If this was a problem, Lenny Kravitz, wouldn't have had a career.

he still needs permission whether its the whole song or part of the song. if someone sampled a riff from kiss and raspberry beret, they would still have to ask prince (or whoever owned the license to those songs). the person in question would have to be at least credited and they could sue for recompense or have an agreement on licensing.

Alright. I'm only posting this because of how absurdly sick I am of this topic.

The songs use different riffs. There is no stealing. There is no reason to credit Jimi other than maybe a "special thanks" at the end of the album credits.

To vinx98, yes, you are very correct when it comes from permission for sampling, but there is absolutely no sampling. Prince wrote this song.

The third is commonly credited to Muddy, but I couldn't find the Muddy Version. That is actually an earlier version by Hambone Willie Newbern. What? You mean "Dreamer" took a song that took three songs in which one took another song? "Rollin and Tumblin" is originally "Minglewood Blues," first recorded by Gus Cannon, which was then "Roll and Tumble Blues" by Hambone Willie Newbern, and THEN "Rollin and Tumblin" by Muddy Waters.


So you're saying the Hendrix estate should sue because of a claim that Prince did the same thing that Hendrix did with the very song in question, in which one of those songs that Hendrix used to make the aforementioned song was actually a version of another song which was a version of another song.

Maybe it's just a "reimagining" of Voodoo Chile! LOL Could also be paying homage to the guitar genius. Who really cares. Everything is derivative or inspired by something else and "Dreamer" is an AWESOME track however you label it.
