What's so juvenile?
April usually brings showers
This time it was a hurtin' kind
This woman said she wanted my baby
I told her I'd have 2 be deaf, dumb, and blind

The chart positions listed on Wikipedia are the official chart positions in the respective countries. If you disagree with the way the charts have been compiled in some countries, you're welcome to do so, but where does that lead to? The charts will be adjusted to your personal counting system until you can prove that Goldfrapp has been more successful than Michael Jackson?

FYI: The newspaper giveaway has been in the UK. Consequently, there is no chart position for "Plant Earth" listed in the UK. You could at least check your facts just once.

I see you conveniently ignore the Musicology issue in the states though. Anyway, your furious intent to give Prince legitimacy through chart sales is touching but still only a rather oblique retort to my initial inference...that Prince is pretty irrelevant in today's music climate. And, if you want to start fiddling with Wikipedia again and tirelessly go down the chart sales route, try comparing Lotusflower to anything he did in the 80's..

The end.

Lotusflow3r was only released in how many countries? 2? Good point to compare... The "Musicology" issue in the US is completely irrelevant because that is one top 10 ranking being debated out of numerous Prince had in the past 6 years all over the world, while Goldfrapp only had a top 10 chart impact in the UK and Ireland.

Again: Maybe Goldfrapp has more poeple outside their hardcore fanbase willing to listen to their music than Prince has. But even if that is really the case, then still, Prince's hardcore fanbase is much bigger (judging from sales) worldwide than the hardcore fanbase of Goldfrapp plus all their occasinal listeners combined.

If that is too hard for you to understand, then it's probably really better to end this conversation. Your world is just as full of illusions and selfmade truth as that of any hardcore fam thinking that even Prince's poo still is pure gold.

much the same Would be said if you showed an under 25 year old a picture of Prince over here in the UK. They'd probably recognise Goldfrapp though.

As a person under 25 years old here in the UK who happens to know A LOT of (& run a business trading exclusively with) other under 25 year olds here in the UK, I would disagree with that assumption.

You're quite a tiring little fellow aren't you? You think you're strongest point is that Prince's larger group of hardcore fans--willing to buy any old crap he chucks out--is basis for greater musical legitimacy. That's a twisted worldview my friend and yes, you're right, one I don't understand.

It's not only his larger group of hardcore fans - it's the fact that his hardcore fans alone apparantly are more people than Goldfrapp's hardcore fans plus their casual listeners. You have made the point that no non-fan of Prince would be interested in his current music. Who gives a crap if these hardcore fans who do alone are more people than all those who can be reached by xyz combined?

Anyway, I don't konw what musical legitimacy is (when is music not legitimate?). We'll see in a few decades from now who has made the greater overall impact on popular music - Prince or Goldfrapp. If you just leave Ms. Goldfrapp herself aside and list all the people who acknowledged Prince's talent already at this stage, then I know what my prediction is.

You have made the point btw that I shouldn't bet on Prince having more chart success than Goldfrapp. I simply tried to show you that that is quite a safe bet.

Wow. Going for the personal insult by comparing my crowd drawing power to Alison Goldfrapp. Weird. It seems as if you are defending her and her fans in the very same way you accused me of doing for Prince. Again, my original response was a snarky bit of jest. Take it however you want.

Again, a lot of verbiage that never really addresses the original point-that you feel your ignorance is good enough defence. You just can't take ownership can you?

Translation: You don't understand my point. That's okay. If I may be so bold...org member Militant sums up,in a very succinct manner, what I have been unsuccessfully trying to communicate:

Her opinion on Prince means about as much to me as Lovefoxx's opinion on Michael Jackson. It's only something that someone who is a fan of both artists would really give a shit about.

As I said, her opinion doesn't mean anything to me...the fact that I am not hip to her only furthers my dismissal of her opinion. You chiding me for that is a bit like me chiding you for not giving a shit about my grandma's opinion on Prince. Why would I fault you for that?

I'm not going to explain musical legitimacy to you or anyone else. That's your job. You're the Prince boy/girl intent on keeping the flame alive. I'm just here to say that it's pointless to negate someone's pov based solely on whether you may have heard of them or not.

You invent a term out of thin air and then you expect me to explain that? O.k....

And you've said much more than what you now claim to have said. You've explained Prince could learn from Goldfrapp how to

Create music that anyone, outside of his famship ghetto, gives a shit about for starters

Well, looking at the numbers, the only thing he can learn from them is how to have less people listening to his music in many countries.

Then you tried to advise me not to bet on Prince having more chart success than Goldfrapp in many countries. You were simply wrong with that.

This place is going crazy. You now cannot

a, criticise
b, post another singer's criticism
c, have your own opinion

without people kicking the theread's door in like Gene Hunt, defending every single nutjob decision/lawsuit/ice-cream-van-jingle that Prince makes.

I'm seriously tired of arguing the right to having an opinion that differs from 'everything Prince has ever done is just as good as everything else he's ever done, ever'.

From now on, it's sarky punchlines and anagram threads all the way, screw attempting an actual conversation, it never goes anywhere. lol

No. You want to post your opinion and then don´t want anyone to criticise your opinion. That´s rather weird if you post criticism about Prince on a website dedicated to Prince. confused
