Smiley should have Prince on for a whole week, he's a complex very intelligent unique person, this was just scratch on the surface...
I want to hear more! Bloody hell, I may just join a jehovah seminar just to get Prince at a discussion table. He really opened up in this interview, Prince has definitely progressed expressing himself in interviews and gotten more comfortable in public as compared to other interviews in the past (which at one time could be viewed on youtube ); he was noncommunicative, very shy, or seemed uncomfortable in most of the things I've seen up to about the Emancipation period. Of course, Prince expects/demands Smiley isn't going to ask him controversies about his past (which I have seen Prince dismiss in front of his band when asked this by an Australian interviewer "Uhm, let's not,,") and Smiley won't get overly critical, or just plain idiotic in the "fair and balanced" hackdom of Diane Sawyers. Tavis Smiley kept jacking around with his tie, mumbling. Next time write the questions down, clock's tickin dog. Alot of folks on here seem surprise on Prince's views of religion, politics. Why? You must not have kept up on his past's statements in interviews to get a glimpse of his worldview. He won't be completely accepting of any politican or human leader because he believes they are part of a "system" of control, whether they are conscious of it or not. Likewise did you hear his statement to the effect of that things here on Earth will be getting rougher and we will need each other. Again, Bibilical prophecy. His view of the UN being more religious as an entity than the U.S., that's a premature statement based on how many views on TV when he's there? Also the chemtrails conspiracy, that's pretty whacked. But it would tie-in with Prince's beliefs of human mass control and power in a system stemmed from the Tree of Knowledge. Now where's Bria ?

Sure, inner cities tend to have more toxic waste dumps and pollution--why not stick with that, Prince? So he doesn't believe in the Separation of church and state? I am curious 2Freaky, are you white? If so, you might be one of the white folks Prince needs have over to the house to view Dick Gregory's speech. [Bait snip - luv4u] Japanrocks, what about my statements indicates that? If you know anything about the history of blacks in America, which you obviously do not, I referenced facts, actual documented incidents in American history where black people were targeted for destruction. Is used them to state that if Prince bases his acceptance of the chemtrail theory on this history he is not completely "nuts" as 2Freaky opined. So, what about that says that I am breathing chemicals? I don't want to hijack this thread or get too far OT. However, this is for Japanrocks, so that you know I am not breathing in chemtrails. Sterilization of Black Women "Well Grounded Fears In the 1960s, many African Americans around the country deeply distrusted the motivations behind government funded birth control clinics, fearing it was an attempt to limit black population growth and stunt black political power. Their fears were well grounded in past experiences. In the South, black fertility had a long history of being controlled by whites. Under slavery, African American women were encouraged to have children to increase a plantation owner's wealth. After the Civil War, when African Americans were no longer valuable property, the view among white supremacists abruptly shifted. It became desirable to decrease the African American population in the South. Sterilization abuse of African American women by the white medical establishment reached its height in the 1950s and 1960s. Women who went into the hospital to deliver children often came out unable to have more." http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/a...ocide.html Tuskegee Experiment Using Human Beings as Laboratory Animals The true nature of the experiment had to be kept from the subjects to ensure their cooperation. The sharecroppers' grossly disadvantaged lot in life made them easy to manipulate. Pleased at the prospect of free medical care —almost none of them had ever seen a doctor before— these unsophisticated and trusting men became the pawns in what James Jones, author of the excellent history on the subject, Bad Blood, identified as “the longest non-therapeutic experiment on human beings in medical history.” The study was meant to discover how syphilis affected blacks as opposed to whites —the theory being that whites experienced more neurological complications from syphilis, whereas blacks were more susceptible to cardiovascular damage. How this knowledge would have changed clinical treatment of syphilis is uncertain. . . . When the experiment was brought to the attention of the media in 1972, news anchor Harry Reasoner described it as an experiment that “used human beings as laboratory animals in a long and inefficient study of how long it takes syphilis to kill someone.” A Heavy Price in the Name of Bad Science By the end of the experiment, 28 of the men had died directly of syphilis, 100 were dead of related complications, 40 of their wives had been infected, and 19 of their children had been born with congenital syphilis. How had these men been induced to endure a fatal disease in the name of science? To persuade the community to support the experiment, one of the original doctors admitted it “was necessary to carry on this study under the guise of a demonstration and provide treatment.” At first, the men were prescribed the syphilis remedies of the day —bismuth, neoarsphenamine, and mercury— but in such small amounts that only 3 percent showed any improvement. These token doses of medicine were good public relations and did not interfere with the true aims of the study. Eventually, all syphilis treatment was replaced with “pink medicine” —aspirin. To ensure that the men would show up for a painful and potentially dangerous spinal tap, the PHS doctors misled them with a letter full of promotional hype: “Last Chance for Special Free Treatment.” The fact that autopsies would eventually be required was also concealed. As a doctor explained, “If the colored population becomes aware that accepting free hospital care means a post-mortem, every darky will leave Macon County...” Even the Surgeon General of the United States participated in enticing the men to remain in the experiment, sending them certificates of appreciation after 25 years in the study." http://www.tuskegee.edu/G...?s=1207586 There are too many cases of intentional dumping of toxic waste in black neighborhoods for me to post. Just Google "dumping toxic waste in black neighborhoods" some time. [Edited 4/28/09 20:02pm] perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I simply don't get why Prince always seems the need to mystify things, and too be 'cryptic' about himself.
As if people with some common sense don't look through him? Its one thing if you are acting like an enigma when you are 20-something, at the start of your career, but it gets annoying when you are a 50 yo that keeps playing the same kind of games. I honestly think Prince would get a lot more respect when he simply opens up, and expresses himself beyond the calculated answers people like Tavis Smiley 'take' from him.

Also depending on the environment a person is raised also affects their morals/ethics. Tavis did great asking great questions. Part 2 was far better! Prince and Bria both sound very humbled by the critical reception to her cd: -Prince backtracking on the Sade comparison -Bria saying to Tavis they made exceptional elevator music It is clear that they both read the reviews here on the ORG because this is the only place where anyone brought up Chante Moore's name. Of course, the comparisons always cast Bria as a lesser vocalist, but nonetheless they were made here. All in all, I think Prince sounds very intelligent and comes across quite informed when talking about the ins and outs of the music business--his field. He has truly mastered his field of endeavor and is to be credited for that.
