I totally agree, there is only one Sade. Prince should of said nothing, let the album speak for itself. Good or bad.
polkadotbliss said: Im really not sure Prince did Bria or himself any favours at all when he said we got tired of waiting for Sade to make an album, in fact he shoukd never have mentioned her at all-cuz it was bound to cause comparisons-and like Prince-Sade is a one off-and he really really needed to respect that. He dodn't-now its gonna bite him on the ass for it. Bria is good-talented. But she lacks Sade's special ingredients that make her so good-and its shameful that Prince seems to think its just as easy as thinking''well we'll just do it-how hard can it be.....plainly ALOT harder than he thought. I recently had reason to go back through his old output (compilation for a friend) and it really pointed out how mediocre what I have heard SO far is. Again - I want to hear the rest before I knock or praise anything. It's more of the same to me so far, good playing skills backed by so so songwriting - and I mean compared to MANY other people at this point (not just his material) and pretty meager production. I can't help but think he needs someone stopping him at a point and saying that is great NOW, so leave it alone. Or - "really?". I certainly would want some people like that if I had attained the status he has. No one is capable of being on the money every time. You need friends to keep your head and creativity in check. I feel his "friends" are all on the payroll.. Could be wrong, but that's my gut. Speaking up for those who DON'T like all the tracks so far. Which I thought was a rather weird assumption. Thats fair enough, and well put. I would never compare his new stuff to his old classic stuff. I like it as a separate side of Prince music. I still really enjoy it though. The general reaction has been a lot more positive than recent releases hasn't it? I don;t think so, actually. The responses to the 3121 pre-releases were generally between positive to ecstatic. Even Te Amo Corazon wasn't panned, the live versions of Satisified and Fury (!!!) got excellent receptions, as did the preview of 3121 (the song). If anything, I think the mixed reception of the album (which was still mainly positive I think) was because it didn't live up to the expectations that the pre-releases created... The above also descibes my personal response, whereas my reaction to the latest pre-releases have been lacklustre to say the least. I listened to each at most twice and barely went back to try again. Can't even remember them (whereas BS, 3121 and Fury I listened to over and over and over!!) "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

The best albums of Prince are the one's that where critisized the most.
The worst albums are the ones that had the best reviews. I will buy it and judge it by myself. Don't forget what happens to the "around the world in a day" album. I love it so much. The press did critisize it to the ground. By the way, it is a very cheap price. Way to go Prince.....

I am going to have a problem with a Prince 3 cd set without his trademark sassy falsetto vocals. The 5/6 min or so ballads he does are really what got me into Prince. "Do me baby" "Adore" "Insatiable" plus all the ballads from Emancipation.
