His hair is massive there. That HAS to be the biggest hair he's ever sported. It truely is a mighty boosh.
Love em! A picture thread that I'm glad I opened. Fantastic! blah blah blah

I'm an 70's teen and have a zillion pics just like this, all square with little dots by the date. I think it's just the standard instamatic print, it's for sure not a Polaroid and I never owned a Brownie. They are awesome pics, thanks for posting them! [Edited 3/7/10 16:52pm] Gotcha. Thanks. The Stratocasters Prince uses now are standard size. I think that pic makes the Strat look bigger because his pants are pulled up to his chin and he has the guitar way up high like the Beatles used to wear them. Look at Prince's afro....huge. That's how large most black guys used to grow their hair out, back in the day, because the females loved guys with big afros back then. The bigger the 'fro, the bigger their swag was. [Edited 3/8/10 8:49am]

Its just seems like the guitar is bigger. Of course maybe it is. Im not too familiar with the older strats. Could they have been made larger back then?

That's a '70s Strat, when 4 a short time, they had larger headstocks. I had a friend who had a natural (Ash) version of that Strat. . [Edited 3/8/10 12:49pm] "He's a musician's musician..."

So here's a pic with Prince on keys, Andre on bass and the same trap set. The MN Historical Society says that it's Morris on drums and date the photo to 1977 (were they not Champagne by 1977?). If you blow up the image you can see the electrical tape "G" for "Grand" on the left tom (drummer's right), plus the drummer is a lefty as in the eBay photos. It's known that MNHS has many factual/date errors on their website and if Morris was left handed, it must be him in the eBay shots.
Could this shot be from the gig they were practicing for? http://collections.mnhs.o...109&bhcp=1 Fashion show at a local club: band in background includes Morris Day on drums, Prince on keyboards and Andre Cymone on guitar
Photographer: Charles Chamblis (1927-1991) Photograph Collection ca. 1977 Location no. Collection I.368.127 If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

TWO PHOTOS ONLY. ONE OF PRINCE. ONE OF ANDRE.
PRINCE & ANDRE ANDERSON (CYMONE) PHOTOS. PHOTOS OF GRAND CENTRAL THEIR FIRST BAND. NOTICE THE INITIALS G C ON THE DRUM KIT. I DID LIGHTEN PICS 3 & 4 TO SHOW THE G C INITIALS BETTER. THE FIRST TWO PHOTOS ARE EXACTLY AS SCANNED. THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AT A BASEMENT REHEARSAL/JAM IN MARCH OF 1975. THE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN BY A NEIGHBORHOOD FRIEND AND HAVE BEEN IN A FAMILY ALBUM FOR THE LAST 35 YEARS. THIS FRIEND HAS FALLEN ON HARD TIMES AND ASKED ME TO SELL THE PICS TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. THERE ARE A FEW SMUDGES AND THE PICS ARE CURLED A LITTLE. BOTH PICTURES ARE CLEAR AND 100% AUTHENTIC. GOOD LUCK!!! SALE OF THIS ITEM IS FINAL. NO RETURNS ACCEPTED!! TONKA TUNES 2313 COMMERCE BLVD. MOUND, MN. 55364 952-472-5731 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB..._845wt_702 . [Edited 3/7/10 4:25am] Nice guitar*

Im sure as far as the craft prince, andre, wendy and people like that are all on another level and i would love to hear them jam but urgency is for the young (not young at heart) and the innovation period is over for this group. Hell, a lot of innovation is the product of being poor, and none of these guys are poor anymore. alot of Prince's former urgency and creative mastery was coming from a kid who wanted his spot, his time, to make his mark. It's the silk sheet theory that we use in boxing which is as stated: It is hard for a fighter to wake up at 5 am and run at the crack of dawn, to have that hunger needed to fight when he's sleeping on silk sheets. Prince is a brand, an institution, the guy that was in the red with WB after controversy, that scribbled in that purple notebook on the 1999 tour was a beast of a different sort and no amount of rolling through the old hood or calling up old bandmates can re create that magic. That picture is magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it.
