Alison Goldfrapp recent quote on Prince - see it's not just us! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/l...543467.stm
Do you have those expectations about any of your favourite artists or bands? Alison: I stopped listening to Prince because I thought, "Oh God, no. I just want it to be like the old days!' I just loved him when I was a teenager and stuff. I was just utterly obsessed with him. What was the first Prince album you got into? Alison: It was actually the first one. It was very disco and seventies. I loved that. ta, dah!!

They'd probably recognise Goldfrapp though. blah blah blah

Some of us like the new Prince, some of us like the old Prince, some of us think everything since he lost his afro is shit and some people like Te Amo Corazon. Everybody is different. Not unique, just different. Personally I think he's overall great. Not my favourite guitarist as he can't pick the right notes but hey that's my (correct) opinion. At least Alison has some understanding of Prince's work unlike that "fan" Sophie Ellis Bextor. Her review of the London show was fucking awful.

Seems to me you were commenting on the fact that Goldfrapp is well known to kids in the UK....not about what she said about Prince. DJ Lance is from the hugely popular kids show Yo! Gabba Gabba. His thoughts about Prince hold about as much water as Godlfrapp's. "New Power slide...."

I know you have that opinion, you know you have that opinion, but is there really any need to send snarky comments in a thread where you admit you don't even know the people involved? Is that productive? Because it just comes across as agressive and obsessive, and I'd be dissappointed if that was the case, I always took you for an intelligent fellow. Chill out, let others have a differing opinion, Prince can handle it, so can you. Back to the topic... blah blah blah

I am asking a few questions: Why does Goldfrapp's opinion matter? Does her opinion have more weight than your uncle's? The original poster (funkyhead) is clearly using her comments as validation for his own opinion. Furthermore, the original poster is attributing his own opinion to "us". Who is "us"? Speak for yourself...or let Goldfrapp speak for you. As far as this goes: My point was that you're being a bit damn arsy just because somebody happens to dislike Prince's recent output. I know you have that opinion, you know you have that opinion, but is there really any need to send snarky comments in a thread where you admit you don't even know the people involved?
Is that productive? This is a prince fan site. My comments, snarky as they may have been, are really no more or less productive than every other thing that is posted at the org. I mean, is the original post/topic productive? You are going to respond to the original post in a variation one of a few ways: "Yay Alison Goldfrapp. Prince has lost it, I agree." Or, "Boo Alison Goldfrapp. I disagree." Or, "Allison who?" The original post isn't a question, it is open for any kind of commentary...snarky or not. The bottom line is that this post isn't about Goldfrapp at all, it's a subtle taking of stock is the dividing line of Prince fandom...and you know that. I guess Goldfrapp haven't hit the radar in the US, despite being around 10 years Always the bridesmaid and all that
I quite like the new album, I preferred the last one though.

I quite like the new album, I preferred the last one though. I saw her at a V festival absolutely years ago, thought she was quite good, but then promptly forgot all about her. Was a bit surprised when Goldfrapp had that resurgange the other year with 'ooh la la' (was that what it was called?). Nice glam rock sound, I liked it. Not heard any of her recent output though. Might have to spotify and see what comes up. What's the latest album called? blah blah blah

Reread the inital post... "-see it's not just us!" sets the tone right away. If this thread was about Alison Goldfrapp it'd be moved to another forum. It's not about Alison Goldfrapp, though, is it? This thread is not much more than a commentary/swipe on the age old new prince vs. old prince debate... I didn't turn it into that...this thread started with the premise. Again, it's using Godlfrapp's commentary as some type of affirmation on the subject. [Edited 3/23/10 10:48am] "New Power slide...."

So...Alison is at a different place in her life now. But she thinks Prince should still be where he was 30 years ago. Uh-huh. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
