Do you ever wonder why Prince chose to name his song and Album "Purple rain"

Why he decided to choose that specific color to represent his whole image and display?

I love this ballad and wouldn't have it any other way and I know the color Purple has its own meaning... but do you think the song would have moved you as much if it had been titled "Pink rain"or any other color there for? To me prince displays the color purple on a everyday bases his personality is (purple) and I think the song title is so appropriate to him, Anything else would have just not been right or wouldnt have fit (Hence us Purple People his fans)

Purple: is royalty. A mysterious color, purple is associated with both nobility and spirituality. The opposites of hot red and cool blue combine to create this intriguing color.

Purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank. The Purple Heart is a U.S. Military decoration given to soldiers wounded in battle.

Rain: symbolizes cleansing, not only of the physical forms but also of the mind. In addition, many people also see rain as a symbol denoting a way for the existence of a new life. It is perceived by many as the primary fertilizing
agent. It is considered as the influence of the heavens on earth and its inhabitants which helps in spiritual growth
too.


To me that pretty much somes up Prince in a whole... His spirituality his royalty type attitude and his mysteriousness "Purple Rain" in general!

I think the idea to Purple Rain came after he wrote "1999", the song,

you know all this about "Judgement day", "the sky is all purple" etc...

i heard that he had a friend in hospital and her heart stopped and all she said she could remember seeing is purple rain... cant find where i read it.

If you watch Graffiti Bridge Movie, that may help you understand why he picked Purple as a color.

His first use of Purple is on an outtake. An early one as well, but I can't remember which one

It originated with Prince looking at films of naked women who were having their period, with 3d-glasses on.

Just the thought of purple rain literally is cleansing. Purple represents 4giveness in the Chakra energy centers.

Or somthing liek that so I always assumed thats was a metaphor for apocolypse , war etc, in teh song 1999 , as for purple rain it could also mean somthing about the mix between the sky (heaven) good things and the turmoil of everyday life ie the war and blood ....
