That was a great interview. I felt like I was watching 2 men have a regular conversation. Prince came across as cool and comfortable with himself at this point in time. It was very interesting hearing him talk about his childhood the way he did. I don't think he's talked about it in an interview the way he did with Tavis last night. I'm looking forward to seeing part 2 tonight.

Maybe they are waiting after the re-air. Tavis' shows, shown the night before usually re-airs the next day at 1pm on the east coast (NY) on PBS, so folks who didn't see it can catch the repeat today on PBS around 1pm, but check your local listings first to make sure of the time.

Tavis has less credibility with me now. He seemed as if he did no research whatsoever on Prince and asked him questions based on their off camera relationship. "Prince you are love, everything about you is love". blech! Even Prince couldn't stand the azz-kissing. He told Tavis I've got a mean side, if I feel backed in a corner. That was funny.

Enjoyed the interview but Tavis is one of my least favorite interviewers. He has amazing guests but constantly uses too much time praising and setting up the questions. Hard to believe that he hasn’t improved in this area over the years. Anyway, can’t wait for the next part.

Tavis is a different kind of person. He isn't a trained journalist, but he's a talk show host. That makes the biggest difference. If you notice, he tries not to be judgemental (good or bad), but he always comes across as judgemental because he is always praising the person he's interviewing.

I did love the first part of the interview. Prince seems to really be at peace at this time in his life.

A post on another thread mentioned how Tavis stammers a bit and really pre-thinks his questions. There was so much wasted time in that interview, especially since Prince takes his time answering the questions!

I've never really seen Prince this candid and talkative.

I thought the same thing. It was nice to seem him open up. biggrin

Really? He was MUCH more open and talkative during his first interview by Tavis back in 1998.....

Tavis and Prince are personal friends, maybe that is why he spoke of Prince like that. He was saying that Prince writes about love in his music, which lead to him praising Prince as a friend on a personal level.

Yeah, one too many rim jobs. Prince knows the heroes are fireman, police and doctors - they save lives. IMO Tavis got a lil nervous and didn't know what to ask so resorted to the rims. Good thing is Prince seems comfortable with life in general.

Not sure about chemtrails? ya know I see Mickey Mouse in the clouds somedays.

It was funny when Tavis got into that entire 'excellence' discussion and asked how the avg. asshole can be like P?! and P was like everyone is good at something..it made me think of this:

I'd still like to see P do an interview with someone thats not a know butt kisser like Jay or Tavis.

It seemed as though precious time was wasted talking about shit that didn't make sense, wasn't relevant, and made Prince seem incoherent. The first part about childhood, relationship to his father, and his striving to excellence with the support of friends (nice that he namechecked Andre Cymone)--those were all good.

When he slipped into genome project, chem trails, & 8 presidents before Washington, those references just seemed to come out of no where, and more importantly take the conversation no where. Tavis didn't seem to know what to do.

Interesting that Tavis kept hawking Prince's $77 site as the source of the new CDs, and not Target's $12 version. (Especially interesting since they showed the video for "Crimson & Clover"--the audio of which is not available from Prince's site version.)

I thought it was an excellent interview. Prince seemed relaxed and more open than most interviews in the past. I think it's telling that he said that he's in "celebration mode" and that he is :happy to be alive". He seems connected with what's going on in the world and shows the experience/growth of someone who has taken the time to think about the world and the big picture. I really liked that Tavis asked Prince about how others can achieve excellence.

Prince just seems very happy and at peace with himself. I feel a lot of his fans can't handle that. Judging from the lack of comments about this latest interview. They can't find anything negative 2 say. I was proud of what I saw. Very happy at his life now that he has finally found inner peace in himself.
eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

But isn't Oprah a talk show host? She shows brevity with many of her questions and doesn't set up the question with a lot of extra talk. When she's not cutting people off lol she's pretty much to the point.

I'll try to look at it differently when I watch tonight but it drives me crazy because it always seems they have so little time and he interviews people who I don't often get to see so I want as much from the guest as I can get without his extraneous jabber. Imagine how much they could say if he weren't talking as much.

I totally feel you on this. See, the biggest difference between Oprah and Tavis is that Oprah is a trained journalist and Tavis is a person that used to do radio that lucked up on television. I don't understand his appeal. He is very good at what he does (with the caucus and other things) and I appreciate the perspective he brings to the table with issues, but he is annoying as hell to listen to. lol

I missed the key word: trained

I often find him cringe worthy but occasionally have to stomach for guests such as P. wink

The most interesting and insightful part of the interview was when Prince spoke about criticism. He pretty much stated that he's good with it as long as it offers something and doesn't just seek to belittle and degrade based on personality or the writers' lack of creativity. He actually even admitted that some of the things his heard was actually hurtful. Should be required viewing to all on the org... judge not less thee be judged.

Funny or not, she has done her share of local news and radio before she became the BIG O. She did go to college to pursue her Communications degree.

Yea. This site was the first place I thought about. Especially how so many people call his music "crap" and can't justify why they consider it "crap".

when prince mentioned that his father told him to not get a girl pregnant or married, i just remember when director albert magnoli mentioned this on the purple rain 20th anniversary special feature. I did sense in last night interview when he brought that up that it seems like he is still hurt by that confused

Even in 'promoting' the website, the didn't specify that you need to use a '3' instead of an 'e' so people who would look for it will end up someplace else if they just try to type it in.

Maybe they will make it clearer tomorrow night?

Oh good heavens people, there's a 3 on the album cover, why wouldn't someone deduct from that to use a 3 in a URL? If one thing doesn't work, people will try again. And everyone knows it's at Target. It was probably just not in Tavis' radar to mention some retail chain.

Prince's father sounded a lot like mine. I got the same speech. Maybe that's why I'm not married right now. Who knows?
