"LoveSexy," is a great album...I would only give it a 9.7 though.

The album cover is perfect however. razz

No...this is where Prince's sound began to devolve as he relied more and more on the newer digital synths. He started to get a bit lazy with the lyrics. "Glam Slam, thank you maam" LOL. Also it is here, his love affair with a gazzilion layers of his own voice started.

In retrospect, still one his best but you can see the seeds of his musical decline here.

Very important record to me. I first listened to it in 1993, when I started to dig deep into the Prince's phenomenon and began my journey as a fan.

To me, it is a masterpiece and very close to perfection. In every sense.

I was pretty young when it came out, and when I bought the album and listened 2 it, I was in shock. Where his earlier albums (which I had already caught up 2 at that point) were more immediately enjoyable, Lovesexy was the first serious "grower", so 2 speak... I listened 2 it dozens of times initially, my ears and brain peeling away the layers of lush sonic bliss.

ATWIAD was my first 'grower' from P. i used to liking EVERYTHING on an album. but Lovesexy was even more of a grower. i love it now. but the cover definitely fueled the "gay" argument with some ppl. Positivity and the title track are my least faves. Solid album, very cohesive conceptually

This album is one of his greater works. Really special.

I agree, I think...

I always go on about SOTT, as it's his most lavish and comprehensive album, with some of his most killer tracks, BUT.... sometimes I'm tempted to skip maybe one or two tracks if I'm in the wrong mood.

Whereas Lovesexy is the one I always play without EVER skipping ANYTHING... and often end up rewinding (excuse the old-fashioned terminology there) several songs to hear them again. Usually by the time Positivity has finished I'm reaching for the repeat button and starting over.

88 was a good year, cos I also love all of the singles released, including all of the b-sides, and for me, the Lovesexy tour was second to none.

Yeah, this album is nowhere near perfect. After the melodies and minimalism of SOTT, Lovesexy's a disappointment. "When 2" and "Alphabet Street" are good.

Give me Alphabet St, Positivity, Anna Stesia... The rest is hard to justify. Compare Lovesexy to everything else coming out in 1988 and you can see why WB was so disappointed with Prince. As a fan I wanted something a little more hip from him. Most of Lovesexy was like Prince's personal art, not really a professional commercial product. Oh and it sounded cheap and tinny which made me think he was on hard times or something.

Lovesexy is dope, only 1 (kind of) weak track:

Eye No 10/10
Alphabet St. 10/10
Glam Slam 10/10
Anna Stesia 10/10
Dance On 9/10
Lovesexy 10/10
When 2 R In Love 10/10
I Wish U Heaven 10/10
Positivity 10/10

and I heart the cover pic too biggrin

Eh, I think Lovesexy was the beginning of his decline. I definitely agree with the criticism that the album is too busy and suffers from too much polish. For the most part the songs are ok but I don't think the way they were recorded presents them in the best possible way.

When I listen to LoveSexy in my headphones and close my eyes it is almost as if the music floats over me. In other words, the mix makes it feel as if you are inside of the music like a little world, with different sounds coming to you from all directions...I guess I am weird huh? But I love the album, but it definintely had to grow on me.

I find that the music that takes time to grow on me lasts longer. Music that quickly catches my ear gets bumped for a while, but I find myself shelving it shortly after. Music that challenges me to get into it, and causes me to explore it,usually last longer for me. But it doesn't take much for me to love and appreciate Prince, I aways find something, and if miss it, you guys usually point it out..

I wouldn't necessarily say it's his most perfect album, but it is close for me. He definitely wanted it to be listened to as a whole since the tracks are continuous. I think this was his first album where the band's voices could really be heard throughout. The B sides were a little weak, except for Scarlet Pussy considering they were just plays on the original single. The clothes and look during that time were killer. The tour...the most perfect tour!!!

For me, this album is over-rated. At it's best, it's great. But there are some tracks that really drag the whole thing down. Like:

Alphabet Street: Nice track, but WAY too long. Over-stays it's welcome.
Glam Slam: Embarrassingly bad. I cringe every time I hear that chorus.
Title track & Positivity: Padding. My feeling is that after the Black Album he quickly needed an album's worth of new material. These two uninspired tracks & one taken from the Black Album was the result.

I wish he could have swallowed his pride and used more than just the one track from the Black Album.

I agree with the comments about it being a grower. It totally was. But I also agree that it is most definitely the perfect Prince album. Lovesexy is the reason I'm even still here today paying attention. Beyond.
