Reminds me of Rock N Roll Is Alive. Disappointing you can't download from Lotusflow3r. Is that Music section brand new? Shame he couldn't have given us a few new songs. Something BIG Is Coming.

I like this song.
One of the first things I noticed was the "I am here, where are you" quote. I'm not sure who originally said it, but I have heard Stevie Wonder say it in a past concert before, along with "reality check!" So it really fits the theme of the song. The music is VERY very reminiscent of "Horny Toad" and "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" It has a very frantic pace, which I really like in that style of music. Another thing that caught my ear was how melodious the song actually is. I haven't heard the Dolly Parton Song "9 to 5" so I can't comment on the chorus so much, but the verses, I really love. I do agree that the flow could be better on the first verse, but the second one really comes together. I think that alone makes it one of the best songs he's released in a while. I also don't get the commment on the song structure being weird. It has a definite verse-chorus-verse-chorus- bridge-chrous pattern... which most pop songs have. The lyrics are interesting too, at least better than songs like "Never B Another" I like the fact that Prince does regret some things but overall, he wouldn't change things because he is who he is because of his past experiences. I think what may be frustrating some listeners is that more parts of the song are musical than others; to clarify the verses are light on the drums and the guitar and drum parts, but the chorus and instrumental parts change pace dramatically. Which is ear candy to me, anyway. At this point in history, we have a choice to make

Someone (Dan) said it reminded him of Play In The Sunsghine. Im inclined to agree. I couldnt put my foot on it at first but I agree.

sounds like a song where he is trying to make sense of his life and where is is at the moment and just decided to share it with us. Remember it is free so just a little gift so take it as that.

Shit, yeah, I hear it too, when it gets more "musically heavy" and then he slows it down. I used to skip that song on SOTT but now I like it. At this point in history, we have a choice to make

Agree. The part in the song that opens with "I am here" is like he's telling us he's happy spiritually where he is in his life right now, and basically asks "Where are you" in your life, (speaking to his audience/listeners) probably meaning in a spiritual sense more than likely.

This song sounds like advice and I use to say I would live my life without regret but u can't run from the truth which is u and sometimes in life u will have regret about the choices u made. I find it odd that most of the people that claim to hate it were first in line to hear it. Is Prince music like drugs u need your hit but complain about it not getting u high enough? I like the song for what it is and u can't compare this Prince to the old Prince.....the old Prince is dead and this Prince is the rebirth. I know some of ya'll have no idea what I mean but I pray one day u will and than u will see the light. I really am liking what you had to say here. I like the God and Elect.....so much more to that ehh? I also think when the song talks about a taste for sin - of course who doesn't right? I mean we are all made of "flesh". I can look back on my own life and see a whole lot of "sin and consequence"(Cause and Effect). But i have learned that that's what has made me the Woman i am today - my life has and will continue to be sifted my the grace of God's hand. Such a Beautiful;painful;heartbreaking;Wonderful process of Sanctification! I'm glad someone gets what I was saying. Thank U XOXO Proverbs 23:9

Well....
Prince must be looking at the org again Not as great as the teaser alluded to but more thoughtful than some of the mindless stuff on LF/MPLSS. I have zero connection to his lyrics anymore. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

sidestick, organ stabs, fake applause, poor melody, ridiculous tempo changes, just more of the same lame thang! At least his voice sounds good, though. Not that he does any singing. Oh well, another pointless release that we won't remember at all in 6 months.

Seriously though regardless of how you feel about the song, I think the most interesting fact about the song is that Prince decided to premiere it on a public radio station as opposed to one owned by Clear Channel or some other commercially owned network. I believe this is a first for him and I find it refreshing as well as surprising.

Thumbs DOWN..
Its a cross between "Cant stop this feeling I got, and something on Rainbow Children. Aside from the guitar solos, the music is weak. Definately too weak to carry a rocked out guitar solo like that! Chorus... too "kids sing alongish". Definately not something Ill listen to again. After hearing the 12 second snippet yesterday, I was really excited about this song. But...its turned out to be pretty disappointing. Come on Prince...After dreamer and Crimson and Clover, you proved you can still rock on your cds. GIVE US MORE OF IT! [Edited 2/26/10 10:38am]

As Mayrain posted earlier, he is definitely saying "made in the image of God and elect." Listen closely. And it makes more sense, as in "made in the image of God" and among His chosen or Elect.
Unconfirmed lyrics courtesy of orger; IstenSzek: "cause and effect" i am here. where are you? ladies and gentlemen..... cause and effect hey, hey, hey if had the chance to do it all again i wouldn't change a thing, except my next of kin there's something on the tip of my tongue -got a taste for sin if you stamp your passport full of regret you have nothing to remember but a lot to forget leave no enemies, leave no debt made in the image of GOD and ELECT to no other man am i the subject i am what i am because & effect cause & effect hey, hey, hey If i could talk to myself back then right now i'd say 'son you might wanna, stick around something amazing is about to go down' if i could leave myself just 1 little note one that husbands and fathers wrote it say 'you need to be a superstar or grow up, but not both' made in the image of GOD and ELECT to no other man am i the subject i am what i am because & effect cause & effect hey, hey, he cause and effect ladies and gentlemen rock/roll rock/roll i am here. where are you? ooooh oooh. haha. hey eh heh oh hoh don't let them say your paper's worth more than gold i see a generation lay down before they get old and getting endlessly sold you need compassion for one another righter than wrong that's what needs to be at the heart of every past and future soul song made in the image of GOD and ELECT to no other man am i the subject i am what i am because & effect cause & effect hey, hey, he look at y'all. brains splattered all over...moneyapolis ladies and gentlemen rock/roll rock/roll [Edited 2/26/10 10:42am] "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

the most interesting thing about this song is... why? The subject matter seems so... random. I wonder why he'd give us this sort of retrospective/prescriptive take on life right now? I wonder what's precipitated this. [Edited 2/26/10 6:28am] Like I said, he must be reading the org again. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Mindflux said: I've got no problem with the lyrics and I'm one who can't stand the preaching. But, have people really had time to digest the lyrics yet? Probably not - but this is Prince talking about regrets, its unusually open. Particularly the line about wishing he could "Leave a note, you know one like husbands and fathers wrote" - to me, that's him regretting not being married and being a father....quite touching.
it'd say 'you need to be a superstar or grow up, but not both' So which is he trying to do here? However, as always, he is defiant because he has his beliefs and he isn't the "subject" of anyone else - meaning, in part, a lot of the shit that's typed about him round here has no meaning to him. You gotta love that FU attitude, whilst still maintaining a compassionate outlook.

At first listen, I thought that was eminem, but the second time it's clearly Prince. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |
