I must say it is a good album, but a bit one dimensional. Sorry guys - I like it but not as much as some of you. I did hear Rock hard in a funky place in shuffle mode on my iPod recently, and that is a terribly funky song. Very funny, and the guitar just tears it up!

Bob George is a hot song, the guitar work and the energy of the song is awesome
Anyone who has her the 1999 outtake Do Yourself A Favor will recognize Bob George's origins

Where Lovesexy was once my favourite Prince album, now I actually prefer the Black Album. Cindy C is in my top 5 Prince songs. Black Album Lovesexy Totally agree. I always like the dark/light vibe between them intertwined with a love song that touches the theme of love and balances in between. Even the way it was released to the world (bootleg) fits in this balance.

I agree with you.I like the album but I'm not in love with it,like so many others are.I think I like the idea of the album,as opposed to the actual songs. It's funky, but very one-dimension.These are just throwaway grooves that Prince could compose in his sleep. He made a wise move by shelving it and coming up with the superior 'Lovesexy' album instead.

When I finally got the CD in proper - and to this day really - it sounds too fast because I was so conditioned to hearing it at the slower speed.
I bought a cassette of The Black Album from some dude on the street in NY but I had the opposite problem - my copy was recorded at a slightly faster speed. Was a weird shock when I heard the authorised version. This happened to me as well (my copy was slow) but once Lovesexy came out and I heard the correct tempo for 'When 2 R In Love", I adjusted my tape's speed to match it and dubbed another correct copy of the album (albeit one more generation down in quality).
