MPLSound is just not a good record

Overall this album got boring really quick, it was too forced, very plastic sounding and just not interesting, months and months later its one of my least favorites of his work.

Becuze.....Its Prince trying to be mainstream! Name checking, ego, jimmy choos and christian dior blah blah blah. confused The lyrics are 3rd grade except for some of the ballads. Here, better with time, ol skool and no more candy are good. Lotus Flower is my fav.

The album grows on you after awhile. It was really "meh" my first listen through, but I really do love most of the album now. "No More Candy 4 U" is a really good vintage prince IMO and "Chocolate Box" is probably his best attempt yet at modernizing, plus it's a kick ass tune.
I still play pokemon. I play warcraft. And I'm awesome.

I'll explain.....Read the lyrics to TBALM, Choco box and Dance 4 me.

Its not an insult to Prince's writing ability. He has written so many great songs in his 30 yr career. I prefer his songs that tell a story with clever poetry. Those three are just MEH.

Co-sign...
The problem isn't so much that he can't produce an interesting sound, although some of the arrangements start to get quite dodgy, but he doesn't have all that much interesting to say, or just isn't finding the right wording any more. Much of the songs have become rhythm speeches with incomprehensible symbolic blah blah that simply doesn't connect to many people anymore.
"prince has been living in prince-world for quite a long time" is a quote that is still painfully relevant.

Not his best at all, but some nice songs. The production could do with a bit of lifting or bouyancy or something.

Lotusflow3r is definitely the better disc, but MPLSound is nice a least.

sweething

Each of the albums has a different sound and showcases a different style. I usually listen to the entire albums from start to finish in the car. On the IPOD they're arranged in alphabetical order which works well because the tempos change up and that's good for jogging.

Its good, I just skip the ballads since it breaks the flow of the album.

No way. Better With Time and Here are two of the best on the album.

Not a good record, and quite possibly the worst Prince album of all time.this one or TRC, just fingernails on the chalkboard of the brain and soul.

Despite it's vomit-inducing qualities, I still think it's better than Rave, Musicology or 3121. Which isn't saying a lot I know.

Really? eek

I loved the overall faster tracks on the album (except Never be Another...) but the ballads, which I had listened to before, just didn't move me.

I find that since Musicology, I have started to skip his ballads on each of the albums. I guess its just a personal preference cool

I find myself kinda in this boat. And, I've not really listened to it as much, not as much as Lotusflow3er anyway.

There's parts I enjoy on it (though, I still wonder what all the fuss was about with Prince using Pro-Tools for this album, as it seems to have brought little to the table), but when there's a track as good as Ol' Skool Company on there and Here, it highlights the weaknesses of the rest of the album a little too much.

I love the album, except for "Better With Time",definently a bad choice for a single. He knew it wouldnt be a hit, the smart thing to do was to edit Chocolate Box down to 4 minutes, and release it as a single. Sometimes when i listen to the album,I feel that his HEART isnt in these songs.IDK why, maybe its because I put this album on right after I listened to the Parade CD.

Lotus is Brilliant...stands right up there with his best efforts.

MPLSound is very, very good.

So, I agree, it's a step down from the Lotus, but they all can't be masterpieces (can they?)

Prince brings it, everytime, we should know that by now. You will not like EVERYTHING the man puts out if he's putting out HUNDREDS of songs.
[Edited 12/1/09 14:37pm]
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
