You know the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate who Prince is. I like that he's makes music that pisses people off. I love uncompromising difficult people who make uncompromising music. Thats just a sign of true artistry IMO... [Edited 2/27/10 8:09am] Change it one more time..

Rolling Stone Reviews their are mix reviews like Prince. Org
Here's the link: http://www.rollingstone.c...lic-radio/ A new Prince song called “Cause and Effect” debuted this morning on Minnesota public radio, with Prince personally offering the Twin Cities’ the Current 89.3 the world premiere of the song as a gesture in support of independent radio. Stylistically, “Cause and Effect” seems to find the middle ground between Prince’s guitar rock album Lotusflow3r and its funked-up companion disc MPLSound, but with some elements of surf rock and his old school rave-ups like “It’s Gonna Be a Beautiful Night.” Listen to the rocker above. This is the second time in as many months Prince has unveiled a Minnesota-centric track: As Rolling Stone previously reported, during the Minnesota Vikings’ NFL run, the Paisley Park native, who was seen in the luxury box at the Vikes’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys, penned a fight song called “Purple and Gold” for the Brett Favre-led team. This isn’t Prince’s first time using radio airwaves to debut new material either, as Indie 103 premiered four songs from Prince’s Lotusflow3r box set back in December 2008. According to the Current’s site, Prince wants to know how listeners feel about “Cause and Effect” — perhaps surveying fans to see if they like this direction before starting work on his next one-to-three albums — so have your say on the Purple http://www.myfoxtwincitie...thecurrent [quote]New Prince Tune Cause and Effect Debuts 89.3 The Current releases new song to praise Published : Friday, 26 Feb 2010, 8:17 AM CST Prince debuted his new song "Cause and Effect" exclusively on Minnesota Public Radio's 89.3 The Current in the 7 a.m. hour. "Cause and Effect" was received with overwhelming praise -- a 180-degree turn from the response to Prince's "Purple and Gold," a song in the style of a funeral dirge released just before the Minnesota Vikings vs New Orleans Saints game on FOX 9. "Cause and Effect" opens with a live track of applause before transitioning into a studio recording. Reaction from 89.3 The Current "The tune is like a little mini-symphony of Prince-ness. It's got a few different sections, some that have that classic funky, sexy, sinewy Prince and some with his more rockish tendencies ... come to think of it, that makes it all classic Prince. Except the rock-y parts might be the hardest he's ever rocked, which is pretty notable in and of itself." -The Current's Steve Seel When I heard "Cause and Effect" for the first time, the term "rock anthem" instantly came to mind. The new song will delight your senses and melt your face. -The Current's Jill Riley. You did a great thing letting your fans hear your music "Cause and Effect" first. Letting them have a say so on how your music is heard. That takes a strong Human-Being. Thank You Prince [Edited 2/27/10 8:33am]

Oh ... quite embarassing after my prior comments here but I LOVE THIS SONG!
Like a mini-rock opera. Of course, it's eclectic and free-wheeling: it's Prince. Lyrics were pretty good to me. Not JW-influenced at all. Not sure what all the criticism is about really. You guys actually made me worry about hearing this.

OperatingThetan said: The Bible Study and JW interpretation of the Bible, their attendant lifestyle has without doubt reduced the lyricism of many of Prince's latest songs. They are difficult for non-JW's to relate to.
I was once involved with Jehovah's Witnesses and am on reasonable terms with many of the. There are some good people there. BUT, I am a published poet and writer and my creative work began to turn into serious dirge. I wrote or published nothing decent in two years. You simply can't 'go there'. It is either prohibited with you feeling the need to self-censor, or generates you to 'praise Jehovah with your creative abilties'. Of course, such preconcieved, pre-planned actions are not a marker of good art. Just my experience. I need to QUALIFY this: This post was a general one, in regard to other replies regarding lyricism, not the song 'Cause And Effect' itself. 'Dreamer', 'Colonized Mind' and 'Somewhere Here on Earth' are among my favourite Prince songs. I am not suggesting Prince is no still making great songs, but sometimes I sense he is holding back and censoring himself.

OK, I finally heard it this morning. It wasn't great at all but it wasn't absolutely horrible either. It was simply bland. It was just "there". On a positive note, at least it had no elements of silly shit hop in it. I'm at least thankful for that. Andy is a four letter word.

You know I listend to it 4 times before posting to make sure I knew what I thought.
And I really love it. There are some mix decisions I wouldn't of made ( like the hey's on the intro) but In the grand scheme of things that means nothing and it doesn't stop me really enjoying the song Wait I must really like it I've just started to play it for the 5th time. I like the lyrics "If you stamp your passport full of regret you'll have nothing to remember but alot to forget" It sounds like Cybersingle and Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" Yes it's no Colonized Mind but It doesn't pretend to be. It also has elements where it sounds like one of Barenaked Ladies quirkier songs [Edited 2/27/10 8:58am]

I'm digging it.
Still not wild about the synth and the lack of low end. That could be due to the quality of the mp3 though. I can do without some of the lyrics as well. If they are truly "made in the image of God and elect" that makes me wanna barf a little. I guess despite it's flaws, I 'm still enjoying the track. I give Prince props for supporting public radio as well. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Hey, everybody! Look! vainandy didn't hate it! Now, that's progress. All it takes is hearing all that silly foolishness and nonsense on "MPLShit" to make a bland new song sound better. It's kinda like feeling better to only be slapped rather than beat down. Andy is a four letter word.

It's a good song, nothing more, nothing less. The beats in the verses are a bit too bombastic, the song improves in the choruses, and I really like the part from 2:59-3:20 starting with: "don't let them say your paper's worth more than gold".

ernestsewell said: NuPwrSoul said: His art no longer asks questions, but aspires to provide answers. It's not inviting. When he declares, "I am here" and then asks "Where are you?" one gets the sense that he's not really interested in where "you" are, as much as he is preoccupied in telling us where "I am." This artist believes his "here" is where everyone should be.
It's an old and tried true story, but one gets the sense that in his work it is forced or contrived--it's not organic. His metaphors and language is too easily and directly drawn from religious scripture. Maybe Prince feels if you're going to, what better to signify on than what's believed to be Divine words? What it means is that we're not going to get yellow daisies in the yard, bubble baths with pants on, animals striking curious poses or any of that weird-only-Prince-could-come-up-with-this-shit type of language. Now THAT is well said! Think back to 2004 when Musicology was out, and he was saying "I am music." That seems very off, and ego-driven to me, to the point that it went beyond knowing you're a professional and gifted, to "There will never be another like me". Maybe not, but pride comes before a fall. Lucifer thought he could be better than God, and look where that got him. Forever damned. I think Prince has been tumbling down hill for a long time, and it's a very slippery slope. It's a bit like a mad genius. They start out as a prodigy, then end up curing AIDS or something, then go wacky and start trying to cross breed roses with chickens or something. The same goes for writers. The all have that "zone" of perfection, rawness, and incredible prowess, then they get too comfortable with the gift. They don't hone it anymore. They hit a brick wall, and think "I've achieved everything with this gift, now I can rest on that and do whatever." Yes, but when you were "doing whatever", and you were still in the mode of honing the gift, THAT'S when it was good. When they rest on the gift and just dally around with it is when everything goes . I feel like Prince is slowly seeping into that mad genius phase now, where everything is going to be so off the wall and weird that no one will give a shit anymore. I've said it before - Prince has forgotten who "Prince" is, and what he's all about. None of my comments have anything to do with the song. I was just bouncing off what you said. Ok Ernest so what do you think of the song? i like it, it's nothing like Lotus, to me it's a bit like some of the rock tracks from Musicology. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo
