The seller lists the pics at 3.5"x3.5". That's too small for polaroids iirc.
Seller says no negatives(via e-mail). Mars23 noticed the drummer was playing left-handed. I never payed attention. boxed Is Morris left-handed??
Could polaroids date stamp? Oh the brain farts...I mean memory lapses. doh!
lol

Very cool.

I am always so happy to see gritty, 'real' pictures of Prince (or anybody, really) like these. They're so interesting and I feel more of a connection to them than slick, overly-photoshopped photos.

Oh and I'm thinking these aren't Polaroids. I've never seen Polaroids that have the year and month stamped on them like this, and also my folks have tons of photos from the late 60/70s that are small in size like these and that have the date and month printed on the white border.

This auction has ended and the seller didn't get the opening bid. I've sent him a message via ebay requesting more info on the pics. I also asked if he would re-list them. That's all the info. I have right now. Hope to hear from the seller. peace

Shame the view of the drummer is obscured, as there's a chance it could be Morris Day. More likely to be Charles Smith, though.

My first thought was that it was Chas on the kit, but fellow orger Thomas says William Daughty was the drummer at the time of this practice session. Thomas is pretty damn detailed, so I suspect he's correct.

Is William Daughty left handed? Does Thomas know? Thanks for posting the pics over here. I didn't know something for sale on e-bay could be a thread in this forum. Much obliged squirrelgrease. lol

I don't know about Daughty at all. Maybe Thomas can shed some light. And thank you for posting that link and contacting the seller.

The camera used was most likely a Kodak Brownie Star Series. The tell is the little dot on the time stamp. What threw me was the fact that most 1970s pix were rectangular and not square, but Polaroids and Brownies were.

I'm an 70's teen and have a zillion pics just like this, all square with little dots by the date. I think it's just the standard instamatic print, it's for sure not a Polaroid and I never owned a Brownie.

They are awesome pics, thanks for posting them!

Amazing Prince was only 16 and a half then. Its definetly pre Morris as the GC on the drum kit stands from Grand Central, before the group changed its name to Champagne when Morris arrived. Thanks 4 the post.

Can we post this pic whenever someone up here starts a thread complaining that he fails to innovate and write things that he's never covered before- that is a ong long time ago, he's made so much music since then, he deserves space to just do whatever and not be held against his former self.
