my sad reservations about my Purple Passion

In the last few months I think I've been comming to the conclusion that Prince, the Prince I fell for who created Uptown & Erotic City, Paisley Park took me for a trip Around the World in a Day wearing Raspberry Beret's in Purple & Paisley hanging with women in Peach, lace, leather, furs with hair on one side swept back, and world were Black White Puerto Rican didn't matter, New Wave, Gigolos, Rock n Roll, Funk & Psychedelia translated Purple Music, just doesn't appreciate his foundation and as much as I appreciate him as an artist just won't give me that high that I look for from him.

I'd give Diamonds and Pears and travel back thru Space and time to recapture some of that pure rawness live, hit a record store to catch up on buying the Prince singles I didn't have

Prince's vision to me was exciting it was a world with deep layers:the Time, Vanity 6, the Revolution-pre & post, Sheila E, Madhouse, Mazarati the Family Jill Jones, 1st Avenue all under the Cherry Moon. I don't think right now, of all times that it's fun being a Prince fan anymore, I find myself constantly listening to 1976-1989 music from Prince and the proteges, the albums, concerts & aftershows, B-sides long version & bootleg music and I splash in some Tangerine, Money Don't Matter, Space, Papa RainbowChildren, Reflections, a bit here and there from 3121 & Planet Earth, my hype for LotusFlow3r for some reason felt like premature ejaculation,
I'm a big photo collector and It's a full time job just to find a picture of the object of my musical affection now.

I think I've finally been beaten in reservations about accepting Prince 2009 for what it/he is, enjoy his most entriguing music that I never bore of, and thank Madonna for being the media whore that she is, she keeps something happening -may not be the same level of talent as Prince, but she sure is an entertainer, fans are constantly fullfilled on her end. You can't even get a good picture of Prince without the threat of search & seizure

It's going to be hard settling into this vibe of non expectancy

Oh Well Whatever will be will be

What's really good about Prince is his huge portfolio, remarkable isn't it?

I feel he has gotten better, I love his past work, I also love the present and will the future (blues/jazz, I can just feel it yay! )

But the fan excitement doesn't hit me anymore

Like when I bought LotusFlow3r the images nothing inside:pictures credits words
I like the music but the project didn't generate any longer lasting excitement for me. I still holding for for something more ... man Prince just give me a non polished photoshoot in Minneapolis or something...

I'm always going to check out what he is doing but I'm disappointed as a fan. It's like someone who has sex with someone but they have to wait for the person to call them, and it is only 2 or 3 times a month. confused

Ok now this is great constructive criticism.

I dont think Prince really KNEW how prolific he was to the fan base to be honest.

His life has changed..this was twenty something eyars ago..people are allowed to change and be different. will just have to accept him as is because that is all he is. He's human and he is allowed to compose the body of work that fits his lifestyle.

I never looked as Prince as the guy that wanted to become rich and famous...but the guy who just made good music and have people listen. If alot of his older stuff seemed prolific and exciting to us so be it...however I dont know if that feeling can be translated to the person and people that created it. He will never know what it was like..and it's too late to change the time. Either we love him or we don't. He's better than a ton of people out now for sure.

Im there 4 the ride.....he likes it when I Dance 4 Him. dancing jig Halleluyerr.

I have my moments of not being all "Gung-ho!" over Prince. Truth be told, I'm in that place right now. I'm not excited about Prince at the moment but every year, I have a period where I don't want to listen to Prince and I'm in that place now but I will always be a fan. The right song will come and bring that excitement back but right now, I'm enjoying other music and it's cool. Once a Prince fan, ALWAYS a Prince fan.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'm with U, I definately don't want to bash him nor is that my intention,

Just coming from a person who is a fan and want to continue but having to teach myself to tune down the excitement/expectancy. Not just music or what place he was in 20 years ago, but as a fan of his music I feel a bit let down right now. Like I said I love seen photos and most fans like to see their star, but I'm not going to get much of that anymore it seems

the more prolific stuff has to be translated to the person: and I don't think anyone can argue that the people in his camp help generate it. But it's hard for me to resign to less than, and I'm finding myself having to do that

Shoot I tried to pump up LotusFlow3r even got a few people to buy it(50yrs old) but I'm not feeling satisfied with the promo of it cause I think it's really good and consistent. the videos were lacking too...so I have to click on my Girls & Boys, Kiss, When Doves Cry, 1999, Raspberry Beret, I Wish U Heaven, Glam Slam even Somewhere Out There

I'm with you on the bolded part. I think Prince has done a terrible job promoting this CD and the fact that it's a great CD IMO, makes it even worst. I don't know what is happening behind the scenes for all of this to be happening but it's casting a dark cloud over this project and it doesn't deserve that. I don't know if it's worth you toning down your fan card but it's your choice either way and I'm not going to judge you on it but I do understand. hug This is a weird period we are in with Prince. I hope he does something.

