There were lots of folks around here that said it. Though none quite as adamantly as myself, but if Prince should drop a shout out to the haters for making him see what he should have saw in the first place, I'll share the credit! lol

yeah....i was just making fun of the fact that you actually think prince comes in here for advice on which single to release next

Why the fuck are you talking about 1998 when P has had a really good run the over the last 5 years. Please come out of the 90's and wake up.

I don't know if this song will be a hit considering P has no record label behind him but since he is in Europe and we don't know he might be doing more shows why not put out a single.

After all it is P's money that is being used not yours and not any record company. If he wants to go for it why not.

This will not be a big hit or anything even resembling a hit, hits don’t just magically appear, not even the manufactured ones.
Other than a sprinkling of the hardcore faithful here, nobody thinks this song is any good, for a song to be a hit, it needs more than couple of people to dig it.
Even the kiddie pop kids think everything on MPLSOUND is cheese.
When even the kids, who are the aficionados of cheese, find something too cheesy, there is a problem.

MNPLSOUND is another catastrophic artistic embarrassment, he should just cut and walk away from it, A lot of people see prince as a great artist, a great performer, having this kind of thing on the airwaves will only hurt concert sales and potential ticket buyers opinion of him.

What kids have you played this for? I played a few cuts for a couple of friends of mine and they liked it. The only way for us to know if it's going to be a hit is for it to be played for people to hear. I think it's a hit waiting to happen but I may be wrong as you might be wrong that it'll be a dud. We need to have this song hit the airwaves to see what happens next. Besides, the way radio is now, if you hate the song today, let them play it enough times and you'll be singing the song by Sunday and loving the song by next Thursday. lol

I think you'll find that the general consensus amongst hardcore fans and non-fans alike is that MPLSOUND is a great album and 'Dance 4 Me' is one of the stronger songs. I don't know what kids you've been listening to, but everyone I know that has heard it, digs it, and that's a lot of friends and familly members with varying tastes and in different age ranges.

As for your last point, Prince could release an album of fart sounds at this point and it would not hurt concert sales - he's one of the most legendary and reknowned performers in the business and that ain't gonna change any time soon.

I wasnt sure about dance 4 me when I first heard it, but I did think it was one of the stronger songs on MPLS. I got two of my (non-Prince fan) flatmates to hear it and they thought it was fairly forgettable. They didnt hate it, but they didnt care for it either. If you listen to radio in the UK and the songs in the top 50 here, they are nothing like Dance 4 me at all, I cant see how this will get airplay let alone be a hit. It doesnt sound current.

He missed a trick here, because retro sounding pop songs, catering to the huge adult market like $ and dreamer are in vogue (ie amy winehouse, duffy, etc) and they would really generate some interest and even airplay, maybe well get a release of one of those songs soon.

$ would have been my choice for a single too besides Dance for me.
Remindes me of Amy whinehouse and all this duffy stuff....
Dance for me is also a good single, but for a dance song these days too slow..
I don`t know why Prince doesn`t let his singles remixed for clubs.
Don`t think it will be a hit, but if he gets some airplay it`s ok;)

I don't think "$" would sell. Besides, pop/ac radio wouldn't touch Prince today. I could see something like "Here" or "Something U Already Know" getting air play. "Something U Already Know" is a hit waiting to happen. Especially with a hot video.

In the US Prince got a lot of airplay on Urban AC ( Call my name, Future baby mama, satiefied etc) so he could repeat it with Something U Already Know, Better with time, probably Here -i am not sure-, Elixier, U`re gonna C me)...this time Target or Prince didn`t release anything to radio as far as i know....

Pop/AC in the US....i am not sure whether they would play something from prince...

But here in Europe i think Dance for me , Chocolate Box or $ would be good singles...
With Black sweat or Musicology Prince got some attention and got played a lot here on MTV in Germany.....they were not hit singles on the chart but he got some attention for his new albums...

Dance for me will get a remix.....great....but from the NPG or ??? razz

IMO every well known DJ-remixer would like to do rmx for Prince...but it`s Prince smile

I remember William Orbit doing some remixes for The Future/Electric Chair off the Batman album.

