Loving Prince's music and talent is easy...Loving Prince as a man that a woman loves is challenging because Prince is a ladies man. For the most part I think there are a lot of women here that are mad because Prince isn't calling them on the phone and taking them on a date.....I for example am one of them. This is what U realize. "If U can't sing, and You're not an entertainer, that there is a big difference between you and Prince." I'm not saying that love cannot close that kind of gap between people, however, it would be Prince's power that closes that gap or doesn't. With beautiful women and talented women as well...Prince isn't gonna be in a big rush to throw his arms around any simple girl that just wants to love him the way a woman loves a man. It's really kind of an interesting conversation however, Prince gets beat up in it really...I don't wanna do that to him. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Honestly, Prince does have some of the worst fans in the world, he really does BUT he also has some of the best fans in the world too. I've met many good ones and I have many friends who are big Prince fans like me. In fact, I'm about to see some of them in L.A. later this month IMHO, I think more of the worst are in here on the org but we have some diamonds in the dirt too. Every artist has the same thing, so Prince isn't any different in the grand scheme of things. I just know for me, I don't associate with folks who only dog Prince on a regular basis, here on the org or in person. To me, if this is how you are with someone you haven't met, God only knows what you would be like with someone that you know. I probably shouldn't be so quick to judge but I've seen stuff like this happen many times before, so I'm talking about what I've experienced. One thing is for sure, the bad and the good won't leave the org when it comes to Prince. That's just what it is. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I can honestly say that just because you are not a fan of a persons behaviour does not mean you are unhappy with your own. Nor is it the case that you cannot be a fan if you don't love everything an artist does or produces. I am still a fan of Prince because he has released a ton of brilliant music that is an integral part of my life. that said I have every right to an opinion on new music or behaviour that I may not agree with. It does NOT make me hate Prince. Why should I hate him? I don't know him, and I really don't HATE anyone. I just find it odd that criticism is seen by hate from those who clearly have very little critical thinking going on when it comes to this particular artist.

Fans hate on Prince because he can be an asshole and an ungrateful bastard. Plain and simple.
I mean what artist in their right mind goes after their own fans' fansites?(rhetorical question). I mean wtf? His actions were deplorable. What artist charges $77 for a piece of shit website that advertised much, but delivered so little? He deserves to be hated on imo. I'm sure he's well aware of fans' dissatisfaction with the Lotusflow3r website and clearly he's done nothing about it. Yeah I hate on Prince when it's warranted and there is nothing wrong that. He is ungrateful toward his fans. He's hateful in that instead of trying to make a cooperative effort with his fans, he sues them, bullies them, and taunts them until they give in to his ridiculous commands and idiosyncrasies. (Trust me, I know that first hand, even in a lighter way.) Listen, if he wants us to bend to his ways that much, I better have a fucking bedroom in the guest house. He's a bastard for charging you fools $77 and then not serving up your money's worth of offerings. Hell, he even charged $25 just to BUY music at one point, did he not? His fans love him as much as they are annoyed by him. Frankly, there are incredibly few artists that would be able to maintain anything in life if they pissed off, and pissed on, their fans as much as Prince has in the past 8 or 9 years. There used to be a time when Prince's fan helped keep him in check. Now he's chosen to ignore suggestions and hear the fan's ideas. Now, it's just white noise to him. I think if Prince had never tried to have some big online presence, things would be quite different with and for the fans. But because he's charged fees and not delivered, or delivered substandard product(s), fans are pissed off. No one wants to be lied to and ripped off. There is no customer service counter w/ Prince. It's "My way or the highway". Very dictatorial. Prince is one of the very few artist who could do the things he's done, and his fans STILL buy his music, give it a listen and constantly give him a chance to do something mind-blowing, fantastic, and over-whelming. It's not being close-minded. It's quite the opposite actually. It's the same Prince that preached being open-minded, acceptance, and equality for men and women that now preaches about women knowing their place, how white people raped the black folk's names and heritage (yes, we know history, and we know how horrible it was), the pitfalls of cursing, and is now running a close second to Dick Gregory. When you preach your views and beliefs for 20+ years, then do a 180, what the hell do you think people would do? Sorry to say this (although I'm not), but we're not ass-kissers, blindly accepting 100% of everything he does. The difference between Prince and his butt-smoochers, and everyone else is that we have a firm footing in reality....the others are still trying to figure out which character they are on the ATWIAD cover.

