On the Indigo Nights CD inside the 21 Nights book. On one of the songs, Prince goes into a comedic dialog and mentions having to buy his mom these things growing up. I was at the Indigo that night and it was brilliant, Prince was very comical Sometimes Life is like the post...You just don't get it!

I think when Prince did that particular skit, he was speaking directly to his generation, y'know, those others in the audience who were born in 1958, or even before or after that. Cuz I know when I was a kid, there was no way I in the world that I would've been allowed to buy my mum a packet of cigarettes. At that point you had to be over 18 to do so and you still do now. So, again I say, "no, Prince you're dead wrong. I never did that." Although she did send me to buy bread, eggs & milk.....which, if Prince had've asked the audience that, I don't think it would've had the same affect!

i don't remember seeing anyone in their 50s in the indigo2 on any night. most of the audience were about 30-40ish and not his generation

That's how I always heard that skit though. i think all the old people like prince went home to bed after the concerts instead of standing in line for hours to get in the aftershow and then stand for another few hours till about 2am waiting on him to get onstage.by the time we got home the old folks would be up getting dressed to nip out and buy a copy of the daily mail and a pint of full fat milk

I remember when he came to Australia, he played an aftershow until 4 in the morning! I didn't get home til 7am!

My mom never sent me to the store to buy cigarrettes and tampons for her. 1) my mother did not smoke and 2) she bought her own when she went grocery shopping. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

That's how I always heard that skit though. No, you were correct the first time. He was speaking about the simplicity of things back when WE were kids. During those times we could walk to the corner store and buy whatever our moms sent us for including cigs. They costed around 50 cents and there were no warnings on the packaging either. Hearing Prince chat about that kind of stuff was cool with me since I'm only a couple of years younger than he is. I'm sure there were folks there within his age range too. Old Unique? Let's see how you feel about that when and if you reach 50. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Yes, I guess I'm from the generation that did that sort of things for their Mother. I remember going up to this one store that a man named Mr. Synder was the owner and there was a lady who daughter was in my class named Ms. Gloria and I would go and ask her where the tampons were in their store because I didn't want to walk just a little further to the Krogers. She always help me with it and strangely enough none of my other brothers ever had this task thrusted upon them. Mostly because I was normally the only one around the house. If I had only known what I was getting then I probably would have had a problem getting those items. I hated that my Mom smoked so that was hard enough but TAMPONS!!! If I had the maturity to know what I was getting I probably would be catatonic now. LOL.
