), and perhaps you could introduce a redemption story or a story that shows how the protege helps him to find his own fire again or his own muse again. Something more nuanced and showing more emotional variation that PR. Something more mature. And of course, it would have to have a great song and dance sequence---Graffiti Bridge lacked any element of that. I'm not opposed to a Prince movie project. However, other than giving a rough sketch of his ideas, I don't think Prince should be involved in the script, direction nor production. Just the acting and what he's a genius at--the music.

I read it in a book that he had attempted to get Warners to buy off on it several times. Either way, he obviously tampered with it if he didn't write it because the dialogue in the movie is so dreadful and it bears the mark of Prince all over it. Shit that works on a 3 minute song but becomes REALLY strange in a movie. I don't recall reading anywhere that he's admitted he can't direct--I mean, he certainly can't direct, but it would very strange to see Prince admit fault at something--he's never done that before.

Yeah, like "Desperate Housewives." That would be hilarious. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Did he really admit that? Yes he did. He said he learned that he can't direct, and that he probably won't do another movie.

How about a film where the only saviour to the heir to the egyptian throne and her 3 chains of gold is Prince, the famous popstar?
Sounds like a plausible plot right? RIGHT? [Edited 5/19/10 11:55am]

I wish he would, but this time play a character other than himself. Meaning something different from a shy stubborn musician. Something totally different than who he really is. I think that would be his chance to show if he really can act or not.

A cameo in a TV series or better yet, a role in a Tarantino movie with Sylvester Stallone would be cool. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I'd love to see Prince in a movie directed by someone else, playing a non-musical character. I'd like to see him perhaps play a lawyer, mental patient or a therapist!I think it would be a treat to see him in another light. [Edited 5/19/10 18:06pm]

As I said above, a movie directed by Tarantino , co-starring Sylvester Stallone and Prince NOT playing himself again would be great. I really think he´s a decent actor if he puts his heart into it. He´s good at imitating people and he´s got a weird sense of humor. I´d love to see him as a psychologist, a killer or maybe even a cop or a doctor. No, I don't. I would however like to see him in a major feature doing a cameo as the snazzy pianist in a jazz club.
That would be fun. | |
