I'll Just State the Obvious

Prince, for some reason, many many years ago after reaching the apex of stardom simply..... lost it..... in the recording studio.

This is evidenced by many great live performances following many horrid album releases.

Unfortunately, for us (not Prince), the bulk of what we listen to is Prince's studio work. Obviously.

This is really too bad. A great analogy is of a great collegiate sports pick into any pro sport of your choice, to sign the million dollar deal, to get the love and respect of the town, and get injured in the first game, to return with apprehension and fear of injury, never the same.

This is the year for Prince to prove me and people of my mindset wrong, but with his mindset of a religious zealot, I think the odds are stacked against him, which are of his own making.

I'd say that the problem came once Paisley Park was finished and Prince could afford to record in state of the art facilities... the sound he's settled on has become too clean... that and the fact that after Susan Rogers and Femi Jiya... well, his engineers haven't been all that flash. (imho).

These next few releases will be interesting to see how he's revisited the studio, though the songs released still sound to 'clean'... even though they are more interesting as songs than some of the stuff more recently released.

I would just say that his time happened then it passed...no one that i can think of in history really had more than "that moment" then it was all let's relive it from there....

I am just out for some music that sound so dated in a few years.. the bulk of his stuff in the last 15 years hasn't aged well at all.. a few here and there get a pass.. the acoustic albums, few studios.. but overall, I have to pick specific songs from every album.. nothing consistent

Name one popular recording artist with a long career who has consistently released music of stellar quality and didn't actually peak at some point in their career - in terms of creativity and popularity. It's the natural flow.

I don't know how true it is that the music to be released is two years old...goes to show that we recieve a belated Prince. I'll always love the music whatever it is because I think Prince's voice is beautiful...

If Prince doesn't prove something 2 U...The material doesn't accompany how he is investing in music at this time.

I disagree...Discojellyfish is all Prince, all alone. Studio whiz from day 1.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I became a fan for the guitar...i was / am into hard rock...Metallica, GNR, Pantera..then by accident stumbled on lovesaxy dvd..was so bored i decided to have a look at this Prince person..by the time i reached "sister" I was never the same..forgot all the great guitar solos i heard b4..this was blistering...then i just wanted more..i collected all i could. But then, i still am waiting for my next fix of SOME ALL OUT "TEAR YOUR CLOTHES OFF YOUR BACK" GUITAR LICKS FROM THE MAN...I know he got it..he is right up there with any of the so called greats...MORE DIVERSE FOR SURE...but some how he ignores this side of his fan base..the hard rockers..he teased us at the rock roll hall of fame and thats about it..Prince, we still waiting for some hard killer ass guitar track or all out rock album...Just wishfull thinking.

I think perhaps the author of this thread is simply noting that it has happened to our purple hero.

I think that Mrsquirrel needs to go to another forum.... Besides Wales didn't kick England's ass... they merely had it handed to them on a plate for them to stomp all over biggrin
