I have no problem with it actually. He's obviously condemning people in the song, it's fairly open to interpretation as to what he's specifically referring to. Would it be better to say that karma is a bitch, or people get what they deserve, or every action has a consequence than it is to say "you're putting your soul in jeopardy?"

You could probably light a cigerette off his face when he finds out you can directly link anyone to all that $77 candy.
