I like the song but dont understand it

whats he mean by "no more candy"?

Means he won't be selling tasty snacks on his website.

He means no more candy meaning no more present, treats, ie. music. He's saying if you keep hating no more music...so be careful!!! :

This song implies that rather than ignoring what is said online, he or his team monitor it carefully!

Well you could look at it in a simple way, as a subjective idea..."If U don't like it...It isn't being offered to you anymore, only the appreciative.

You can also look at it in a "Colonized Mind," kind of way, knowing that you can offer your love through your own will, as God offers life and love.

To be thirsty for sweet music is to recieve...Seek and you shall find. No one can find burried treasure if they are not looking 4 it.

No one can genuinely recieve love through Prince's music, if their hearts and mind's aren't open 2 it. Prince can gimme some sugar everyday if he'd like.

The "haters on the internet" part is just one line in the song. I really do think we are weighting too much of the discussion to this part (understandable cos you can argue that it refers to some of us)

He also mentions people who are just famous for being famous, meaning their probably won't be any long term reward in it for them. Also people (critics and censors) who think that music/art influences people's behaviour instead of it being a reflection of society, Prince obviously thinks they are mistaken (tend to agree with him on that point).

There are other lines too, anyone else have the lyrics to hand?

This thread is a great reminder to me of why I love Prince. This song is so classic in that it makes you wonder what the hell he means with "candy." Since so many here long for the so-called "old Prince", this is a great way to have him back. Why you ask? He could have easily told us in the Tavis interview or any other way what he meant with "candy" but he hasn't, so like many of those great songs from back in the day, it's open to interpretation. The mystery of that one simple word makes the song that much more interesting in my eyes. It gets you to thinking and discussing and making it work for YOU the listener. That's just marvelous!

I saw it as a possible reference to the recent RIAA legal activity where various ISP's have been bamboozled into ceding to ridiculous and unenforceable demands. I get the impression Prince thinks this is the start of the end of illegal file sharing. Of course, if this is an old song as someone else on the thread suggested, then this analogy doesn't fit.