But for Dance 4 Me it should be a pumping club mix biggrin
I'd love to hear a 'Thin White Duke-mix' by Stuart Price, aka Jacques Lu Cont. He did some fine stuff for Madonna, The Killers, Coldplay and Royksopp, among many others.

Okay thanks. I would imagine the radio version would be shorter anyway. Good to know it's being played on radio.

Now all that needs to happen is having that song be played here on the radio here in America. This would fit in with Z100 or KTU and all the R&B stations here in NYC. Maybe even Hot 97 and Power 105.

doubt it..cause when it comes 2 prince on NY radio, they're minds r strickly the following songs: 1999, little red corvette, when doves cry on the urban stations it's either do me baby, i wanna b ur lover or adore that's it.

sad
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Another reason why I try to avoid the radio as much as possible. I love the old stuff but I don't want to ONLY hear those songs. That's why I got shocked hearing FBM the few times I listened to music on the radio. I pray that all of this changes but I'm ready for him to be ignored by the radio again. It's bullshit. sad

Dance4me is even more 'kiddy music' then Black Eyed Peas.. it could go both ways: becoming a big what for whatever reason, or just make no impact at all.

Bullcrap. Back in 1999 Basement Jaxx refused to remix TGRES, because they instantly recognized it was SHIT. Plenty people would love to tackle his 1980s catalog, but any of the recent stuff? Unless he pays a lot of money, perhaps.

Yeah, he's a complete and utter failure.

Oh wait, the chart positions of his last 4 albums in the US: 3, 1, 3, 2. Horrible.

And the last 2 eligible for the UK charts? 3 & 9.

Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth were all Top 10 throughout Europe.

In their first week, perhaps. And then they disappeared and were never heard of again. How many hits has he had?

Yet that concert run added ZILCH to his record sales (except the old stuff).

Yeah, the dude who released his "1999" remake at THE WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT is suddenly going to manage to coordinate things like this.

Sheesh, the man can't even plan a tour in advance, it has to be "hit & run", and now he's gonna coordinate concerts + a single release FROM AN ALBUM THAT ISN'T AVAILABLE OUTSIDE THE USA and SCORE A HIT? He can't be arsed to manage to release LF in Europe!

You might want to be careful about twisting the FACTS to suit your agenda. I know Simon from Basement Jaxx as he is a friend of my cousins. Here's what was ACTUALLY said by him in an interview.

You mentioned wanting Grace Jones to sing on a track with you. Who would be the dream artist to do a track with?
Grace didn’t happen unfortunately. She really liked our last album. We got her a track, but she is a hard lady to pin down. She is real busy…but if we can get Yoko, I’m sure we can get Grace Jones!

In a dream world we would love to work with Prince. We saw him a couple of time when he did the O2 gigs in London, and one at Koko which was a teaser. Its was awesome, so good, such a controlled musician. We got offered to do a remix of his song, ‘the greatest romance ever been sold’. It was a shame we were on tour and couldn’t do it. It would be a dream to have him in the studio. In his first 4 albums he played all the instruments, wrote the songs, produced, engineered, everything! This was in 1978 when he was only 18…very special.

The entire idea of someone not wanting to do a remix because they don't like the original track doesn't make any sense. My cousin is a professional producer and remixer and has been approached by record labels before to do remixes for people like The Fugees and Lady Gaga, and has done so even when he doesn't necessarily like the original song. Because it's an opportunity to make the song better.

Thanks Militant...Sometimes facts are helpful;))

I think Prince`s reasons for not letting remix his songs on a regular bases could be that he doesn`t respect modern club music that much or that he`s a bit afraid that it could be in a way better than the original song or be "disrespectful" to the original version....just some ideas,,,,

Good point.Junkie XL redid Elvis's Little less conversation and it was a perfect remix. I'd love to see some songs of Prince in a club mix. In fact he should do a whole happy vocal house/ or lounge cd in the mix for that matter.
