Prince needs to stop boolshettin... maybe he has the people at the Hall fooled (and perhaps even himself), but he's enjoyed every dime and nickel he's made singing "fuck until the dawn" right up to today.

If there is anything remotely interesting in "Cause and Effect" are the hints of his struggle to reconcile his materialistic superstar lifestyle with his spirituality. That I actually respect and appreciate. It's not enjoyable (as in song necessarily), but I at least appreciate that somewhere beneath the smug expressions of Godliness, he is looking back at his spiritually spotted past. And I like the fact that he sings:



Hopefully his passport is not full of regret and he doesn't choose to forget. There is a lot to remember, and if this song is his way of writing his autobiography, I'm hoping that he continues to remember (and not revise) his past, with the kind of honesty and nakedness we heard in recent songs like "Reflection." <-- See I'm not one of those pre-Rainbow Children fetishists; I DO think he has put out gems since his spiritual conversion... the best of them lay bare his heart (not his intellect, please leave the chem trails to the rants of Dick Gregory).
