That is what I am talking about exclusivity. Why sell more memberships when your hard core fan base already paid for the right to the best seats? Bon Jovi also has a fan site where he charges fees for pre-sales and private shows.
That $25 membership fee Prince charged in 2004 allowed everyone to join, including scalpers. Hard core fans, like us, may have been deprived of the great seats. I did enjoy some GREAT seats, sound checks, and after shows. Downloads don't mean much to me, because from what I know and see, those who want to download music can already do so for free. Well yeah scalpers joined but the way to beat that would be to make us pick up the tickets at roll call and make people enter the show right then like they did during the hit-n-runs. But really ticketbastards is so corrupt (its not P's fault) but tickets that were premium were sold to non-NPGMC members, so you have non-members getting tickets that are just as good as members. In the end these systems just up the prices for premium seats for the scalpers and increase corruption. It's all about supply and demand.

Well, what I don't like about ticketmaster, is when they have an auction for the best seats at a concert, when customers bid on them. Usually those are the best seats, and if you are ordering tix online/charging them via phone/or at the box office, and choose not to participate in the bid for the best seats, you're often left with the choice of purchasing seats in the higher (further away from the stage) level seats. But apparently artists or whomever represents them agree to that or they wouldn't allow it to happen. I don't know how the process works, but I just don't like the bidding process they use sometimes when selling tickets. [Edited 3/14/09 11:11am]

No more org! they usually target the unofficial fan sites/forums (that stay more popular than mental institution they run) 6-8 months after opening another official site. That's what the real fans are worried about. Bringing down the .org or other fan sites so fans join the new site! The divide and conquer tactic used in the past. Which IMO really alienated us that do not have a short attention span and is the root of much of the pissyness towards the official sites! As far as I'm concerned this is the official forum of Prince! The only good thing LF3 has to offer is music, tickets. It always amazes me that they can not get a web designer as good as some of the unofficial fan sites. Those sites are created from love for the music.

[Edited 3/14/09 11:11am] From what I understand about what TM is doing now, is that the tickets go on sale, and within a few seconds they are "sold out" and you are redirected to another seller that charges thousands of dollars for the same tickets. I hear that several big name artists are taking them to court or will be taking them to court. When the former NYS Governor Spitzer held office, he made this type of thing legal here in NYS. There may be more to this but I haven't had time to read up on it. It has been in the headlines lately because Bruce Springsteen is taking TM on and now I hear Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are pissed. It'll work out better for everyone. In such a hurry to have something viable to say. Did you bother to read koolmuziq's post? Do that, then get back to me. It'll work out better for you. If the average CD price is $16 ($13- $19) Prince sells his CD for $12 (or any price thereabout), that's at least a savings, discount of $4 for each CD bought.
In the instance of the upcoming release, it's 3 @$16 =$48-$12 (sales price) =$36 savings. The $77 dollars seems more than reasonable. Any additional/potential savings on other content is frosting.

$77/£54/€60 is hardly a fortune is it? £1 a week - if the sub lasts a year. There was an article about lotuflow3r.com saying there would be videos of previous concerts.
If $77 is going to keep scalpers out, that's not going to work... MJ tix are already selling for 4 times the face value... so a scalper will get his $77 back on 1 ticket! Until we know what's in store for the sub fee, I can't understand anyone's complaining round here. If you can't afford £1 a week you'd better become a scalper... somehow!! Who would have thought that getting some kind of info on a new Prince site would cause this much chaos and disorder? I thought we wanted Prince back on the web? Both sides of the issue make valid points but one thing is true that I think we all can agree on. We really don't know what's coming with this site. We know some things and we don't know some things. I can't speak for everyone but I hope we get a lot more from this site than the previous ones. I'm going into this knowing how fickle Prince is and if there isn't a lot of material on there then that's on me but I'm going to join this website cause I want to see what Prince is doing & to be a part of it too.
