jill4life said: BartVanHemelen said: Oh please. All that "great friend to the show" baloney. And there is nothing "kind" about Prince being a dick towards Letterman. Also, he misspelt Paul Shaffer's name. So he was being a dick and an idiot. . [Edited 5/29/09 16:16pm] Oh, boohoo! Letterman has made a career of being rude. That's his thing. Yeah, I remember Prince was on David Letterman's show in 1994 singing "Dolphin" and 1996 singing "Dinner with Delores" and both times Letterman made fun of Prince's symbol that Prince was using as his name. During Prince's last appearance Letterman introduced him by saying, "Our next guest is one of the biggest names in music. Unfortunately nobody knows how to pronounce it." After Prince sang "Dinner with Delores" and went off stage, Letterman said, "What's the deal with Prince? Where the hell did he go? Did you see? He just ran out of here. He just took off! I think he's scared. I think he's frightened of me." Prince obviously got offended by that and hasn't been back on Letterman's show since. Prince started appearing on Leno's show instead beginning in 1998 singing "Come On" and Leno made no jokes about Prince. Goodnight, sweet Prince.

I was really impressed by the set,the jazz scene really set the right mood for the song. Prince sounded awesome, the acoustics were superb this was the first thing I noticed. But Prince did not seem to be there, his eyes were distant-sad looking, it just seemed he was not really feeling the song for some reason. He looks sad, maybe he's going through something in his life...

sigh Because, as stated before in this massive thread, he wasn't there to promote a CD. He was there for Jay, by request, to perform a song for Jay's last few days on the show. That's why Jay didn't mention an album, just that a friend of the show was there to say goodbye.

tear the place down with a rockin' performance, but sedate is sometimes just as good... It kinda threw me off when he ran off to the easel though, wondering "what the heck"? I was kinda hopin' it'd be more than a note to Leno however. Reminded me of 'The Prince Show' on Saturday Night Live. I've never seen it. I'll have to look that one up, thanks.

I think that Prince did a wonderful job with the atmosphere of the set on The Tonight Show with the club feeling and the painting but unfortunately Somewhere Here On Earth is a song I don't care for at all. I'm glad for all the people who got joy from the song, I just didn't.

I thought he looked amazing too, similar to how he looked in the early 90's. Prince looks great, but looks may be deceiving...have you seen Oprah before makeup and then after? Like the Almighty O, he can afford the best makeup artists, a healthy vegetarian diet, and very likely, works out 4-5 times a week. After seeing this, and watching the Dreamer performance again, is there anyone else in music that can pull off such two distinctively different genre's of music so convincingly?
If someone knows of anyone, let me know, I'd like to check them out. Truly amazing. He is exactly who we thought he was

You're welcome....sometimes it seems like too many get caught up in his physical appearance rather than his performance.
