The trailer for it makes more sense than the film. It almost fools you into thinking there's a cohesive story.

To be honest "Joy in repetition" and " A question of U" Are 2 of Prince's best live tracks to stand the test of time and he has frequently played them both to full effect up to most recently.....They are still always as edgy if not reworked to perfection by the man itself! Given these tracks and a few others namely "Elephant's and flowers" perhaps and the title track itself it is perhaps appropriate to re-judge what is a masterpiece! It is always up there in my fave Prince albums on the Lp sleeve artwork alone! Where have all the raspberry women gone?

With that said show your love for this era or at least explain why you hate it! Well said I love your post and agree with it! Prince is brilliant in this film. Funny, natural, sexy... Shut up already, damn.

There are some great songs on the album, but the album was cobbled together using some very good older songs, and it really sounds that way. I listened to the album recently and think it's brilliant, but it already sounded old when it came out.
The movie is the best excuse for diggin out my eyes with biros that Prince has ever given me. It was a fail in every way possible. And although many like the look he had then, for me it was his worst image change. The tour was also pretty dull compared to what had preceeded it.

I just bought the album on vinyl the other day because of my recent love for the album. It took me awhile to realize that this is a dope album. So many good songs on this record. The last part of "We Can Funk" when he start talkin about turnin he candle of is awesome because of all the dope layers of vocals & he's hittin some crazy notes! I feel now that I really listened to this album, its one of my faves. Much love for G. Bridge!! U can cut off all my fins - But 2 your ways I will not bend

I am a more recent fan I guess since I started to really dig him and start looking into him around the release of 3121 but I had already loved his more popular radio songs for years when I was a little kid.I guess I am just partial to his later material. As for the movie I can understand why people didn't like it because it really was out there but I think that is what makes Prince Prince. The man has no fear of failing and won't change just because something he does is not popular at the time and I think in the long run that will make his musical catalogue a really treasure to future generations of fans because there will be a little something for everyone regardless of their musical tastes or backgrounds.

I agree....'Graffiti Bridge' is a terrible movie. The storyline is ridiculous. The Kid and Morris Day (grown men) fighting over control of a nightclub in a foggy city that looks plastic and fake? Even the musical performances aren't that exciting, except for "Elephants and Flowers".Some of the 'serious' scenes are unintentionally hilarious. The movie is really just a collection of mediocre music videos, strung together by a weak plot and silly dialogue.

Tick Tick Bang was supposed to be serious but it was just too damn funny but like the movie Street Fighter I think it was supposed to be less real and more cheesy fun. I think that PR has even less of a plot.I know I am inviting the flames for hating on that movie so much but I just can't like it no matter how much I try! I don't think the dialogue matters at all.Its kind of like the movie Interstella 5555 where although there are no actual lines of dialogue it still conveys the creators message.

The other songs aren't terrible, just not very exciting even 'still would stand all time" ? i think it's a perfect example of what Prince could do if he decided to release an all-gospel a'bum

first of all i gotta commend you for stating your opionion knowing that most ppl here would disagree with you lol. My opinion is i didn't like the movie for the most part, it was cheesy, however the soundtrack was GREAT! Purple rains soundtrack was great as well but it got played to DEATH. I honestly think that UTCM was the best movie and purple rain and sott were pretty much equal. But we all like what we like, and just throwing this out there, the song purple rain has to be one of my least favorite prince songs. I PAY THE RENT IN THIS RAGGEDY MUTHA....

I am shocked that I found someone who agrees with me.Im not saying that the PR soundtrack wasn't great but it just wasn't as good as the one for GB but that is a good thing because as a fan I want Prince to grow as an artist and have an album with more great tunes on it than any that he had released in the past.

I bought Graffiti Bridge on vinyl at the time of release and it will always be a special album as the thieves vid was shown b4 the first prince gig i saw on the nude '90 tour and not long after i had bought my first record player! "Still will stand all time" demonstrates the gospel influenced aspects of the record and "We can funk" is so hard edged funk and a song to cherish with the prince/clinton duet everyone was waiting for! I think it was always going to be difficult as there were lots of reference to purple rain in the film but it stands alone as a unique film on it's own merits mainly due to the music and the clever use of the various contributors! It has many of my all-time favorite Prince songs: New Power Generation, Joy in Repetition, Thieves in the Temple, We Can Funk, The Question of U, and Still Would Stand All Time. And most of the other songs are decent--only the title track and Shake don't cut it for me.
If you take Lovesexy and Graffiti Bridge and play mix and match, you get aural heaven. Lovesexy is unlistenable for me.Out of everything Prince has ever done I can honestly say that I HATE that album with a passion.I really tried to love it too or at least find it palatable but even after a few years I still don't dig lovesexy and it seems like such a sin too since pretty much everyone has it on their favorites list. Okay, you totally lost me now. But I agree, most of the tracks on GB are great.

I just listened to the official Graffiti Bridge album and then the original versions of the songs.
For me, the original and alternate versions sound nice and raw, less polished, effortless. A lot of you will have these versions, if not, grab them if you can.