People forget that we are 1. talking about a human being here, who has flaws like the rest of us. And 2. Someone who very few of us (if any) have ever met personally, hung out with, or even know what the person is like on the inside apart from the music media picture. To knock someone's personality, who one doesn't even personally know is pretty closed minded to me. Furthermore, taking every opportunity to gossip meanly about someone, yet still be involved in that "gossiped person's" EVERY move, note or step to me is "playing victim." Why would ANYONE associate themselves with someone for whom they had so little respect?
As for Prince wanting to shut down the org and sue everybody. So far from what I've heard no one was sued, there were only warnings and no one has had to pay a cent!! So comments are over exaggerated. Point is though, WHY did he do that or want to close down the org? If you had spent your life putting your heart and soul into your work only to have someone abuse your Intellectual property rights, over and over again continually, wouldn't you do something about it? Be honest people. It's illegal, it's leeching. But what would you do in their shoes? Are you famous? Do you know what it's like? Would you let it go on, year in and year out and not protect the one thing that means the most to you? MUSIC? And how many here could handle mean things being said about you, as things are said about Prince? How would that criticism change how you felt towards your fans? (If you had them?) Spilling hate on an internet board is just so easy. Constructive criticism is one thing. Permenant griping is another. Prince is just a person like everybody here. He has civil rights to protect his art, he has PROFESSIONALS employed to do his business, and he has a right to make any religious choice he desires. It has nothing to do with anybody, least of all his fans. He is above worrying what the people on the street think about him. Those who don't like it should move on, for their own peace of mind I would say. Anger is like a hot coal, it only burns the one who holds it. The fact that we're still here, makes us the BEST fans in the world. Maybe you're right. The way I see it though, how it is always worded here on the org, is that PRINCE personally makes these decisions to hit on this one and hit on that one. I think the big picture is more like this. Prince makes a decision that he is going to protect anything copyrighted. Prince is not a lawyer, so he instructs a firm. A team of academics set about doing the job they have been carefully trained to do. They find everything and act accordingly. They probably report and present to Prince what the results are and he just says, go ahead and do what you've got to do to protect my rights. He's more busy working on music in the studio probably and has little idea of a lawyer's work and how thorough they are. The more the lawyers find, the more work for them right? Meaning cash in their pockets because they work for Prince. The fees are also exhorbitant. Prince made a decision to protect all his work, and went ahead with it. What that has to do with Prince's ego I don't know. So your pro bono did a good job and Paisley lawyers settle and dropped the charges. This caused the forums and fansites to close you said. Of their own choice and accord or not? I admire your dedication of 25 years and I hope that after Prince has robbed you blind, that you are saving your money for more profitable ventures. The same FONT he insisted everybody use because at that moment in time his name was no longer Prince but an symbol with no name. These people respected that and what did they get in return : a court case. Fortunately Uptown got a good pro bono lawyer (also a Prince fan) who managed to make him settle the deal and drop the charges.
And a nice little book about his fall from the lawyer lol.Again, his fans don't understand his personality issues. All they see is "he hate us." And maybe Prince see's "Look at these guys, exposing my personall stuff, or making money, or ...whatever over my own works." His behavior caused many splendid fanzines to close their doors and years later the same happened with the forums and fansites.
I'll tell you something : I'm a Prince fan for over 25 years and I can honestly say that we've had to put up with a whole lot of irrational behavior, arrogance and unfair business practices, all aimed at pulling as much money out of our pockets as possible for one inviable project after another. The fact that we're still here, makes us the BEST fans in the world. Wrong. Just becasue you still post and see his ocncerts and maybe purchase his music does not make you anything. I mean you SHOULD still be here. That's how grown men and women act. They don't get into being so far emeshed with the person that you can't still be objective. And it isnt as if youre here because you understand him or love him or like him. Many are here to bitch. Many to praise. But its to 'talk" about him. He doesn't owe you anything.Like Donna Summer said in Penthouse (or was it Playboy. And ehatever became of 'call me madame Xavier Hollander?) "I sold you a record, I didn't sell my soul." .
