You are sssssooooo bad. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Flaunt said: Get me a better version of 'Wonderful Ass' then we'll talk. Well, the one I just downloaded a few hours ago is definitely better than what's available on "Box O' Chocolates". Just doesn't have the added layer of treble on it. It's possible that it's from "Box O' Chocolates" and that someone has EQ'd out some of the high-end there, but I doubt it. It took me 6 minutes to find it with a p2p -program. You should be perfectly capable of the same without having to ask me to do it for you.

Wow, this is a great release!!
I used to own all of these tracks in, what I thought, good quality. But this is really something else ... and one of my favorites, A Place In Heaven, is on it!! This is something that Prince should release if he wants to keep us focused and happy (in stead of pretending with his poor ex-LF website ) I have heard more than 10 versions of these tracks over the years and these are the best I've heard by far! Some of the songs (... Wonderfull Ass for example) is extremely better. This can't be done with some home-done magic... no way! I have tried it and saw professional audio-wizards try it... there's only so much you can do with high-generation tapes. This has to be damn near the original tape from 1986 I don't know what novabrkr is up to, though. It kinda looks like: 1. he made this great cd himself and now tries to avoid being known as (afraid Prince is going to sue him) 2. he has superiour versions in his own collection and is disappointed in the quality of this cd... If 1.: Don't be chicken. We all love it!! Prince probably loves it too. If 2.: Please share! We've been waiting for the quality on this cd for ages. It would be a dream come true for all of us if even better quality appears (even though, most of us will think you're Prince himself, because beating this quality if almost impossible ) So, novabrkr... stop whining baby. Love comes 2 those who care. P.S. There is no better version of Wonderfull Ass, I've been searching every p2p around (and there're a lot I can tell you). Life's what u make it, stop whining baby Love comes 2 those who care... Prince - A Place In Heaven

You can use something like VLC player (Google it, it's a free program and plays anything) or convert them back to WAV for Media Player

It was a figure of speech, not a request Well, that's not a real figure of speech. I will admit that when listening closer to these various newer versions of "All Day All Night" none sound as good as the one on "Box O' Chocolates". They have a more distorted snare drum when listened to back on headphones. These would seem to be from the same line of source tapes though. Not of the older circulating ones. If there is something on this compilation that would prove me wrong, it's this one. As of speaking, the rest of the compilation sounds a bit too conveniently put together. You people really do underestimate how much more energy you can bring into mixes by creative EQ'ing. I'm not going to admit to one thing or another as far as my own involvement with these things goes, but let's just say that I know it can be done to certain degree. What I have of this material myself, only "All Day All Night" is actually an improvement. The rest would seem to be mostly hyped frequencies. [Edited 3/29/10 13:37pm]

^Several options:
-Download Winamp and play the stuff as-is -Use a flac -> wav converter like f ex Flac Frontend and play/burn as normal audio files -Get the flac/ape plug-ins for Nero, install them and you can burn directly flac files on a cd. The plug-ins will do the conversion before burning.

They're Flacs, which means Free Lossless Audio Codec. They can be played with free programs like Foobar2000 or Flac Front End. They can be converted to WAV(also lossless), MP3 or WMA with Free Audio Converter made by DVDVideoSoft (free). You can burn them straight to CD after converting to WAV or from the compressed Flacs with a third party program called Burrrn. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Agree with your last point but the fact remains that those of us defending the sources used KNOW that they are from newly obtained, lower gen tapes. We're not speculating anything.....

You're free to have your opinion on the audio treatment to these files, but I can assure you 100% that the source for these tracks are definitely lower generation tapes. Maybe the other labels who are now preparing to rip-off this release with paid for versions will tweak the tracks further, but I doubt they'll make them sound any better and in fact I imagine they'll make them sound worse. Okay, you two sound very sure about your comments, so I will take them seriously. I will admit that my further listens on All Day All Night has changed my opinion somewhat. As for the rest, I'm not that sure.

Never pay for unauthorised recordings! wait a sec. is this the ripped off version of the release prince was planning??? because, whoever the UTTER FUCKING CUNT was who stole these songs and released them 'unofficially' before prince could should totally step off. like, as in, step off the planet. thieving bag of scum yes that's the one, you're absolutely right. I heard he was gonna release it right after leaving the JW faith, which must be any time soon... Jog on. blah blah blah

You know, I tend to agree with the sentiments of this poster. But, after hearing Box o' Chocolates, I think it needs amending: "It's Comforting to Know That No Matter What You Do In Life, Save For Releasing A Quality Boot Like Box o' Chocolates, It Will Never Be As Awesome As This Picture." BTW, I am guessing that Chewy would be a good Michael Bland-esq style power drummer. It's almost like there is an "event horizon" for stupidity - once you fall below that line, you're too stupid to know you're stupid.

On a closer listening there seems to be less distortion on "Wonderful Ass" too than on the newly found takes. I know it cannot be taken off that easily (well, hardly at all). So this would corroborate the recent claims and confirmations.

Tomorrow you're gonna post it's the best studio boot in years (which of course it is), so don't keep on listening!!!

Tomorrow you're gonna post it's the best studio boot in years (which of course it is), so don't keep on listening!!! I will now admit that I was wrong and too hasty with my judgements. So I will apologize. It seems I started feeling too vindictive after I simply spotted those two new outtakes I had not heard before of the same line. On closer listening they clearly had more distortion on them and it seldom can be tackled that well. I could get quite close by simply adjusting the EQ, but not enough in the end. "All Day All Night" is punchier here and most likely cannot be recreated by remastering tools by using any of the material available earlier. So as far as being called "clueless" and "dumb" on this issue - they weren't unreasonable comments. The fact of the matter remains though that these new cuts have gone through a lot of post-processing and that's what I initially reacted negatively to and got carried away. I feel the same about some of the earlier material in the same vein, as "Make It Through The Storm" or the instrumental known as "Climax". I also prefer many of the outtakes as they were known even prior to their inclusion on "The Work" -type of compilations. [Edited 3/29/10 14:36pm]

You can also take the above as an additional proof that at least most of this material is from improved sources. I've spent many hours with these tracks now and those are my own conclusions based on studying the material myself on different playback systems.

The easiest way to listen to it then is to convert it back to MP3 Fluke for me is a little restrictive in use, like you can't put artwork to it in your iTunes, and anyway MP3 is good enough for most peeps. Flac to 320 kbps mp3’s WINDOWS PC: http://downloads.cnet.co....83s,00.htm DOWNLOAD THIS..MAC OS X: http://www.techzilo.com/c...-mac-os-x/ , this converter is a simple drag and drop and takes seconds. Drop the then MP3 file in your iTunes....enjoy THIS is why we had to WAIT sooo long for the CLEAR sounding tracks! Flac to MP3 Just promise, you only use that for getting it on your Ipod crappy thing! and don't spread the mp3's around! personally i prefer vinyl, but unfortunately i can't play that format in the car, on my phone, or in iTunes, so for now mp3 320 suit's me fine. Oh and by the way who put you in charge of telling people what to do with their own music...

Well,I like it when someone acknowledges his errors or his premature judgements.
Tweakings are like opinions (and arses): everyone has his own. Give a raw file to 5 different expert tweakers and you'll get 5 different approaches to what a track should sound like. Give a tweaked file to 5 different listeners and you'll get 5 different opinions.