I thought we were in store for some great stuff happening after his 02 concerts and a lot of the mini shows and concerts in Europe and the State Koko Macy's/Target/1st Avenue NY 21 Nights show & book and a lot of happenings that got me excited.

Then let down a bit with just a bit, I like the look he's presenting seems to be breaking out of the more conservative look, I'm still holding out (don't know what's happening behind the scenes) but

I'm a Gemini and we love mixing things up and change, but I think after Lovesexy so much change started to affect my attention span. I was hart broken of the change in the mid 80s' band then really enjoyed the 87/88 band then his look and band changed more for Batman & Graffiti Bridge/the movie which didn't help my love for the visuals of Uptown and it started going down hill, I followed along but with so much changing and distractions(name change) WB battle putting out so so albums. It's like when the Gold Experience was coming out proceeded by I Hate U, I was so hyped for that album because of the song but the album was ok just not on par with that one song.

I love Lotusflow3r as a 'rock' album but there are a few songs like Feel Better that don't fit in my opinion(that's J.Brown not J.Hendrix)

Minneapolis SOund is also the album I was waiting for because I love the Minneaoplis Sound, but it's abit of a disappointement in that it doesn't sound like the M Sound, takes more than the lynn drum kit, He should have stretched open a bit and had Dr Fink do some synth work with him

Musicology brought him back from the wastelands and 3121 was pure good music, I thought that Prince was on a roll and there'd be more goodness to come. But I feel that Prince has lost his way with PE and LF. They're the kind of middle of the road albums that I know Prince could make but was hoping he wouldn't.

LF and MPLS only really appeal to hardcore Prince fans, and should have been released through his web site. He needs to take a year off and come back in 11' with a 9 track bad ass album that appeals to the masses and is an artistic success.

And he should push Larry Graham off a bridge

I dont really care of mass mass appeal anymore. His live shows are unique and awesome everytime..no one like him...with there was that same excitement in the albums.

Mplsound was good to me...that and Lotus Flower are his best records of the decade so far...however .. he doesnt PROMOTE his shit in the media..we don't see him...he is not doing anything with the site..it's like...why should I care if you don't about your own product?!?!?!? Put up some new live tunes....write something for us to read...let me still stay with the Lotus movement..there is no movement...what's going on? cry Just makes me want to see what other artists are doing...Prince ..where u b at? I loved the album....almost memorized most of the tunes....

Hey PP4,
I agree with you but like others have said in their own way, Prince, is well Prince. He will do what he wants. Let the cards fall where they may. And we. as true P fans will watch and find it cool or not.
Personally, I'm cool with the ride, but I understand the discontent.
Btw, Still loving LotusFlow3r. cool

I am not very excited about his present music, than those of the past days, such as Lovesexy time or " Sign Of The Times", Batman, Emancipation
His music touches me differently now I feel concerned about how he put words together, about the harmony his music creates around me, and these often make me feel good, or generate emotions, often positive, really, rarely negative (except, maybe PE)... Even though, my last month "glance' at him was a frozen air..The first time Prnce made me feel sooooo sad! cry
I guess I've evolved and feel concerned in different ways, but still, His Music, the way he plays guitar makes me feel positive energies..
I really appreciate his jazzy moments, this style goes well with my mood..
When I need Rock, well I just have to put on oldies and that's it I am fulfilled..
I will continue to listen to him and follow..

I feel that Prince is a 51 year old man with a few medical problems (hips) that are slowing him down. He is in semi-retirement. The best was 20 years ago, just like with many working people in their 50-60s. It doesn't means he or anyone else can't do a great job, but it is a different job. And he has earned the semi-retirement. We just all expect him to be in his 20's again. The music business has changes so much too. I have nothing but respect for the man and will remain a fan if he never does another album or show. The body of work speaks for itself.

Don't get me started. I feel your pain and so do a lot of the fans and musicians that worked with him in his glory years and he doesn't give a rats ass. It's really sad and pathetic considering the greatness he once possessed(with the right guidance).

i can completely understand where you are coming from..even i who is soo obsessed can understand this..
2 me, even though those days of raw and wild emotion seem to have passed. the message is still the same..Prince has allways been more than a phenominal artist 2 me..he takes u on these experiences thru each album..i guess we can all relate on different levels..or else we wouldnt be here on the org...Even if he falls short of being the man we came to love, he still has the message and the talent 2 keep it coming!! i will allways adore Prince for what he has brought 2 my life..if he decided 2 retire and NEVER make another album..i'd still be ok..
thru the ORG we still bring it baq!!
and BTW ...Thank you guys 4 sharing your experiences with me..and allowing me 2 share mine with u!!
