I'd bet money that they were just hired musicians for the gig. Did anyone else notice the keyboard in the bar? I didn't notice that being Morris Hayes at first. VERY cool. Was that Blackwell on drums again? It looked great, way better than the 'jellyfish' background. It was Blackwell indeed, my favorite

It really was a fantastic performance. I like the way he always does something unexpected and different:
Night 1 = Freaky Funk Prince Night 2 = The Prince of Rock Night 3 = Party Prince, and now... Night 4 = Balladeer Extraordinaire Prince His command of subtlety, timing and his ability to switch registers with complete ease and control is really quite mind blowing. Of course, he would not do that, but that thought came to my mind, since she was sitting right behind him. Prince looked and sounded awesome! I like how he made "Somewhere Here on Earth" a jazz song. Good job as always, Prince!
How cool was that???? Absolutely loved it... more! more! more! I loved it too. Great choice of song, and the arrangement was very nice! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

If you think about it, it really is a jazz influenced song to begin with. He does some nice riffing on the album. However, I did like the bigger improv/smokey bar feel he did on Leno. I loved the set too. Much better than past ones (or lack thereof).

I was tired, I fell asleep at 11:00, the Tonight Show comes on at 11:35 where I live. I just woke up thinking that I probably missed Dance4Me or something so awesome I was gonna be pissed. Glad to see I didn't! [Edited 5/29/09 0:35am] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I just got to watch it,and loved everything the suit, hair, make up,he did a beautiful job as always singing SHOE. I love that song. I also thought the note that he gave Jay afterwards was really sweet. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Was it really that great?
I disagree with most of you, it was okay.. but not my fave Prince song/ ballad, I am not really feeling SHOE, jazzy stuff from prince is just not my cup of tea. I liked the funky stuff more: Ol Skool Company, Dreamer, Feel Better but very cool to read you all liked SHOE that much Prince 4Ever.

The song was pretty. I mean vocally he is ALWAYS there, perfection. I just thought he didnt have much feeling. It was, as ALWAYS, a beautiful performance, but it lacked something.
He looked exquisite, stunning, beautiful, gorgeous, and I never go on and on but his face is mesmerizing. I doubt this will raise record sales, but he looked mighty fine and I am much obliged!

Yeah I agree the set looked cheap and 80s. Like something you would see in an old Michael Douglas movie when he was young with that longish hair and his suit rolled up at the sleeves.

Enchanting. Vocals superb the interlude, soothing. Prince looked amazingly fine like a yummy, honey, bunny. I really liked the jazz club set, very cool.
Thanks Prince. | |

Oh, one more note: That was such a kind and genuine gesture to Jay Leno. How sweet.

BRIllANT! per4mance. Prince looked gr8. i THOUGHT IT WAS A PERFECT SONG TO SAY GOODBYE 2 jAY. Also 4 Prince 2 write that note was very special... I myself was proud of him very classy. Cool set up stage. Voice was on point. I give it a TEN...lol[i] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

For me, this is the stand out track from P.E. - So, very happy to hear it again! At first I was like, "oh no; no trumpet"; but then I was like "oh yeah, love the flutes and the fagott/bassoon". Also loved the flavour Renato, Rhonda and John Blackwell added to it! Stunning performance imho!

Great song and one of my fav from Planet Earth. I would have prefered a new one but the performance and the whole set was great. I would guess that Jay chose this song!? Why? Because if Prince is still into his new stuff he has to be itching to present it.
