Prince Clothing BEFORE Prince

Hi Orgers!

Alright, I saw the strangest and funniest thing last night and just had to share it!

Last night I was channel surfing and came across a movie called The Red Shoes on one of the classic movie channels. It was a boring ballet flick and I was going to change the channel, when I saw it.

There was a scene with dancers practicing and thier instructor had his back to the camera. And this man, I swear on a stack of Holy Bibles, was wear a pair of tight, high-waisted pants like Prince wore in the Gett Off Video. I couldn't beleive it and balled up on the bed laughing.

In a movie ten years before Prince was even born and his clothes were on a short, slim man, much in stature like him. It was too cute!

I just wanted to share that!
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

Like he does with his music, Prince takes many wardrobe influences and turns them into his own.

A few direct comparisons would be Hendrix, James Brown, Adam Ant and even Little Richard.

Hendrix's influence is all over Purple Rain, and even showed up recently when Prince read the Planet Earth lyrics as poetry -- the black jacket he was wearing was spot-on to a Hendrix jacket.

Take a look at Adam Ant's styling from the 80s -- in most cases, Adam did the look before P did.

To me the signature Prince look was the purple trenchcoat, but I'm sure even that could be linked to something else (the shoulder studs were a big fashion trend of the time).

Really?! Interesting. Yeah, I think Prince borrowed a lot, especially from the New Romantics, in the UK Prince wasn't very unusual looking at all really!! wink
