About a year ago thedatabank temporarily shut down, only for it to return a week or so later. The site’s administrator explained that he was drunk when he made the decision to take the site down and had since reconsidered. Also, at the time, he promised that should he ever decide to take down the site for good he would give ample notice of the site’s closure so that people could take whatever info they needed.

Given TDB has now shut down without any notice whatsoever it appears that the webmaster cant be taken at his word. Not that this is of a surprise, anyone who has had the misfortune to deal with Paul personally will testify what a [Name calling snip - luv4u] he is.

Don't agree here... When I was finding my way in the online prince-community, Paul was a big help and a great guide. So for me, he most certainly ranks as a great guy. Thanks Paul for all the effort you have put into the site and community over the years.... it was very much appreciated!

It's really very sad to see the Databank offline !!! This was the place where i learned most of the things about Prince's unofficial recordings. Much respect to Paul and his hard work. Please give him some respect. It was HIS creation and it is his decission to pull the plug off. We can only THANK him for the knowledge and work he put in this project. Thanks Paul !

I have huge respect for Paul for the hard work he put into that site over the years and for keeping us all updated on the bootleg world. No body else did it to his standard and to question his character, as some of you are, is completely non-sensical and irrelevant.

For whatever reason he chose not to continue is his decision to make and he doesn't owe anyone an explanation if he chooses not too. RIP DB.

News about a replacement will arrive later.

I had the fortune to deal with Paul on many occasions and he certainly isn't a [Name calling snip - luv4u], on the contrary!

agreed - he has a habit of losing his shoes - but other than that he is most definitely not a c-nt!! He doesn't take any shit though, which might go to explain why some people didn't see 'EYE' to eye with him...unlike a lot of people, Paul is not versed in the political correctness that our younger generation is so deeply entrenched in....if he hurt your feelings, maybe that is not his problem...

I always marveled at the info on that site, so it is a real loss to not have it anymore....whether it be Prince directly put pressure on the site to close (doubtful) or Paul just lost interest, it doesn't matter, I'd just like to take the opportunity to say thanks for the time and effort he put in to the site over the years...

@akira7: how rude you are calling paul a [Name calling snip - luv4u]. maybe you made personally bad experiences, maybe it was your own fault.

paul was/is always very nice and helpful and i say thanks with all respect to him and his hard work.

r.i.p. i miss you.

True that happened. However, this time ample time has been given to take the info needed, but aside from that : how the hell do you expect a person to feel who reviews all the bootlegs that are released without any payback and then see himself called a cunt because you don't like the fact he has given up due to whatever his personal reasons are ... what a cunt you are!

I had never posted a single comment on this site for 6 years, but the nastiness of this comment has prompted me to.

I don't know what made you post that as it's plain to see you're quite alone on it.

This comment is offensive and false. This kind of comment usually says more about the person who posted it than it does about the person to whom it refers...

To post a comment like that just screams of insecurity... how sad that Paul had to stop doing all your work and take his site down, so for that he is called names??? NOBODY else came close to maintaining that type of resource for EVERYONE, so that is so undeserved in so many ways.
Is Paul opinionated? YES! But apparently so is the person calling him names...
It is Pauls attitude that made the reviews a GREAT part of the site...

So for the record as someone who has had more than ONE communication with Paul over the years, your comment and name calling are 100% offensive and 100% false.
You owe Paul an apology.

Thank you for the Databank and for a lot of fun in interaction.

P. has a great sense of humor and he delivered a lost of his time on this to make this a very very on point ressource for all who are interested in unofficial recordings.
Not only that but he gave it away.

@akira: Why are you calling him out? You owe him an apology at least.

You're welcome smile

Guess some people are not thankful for something or someone they took for granted. Appreciation for Paul's hard work, time and effort would be a good thing. smile

If he chose to discontinue his work then we have to respect his decision.

I also have had several dealings with Paul and he is an absolute legend. I'm sad to see the site go down, but much like when HQ went down, I respect the site owners feelings and reasons.

There's just no need to ever call anyone such nasty words on an internet forum.

Thanks Paul, and hope you're enjoying the rest.

The amount of time and knowledge, as well as the detail Paul provided is/was a gift.

Sometimes, since it is a one way flow of info from Paul to us, he may not realize how many people love his work.

I am hoping that the response from this thread, with the exception of the name calling, will persuade him to reconsider.

His attention to detail, is as valuable as Boris's insight.

Damn, first Housequake, now the Databank. Sadness. Even though I don't reference the DB much these days, it was an invaluable resource. I remember when I first found out about The Databank - I felt like I had found gold! It sucks that Paul closed it, but it's his right.

Calling him names is completely uncalled for. Paul has been nothing but gracious to me - and the fact that he had maintained and updated such a useful website for so many years contradicts the validity of any name calling, imo.
