But I never cared too much about Prince´s lyrics anyway (maybe because english is not my native language). I am really wanting a solid album with live-band feeling and some psychedelia. Planet Earth had that live-band feeling, but it was a weak album IMO. I loved what I heard so far. agreed. Planet earth was a horrible mess of an album.. lacked a great deal. The few songs i've heard from this, i think he is on a more suitable path for my tastes. I can't guarantee i'll enjoy this for forever, but it would be very hard to get any worse than planet earth.

And way better than any other single he released since then. Sure, we need to hear the collection to decide, if this review is right or wrong. I am a prince fan for a long time, but this review reflects a lot of the things i feel often, if I hear a new prince record since "Gold": there are a few really cool tracks on its latest albums, but some of the tracks lacks quality. And his statement about the Bria Valente album describes exactly what I thought about the prevoiulsy previewed two tracks of this album.

On the other hand, even the most diehard fans might fear there's some truth in the text. Let's hope for the best, and fear the worst. Yes, indeed! That is the stance I'm taking with this new release.

The thing is...The Rainbow Children is the last Prince CD I really got into. I liked Musicology and 3121, but didn't dissect them like TRC and most of his 80s albums. Planet earth sucked imo. So this review for Lotus has me pretty excited.

Does this mean Bria won't be claiming the title of the new Sade or High Priestess of the Quiet Storm in the near future?

Does this mean Bria won't be claiming the title of the new Sade or High Priestess of the Quiet Storm in the near future? Oh stop it! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Genesia said: Look...I am not totally in the can on The Rainbow Children, either. I think the reviewer's right in his assessment of it as wildly uneven and a hard slog, at times. There are tracks on it that, when they come up, I can't hit "skip" quick enough.
But...when The Rainbow Children shines, it really shines. As much as I hate some tracks, there are others I love. And if I'm honest, that's where I've been with pretty much everything since Graffiti Bridge. The last Prince album I loved start to finish was N.E.W.S - and I think most would agree that that is not a "standard" sort of outing for him. I know by now to take reviews with a grain of salt - and form my own opinion. IMO this describes every Prince album before and after 1999 through Lovesexy/Black Album Also..... I too thought that TRC was a jumbled mess This reviewer is likely spot on just based on the kind of records Prince has always produced from 1978-1982 and 1990 - present Like he said... just rip the ones you want to hear to your ipod... its pretty much what I expected although I admit I hoped for something I could listen to all the way through. That being said... I will certainly judge for myself... but its hard for me to ignore what the reviewer says here since it pretty much describes Prince's output over his career Dance... Glad to hear he thinks it's uneven - I always like when most reviews are like this...it usually means it's a great CD! As someone else pointed out SOTT didn't get great reviews either and it was one of his best!
His rather positive comments about MPLSOUND are encouraging cause based on what I've heard makes me think it won't be that great. I sure hope I'm wrong and that he truly has recaptured the Controversy vibe and sound. Reviews for these CDs are going to be all over the map which is fine. I just got back from a visit to a Salvador Dali exhibit and I could not help but think of Princes vast body of work - many love it and many hate it but in the end his music and impact will last well beyond our lifetimes. A sign of a true artist. The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I think bundling Bria's CD with 2 of his own is the only way people would ever hear it. I would never have purchased it, and I don't even want it in my collection. At least it's Prince's music in the background.
If the 2 Prince albums are at least as good as Musicology or 3121, I'll be happy. I'm really considering them as 1 album with 2 parts, so I'm sure there'll be something on there I love.

Nothing surprising here. This is exactly what I expected although I even question if I'll like MPLSOUND all that much after the small sample we heard. but I'm still looking forward to finding the 3 or 4 gems that'll take be back to the old days for at least a little while.
