that was what came up when i clicked on the 'reply to this topic' (it has 2 do with what im about 2 say...) his SHOE per4m was xcellent!! omg...loved the ol skool mike that he was singing out of... the set looked straight out of a scene of UTCM...just put it in b&w and BINGO!! a nicely added scene... when he was going up to the easel (sp?) 2 do that note 4 jay...i seriously thought that he was drawing bria!! Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

my positive 2 cents...
this has been one of my favorites from PE, it's a strange vibe: i started listening to it instead of europa on my work out cool down for the last couple of weeks. love the phrasing live. P is/was beautiful. the set was cool, and bria in the background was romantic. side note: we could all use a lil' mo +, love & happiness in our lives. people are just so mean. *sigh* is STYLE catching a plane to LA to see P when u know ur broke azz got bills?

What a wonderful ending to that night. Prince was on top of his game with all that ballad. I agree that it was very reminiscent of UTCM. Loved the effect. Also reminded me a bit of the Damn U vid only w/ a colorful setting and people. That song was perfect and he looked so beautifully handsome. I couldn't stop staring at his eyes. That was just beautiful. And one of his best ballads in a decade.
The part where he goes "Somebody, somewhwere, put you down..but thats okay...THATS okay.." kills me everytime.

I loved whoever that chick was who kept shouting at P during the performance...
P:" I know you're out there..." Lady: " I'M HERE!!" It was cracking me up! Shake....shake, shake, shake.

Erased it off my DVR the moment it was over. SO contrived and choreographed to the exclusion of all spontaniety. The ridiculous posturing, the "lovely" note to Jay??? Jay isn't going anywhere, he's just moving one hour ahead, and to make that weird stab at Letterman, makes it all about you, Prince and not about Jay at all.
So caught up in himself and living on his weird Prince planet. The new albums are mediocre with maybe 5 ok songs between them all. I'm done folks. I know you don't care, and I know what youre gonna say, I just had to say my last piece. I hardly listen anymore. Even the old stuff. I saw behind the curtain and the Wizard aint the Wizard. He's just a guy. Now for something new! Purplehead

Did anyone else clock his bald patch when he bowed? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

And doesn't he have a new album to promote? If he's gonna do old shit, then at least do a DECENT song. ...At last !! someone else who thought it was lame

It amazes me he's even still running in Prince fan circles; but he's doing it just to be his usual stick-in-the-mud-self-righteous self. He'll never change. He's the anti-thesis of "Positivity"

Oh please. All that "great friend to the show" baloney. And there is nothing "kind" about Prince being a dick towards Letterman. Also, he misspelt Paul Shaffer's name. So he was being a dick and an idiot. . [Edited 5/29/09 16:16pm] Oh, boohoo! Letterman has made a career of being rude. That's his thing.

I agree w/ Salacious in that P didnt sounded a little off. To me, it just seemed like the melody of the song was off- whether he was just having hard time hearing or feeling it who knows.
But I do not agree w/ Funksteer's assessment that the vocals were off. I think his falsetto sounded fine, voice fine, just not lack of melody/timing. And I really disagree w' the statement: "Prince's vocals are never spot on..." On the contrary, I have never personally had the pleasure of hearing someone who actually sounds better live every single time I see them. Certainly there are better pure singers out there (Al Greens, Gladys Knights, Sam Cookes...) but there is no doubt that P is a great vocalist. I like that he picked a jazzy song to sing, think the band sounded good, and will admit that it was his delivery that seemed off, but the voice- pure perfection as always to me. Of course, the man looked good as always. My boyfriend found the whole "scribbling" (boyfriend's words) at the easel distracting, but I tought it was an nice attempt at setting a tone, but the message was less than witty (let's say). I could care less whether P had written a dot on the page- I love the man's songs, singing, guitar, sexy mannerisms, and undeniably gorgeous visage! His music and beautiful self have brought much pleasure to my life. Now I just wish he would tour instead of doing everything in smog riddled LA. I hate how that place makes my contacts actually burn on my eyes!
