Prince and other music celebrities

I've started this thread cuz I want to know what other music celebrities think of Prince. I believe this thread will be interesting/funny/controversial lol cool . Oh, and it doesn't matter if the celebrities are haters or fans, or if they are pre-Prince or post-Prince

As far as I know/remember:

Boy George: he said that Prince was "the gayest heterosexual guy I've ever seen" or something like that

David Bowie: he said during the early-00s (I could be wrong) that "Prince owned the 80s"

Bob Dylan: he said that Purple Rain (the song) was probably the best song of the 80s, if I'm not mistaken

Keith Richards: he said at some point during the late-80s that he was overrated, or something like that.

Mick Jagger: he was a fan during the early-80s (at least) and he wanted him to tour with the Stones as the opening act for the Tattoo You tour (1981)

Madonna: she said that Prince was "boring company anyway"

Cool thread biggrin

Eric Clapton said there's no middle ground, you either love him or hate him (he loves him)

Terence Trent d'arby said he inspired him to be himself and not be afraid or something like that

Alicia Keys said all this fake ass kissing crap at his rnr hall of fame induction

Beyonce said she was really honoured when he asked her to duet with him at the grammy awards or something like that

Slash said he admired his guitar playing but said prince blanked him at an awards ceremony & that "he looked like a fag that night anyway" lol

& they're the only ones i can think of right now!

Based on "A Musical Portrait" video that was available via NPGMC:

Little Richard (paraphrasing): "hold a little back. A little bit of something is better than a whole lotta nothing."

This quote from the mid-to-late 80s really hit home with me. Who could imagine such a thing THEN - but now it makes perfect sense.

I think I had never read that, but I find it funny that the bastard takes his time to say others are overrated instead of trying to learn to play the guitar.

One of my favorite quotes about Prince comes from Miles Davis. I remember him saying something to the effect of "he [Prince] hears drums when he makes love to a woman." In his autobiography, Miles also called Prince a modern-day Duke Ellington and talked about how he did so many things so well.

Of course, Trent Reznor said that Prince boasts about all the great material in his vault and that he needs to release it because his latest albums are junk.

Am I mistaken or did Michael Jackson say something like, "He looks mean"??

Prince is a reincarnation of all the best in music. Just what the world needs...a very controversial figure but also an absolute musical genius. Eric Clapton

Prince doesn't sell records like Def Leppard, but it's a lucky break that he's around. They should notice him a little more, but he puts people off by his persona, he's so remote and doesn't appear to be a friendly fellow. He always appears to be so serious, but his stuff has great humor in it. You can tell that he can't be a bad guy. Randy Newman (Prince : a musical portrait)

He's got this space, you know, he uses space real good. But he's changing. Every time I hear him it's a little, little bit more. You know, a little bit more... Miles Davis (Prince : a musical portrait)

I think Prince needs to hold back a little bit and put out less product. We would appreciate his gift more. Because God has blessed him with so much he should give us a little at a time. A little bit of something beats a whole lot of nothing. Little Richard (Prince : a musical portrait)

Do you listen to your own records ?

Nope, only when making things like this. (a greatest hits records). I hear Prince only listen to his own stuff. What a beautiful story. It'sperfect ! I hope it's true. David Byrne

You're right ! Miles said that Prince does hear drums when he makes love to a woman not Debussy, and that's why he is a black man. If someone has the exact quote it would be cool because in my memory, miles sais this to answer a comparism between Prince and MJ...

Just to make sure I understand your post, are you saying that Keith Richards needs to learn how to play guitar because he currently doesn't know how to?
