The arrangement is snappier, and the piano seems a little louder in the mix. It's definately a better arrangement for radio. It doesn't have any of the "breakdowns" that the album version does. Definately a hit. Sounds like Prince listened to the remarks here on the org. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Now all that needs to happen is having that song be played here on the radio here in America. This would fit in with Z100 or KTU and all the R&B stations here in NYC. Maybe even Hot 97 and Power 105. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I know that it would do good on some r&b stations in NYC, not like there's a lot.. , but I'm a little iffy about that mostly rock/pop station Z100 though, KTU would take a chance since they are always playing Prince classics anyway...everyday. I could see Power105 doing a mix on Dance4me,and 98.7kissfm playing it in its entirety, although it would be a shorter version for radio, should they get hold of the track. I'm kind of unsure about WBLS and Hot97..no telling what they would play since they seem to cater more to the hip/hop generation. Also, I could definitely see Tom Joynor and Steve Harvey playing this song. I think it would do good in the southern part of the U.S. as well on r&b stations out there, since that's where you have a lot of church folk, living on parts of the bible belt. Not sure how some of them might take specific lines in the song though, as although there is a specific line that comes off "sexy", knowing Prince he probably references it to more on the spiritual side, since he has a tendency to play with words in his songs. (Not sure if I could type the part of the lyrics of I'm referencing from that track here, don't want to break any rules, but I think you know which lines I mean). [Edited 8/13/09 9:09am]

I only listen to Z100 when I'm in a place where it's being played. From what I've heard in recent times, it would work with their format. ----- Because he is out on the road in Europe and the single will tie in with the shows. Honestly people I wonder about a lot of you sometime. Yeah, he's "on the road". What? Three club-size gigs in Monaco? At which he'll probably play NOTHING from an album THAT ISN'T AVAILABLE OVER HERE? FYI: NPS bombed BIG TIME in 1998, and that was despite BMG being involved. And Prince touring while the album was out and in stores. BMG Belgium after he played here admitted the concert had done next to nothing to increase sales. I remember how Eric Benchimol used to keep stats on charts etc, and would post those weekly. Got pretty embarrassing when singles barely made the top 40, albums disappeared after mere weeks, and even radio play charts were tanking. And that was years ago, back when he'd have videos on TV, singles on radio, albums actually on sale, and him touring and doing interviews and TV. Just look at what Rave did in 1999: ZILCH. Yet somehow, he's now gonna score a hit? © Bart Van Hemelen

Maybe because the song itself IS immensely funky? It would be nice to hear it often on the radio! I remember Guitar being a modest radio hit over here in Holland (thanks to 3FM). It even reached top 10 in the singles chart (for what that's worth in today's music industry...)

Yet somehow, he's now gonna score a hit? Yeah, he's a complete and utter failure. Oh wait, the chart positions of his last 4 albums in the US: 3, 1, 3, 2. Horrible. And the last 2 eligible for the UK charts? 3 & 9. Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth were all Top 10 throughout Europe. So why is 1998 - when Prince was arguably at the nadir of his commercial appeal - relevent? Now is exactly the time to try this. He has a terrific, commercially appealing song choice, and renewed enthusiasm for his career over the last 5 to 7 years - and nobody can doubt how successful he was in London for 21 nights. Why not try and launch a radio single? Maybe it will be a hit, maybe it won't. [Edited 8/13/09 12:29pm] * * *

Other than a sprinkling of the hardcore faithful here, nobody thinks this song is any good, for a song to be a hit, it needs more than couple of people to dig it. MNPLSOUND is another catastrophic artistic embarrassment, he should just cut and walk away from it, A lot of people see prince as a great artist, a great performer, having this kind of thing on the airwaves will only hurt concert sales and potential ticket buyers opinion of him.

I think you'll find that the general consensus amongst hardcore fans and non-fans alike is that MPLSOUND is a great album and 'Dance 4 Me' is one of the stronger songs. I don't know what kids you've been listening to, but everyone I know that has heard it, digs it, and that's a lot of friends and familly members with varying tastes and in different age ranges. As for your last point, Prince could release an album of fart sounds at this point and it would not hurt concert sales - he's one of the most legendary and reknowned performers in the business and that ain't gonna change any time soon. |
