Stunners

That's how Preraphaelites called their models, back in the late '800s. Stunner was also every new Prince album when it came out.
I remember I used to recognize a new Prince song 'cause of its power, its particular sound and emotion. He used to write very moving compositions, didn't he?
That kind of music that strikes U directly in your heart.
Even if Prince's music is still enjoyable, I'm not feeling stunned or moved like I did before.

I think his last powerful album was 'The gold experience' (The rainbow children was just different, a new direction, with a different power).

What do U'all think?

I know what you mean.
Even though I enjoy his most recent albums, I'm not blown away by them. I used to get so excited whenever I heard a new Prince song. He used to be such a trail-blazer and was leading the way always in a new and interesting direction.
His songs used to be so creative, edgy and unique. His music was oozing such energy and passion. Nobody else's music could touch me the way Prince's music could.
Whenever I hear a new Prince song now it sounds more like something I have heard before.

I know how you feel. First, I thought that it was him getting old. Then I thought that it was just me getting old. Now I think it's a combination of both.sigh

And completely off-topic: Any recommendations for nightlife in Milano? I'll be in the city with a couple of friends on Saturday.

Look at "Black Sweat." The song and the video are fantastic. I feel that "Planet Earth," the album also has great songs...maybe some Prince listeners are just used 2 Prince's style that they don't recognize his unique place in the music field.

Prince will have a following that is a new generation. Maybe it takes the younger kids 2 help open the ears of their generation. I'll always be excited with Prince's material...He just impresses me...
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

Call my Name was a 'stunner'
I wanna be loved to the 9s, so let me cover your ass with this sheet, and baby, you better stay on the beat! Cause you know the Karma Sutra? I can rewrite it. But, with half as many words.

I suppose for me it's just old age, but I am not particularly "stunned" by any new music anymore.
I personally don't expect Prince to stun me anymore with albums that will one day be considered classics by the general music world.
With that being said, I have been extremely satisfied with The Rainbow Children, One Nite Alone (piano), N.E.W.S., and to a lesser degree 3121 and Planet Earth.
I am always going to find new Prince music interesting enough to give it repeated listens, simply because I find him a unique and fascinating artist.
He is exactly who we thought he was

Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road
But the reward is great

TRC was a stunner. A piece of art that keeps astonishing me and all my musicians friends.

The Gold experience was very good but full of very average tunes as well (319, TMBGITW, I hate U, We March...)
