Redhead stepchild, wouldn't that song (sung by prince obv) have been a GREAT song for Lotusflow3r?

I was just wondering, wouldn't Redhead stepchild be a fantastic song to put on Lotusflow3r if it were sung by prince alone? The way he performed it live like at the Nokia theatre in '06 with Tamar?

Absolutely. It was such a waste on the ill-fated Tamar release. It really would have been a hot track (radio worthy) for this album. I've only found maybe 4 or 5 songs in the entire 3-CD set that I can tolerate listening to. The rest are just drivel.

It would of fitted in very well with the whole idea of raw and guitar based ROCK IMO.

I only heard this song once when it was performed on the Today show. I loved it and yes, it would fit nicely with the songs on Lotus Flower. Was it ever relesed in any way, shape or form?

nod Good point! It would have made for a great addition! It's too bad the days of the B-side are long over for Prince, or else it could have popped up in a reworked form.

Whilst I love the guitar work on this track, I actually find the song title and content offensive.

Coming from Prince, where all children are paisley and equal, the implication here is clear - that someone with red hair is inferior and you reslly wouldn't want a child with red hair!!!

It's just a hair colour for goodness sake - yet this song is singling out/targeting how some people look! Would it be acceptable to sing about a Black Stepchild, a Muslim stepchild, a Jewish stepchild?? I don't think so!
Hair colour is not a race or a religion - sure - but to highlight a difference in someone's appearance and use this as a reason to suggest they are inferior - quite simply is out of order! "UPLOAD THE MASTER RACE IDEA, GENETICALLY DISPOSED TO RULE THE WORLD. DOWNLOAD A FUTURE FULL ISOLATED BOYS AND GIRLS" - yeah, right P! He is more intelligent than "redhead stepchild" would suggest and should know better.

No, I don't have red hair and you may think I'm going over the top/ too PC about a hair colour - but that's just the point - it is JUST a hair colour and thus no less acceptable to have a red-haired stepchild as it would be to have a blonde-haired stepchild or black-haired stepchild, or brown-eyed stepchild.

Even comedians now seem to target people with red hair as an easy cheap shot as for some reason it is socially acceptable to pick on such people - they can't get away with making jokes about the colour of people's skin or ethnicity - yet isn't (real) red hair an indication of ethnicity/background?
Got that out of my system - just a bug-bear - I'll now get back to work with Lutusflow3r playing in the background.

That song is a very obvius rip-off from "American Woman". If he'd released that officially without giving credit to the original composers, he would have been sued for sure.

1sexymf - cool that you don't take offence - I'm not suggesting people with red hair necessarily will be offended.
It still doesn't make it right though and to say it's only a song is no defence - he is still "purpletuating" the growing comment that having red-hair makes you inferior. Would it be "just a song" if someone sang "Pakistani stepchild" or "disabled stepchild" - of course not, because socially (and rightly so) this is no longer acceptable.
In my opinion (and that's all it is) targeting a specific group for the way they look, be it hair colour, skin colour or colour of their eyes - (oh, wait a minute - nobody "has a go" at anyone for their eye colour - that'd be ridiculous.....so like having a go for their hair or skin colour isn't ridiculous?) is blatantly wrong.
It's just that society do not, at present, perceive the "ginger bashing" to be wrong - just like racial segragation was deemed to be right decades ago - until a lady stood up (or not, as was the case) against it.
Difference is, red-haired folk won't make any stand - it's just a song, just a child bullying another child, just a joke etc. It's still wrong!

Prince and Lenny Kravitz are very good friends smile This is not something to be sued for but instead simply taking ideas from friends and peer musicians. Kravitz has a lot of prince in his music at times

This song is not written by Lenny Kravitz, he covered it.

That might have worked, not sure where I'd put it, maybe in place of Love Like Jazz which is probably my least fav song on Lotusflow3r.

Wish F.U.N.K. would have been put on Mplsound. I tacked it on to the end of mine.
