There'll be a cazillion reviews so you really don't need my two cents here, but I couldn't wait for the preorder so on my lunch break I stopped at the nearest bookstore.

It's far bigger than I expected (and how often do you say that with Prince, hm?) and in my opinion a really beautiful book. Yeah, I'd love to see some shots of Prince sitting in bed in his jammies with a bag of Doritos but that ain't gonna happen. I am relieved however, that the photos in the book do not appear as Photoshopped to death as they appeared online.

It's a great addition to the collection, and considering he rarely releases live recordings, well worth the money.

Merry Princemas y'all! cool

i felt really sorry 4 him one night in london after he did black sweat and the response after the song was done was very lukewarm. prince then responds "ah prince ur such a tease, play us something we know"

now that is a very sad statement 4 a artist that is trying 2 branch out and create and share his latest efforts but his "fans" don't want 2 grow with him, and want 2 contain him in2 a small box of time.

That happens with every artist who has a reasonably long career though. Although many will want new music too, the old stuff is what you know, love and have grown up with - its familiar.

It happened when I went to see George Michael last year. He has made some great music in his career but the songs that got the most reception were from his Wham days. Its nostalgia.

Also P is not played mainstream (radio/MTV) like he used to be so people don't have as much chance of hearing tracks like Black Sweat as versus 10 - 15 years ago.

granted he's not on mainstream media like it was but still his fans know of the new music. it's about letting an artist b all they can b and not what the fans want that artist 2 b. so that's y i will continue 2 fight 4 the artistic side of prince that wants 2 do the new music live instead of the countless times he's done what is "familiar". it's not prince's fault that some aren't familiar with the music and he shouldn't have 2 suffer because of it, nor some of his fans either
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I bought the book on my break from class today. I haven't had the chance to listen to the CD yet, but I have looked at all the pictures.

Some are lovely, but for the most part they struck me as bland and unimaginative. It is in no way revealing. The images clearly represent photo sessions, not candid insights. The pictures are slick concoctions. I was hoping for raw material.

It's still a lovely collectible piece though. I don't regret buying it. And when I get a chance to listen to the CD, I'm sure that will seal the deal for me.

21 Nights is at Borders and it will make a great present for a Prince fan or photography collector.

Pros
1.Great Pictures of Prince solo!
2.Cool to see fellow Chicagoan Debbie (Deborah) McGuan credited as designing several of Prince's outfits.

Cons
1.Too many photos of the supporting cast of women!!!!!
2.Too many staged shots. Is this coffee table book suppose to tell a story, but in a photo shoot setting instead of real photos? Bad idea.
3.I have stayed at many hotels and maids (housekeeping) DO NOT dress that sexy.

What I would have preferred
1. Natural photos of Prince sleeping on the airplane over to London, rehearsing, actually going into the hotel, on the elevator (lift), walking down the street, sitting in the car by himself, putting on makeup, getting his hair curled.

Favorite Photo
1. Prince and his wardrobe. Vanity is his name!

Wow the book is BEAUTIFUL..

it looks like a REAL book!!!
i mean it doesnt look like a 'made by the npg music club' book.
it is definitely FIRST RATE!

lots of complaints so far about there being too many pix of the supporting cast.. maybe / maybe not..

but the pix of prince are gorgeous and i just cant get over the high quality of the book..
i am so happy!

im going to buy a few copies and keep them sealed up, you never know!

I've just picked up the book from a bookstore here in Brisbane. First impressions - probably slightly dissapointing. The overwhelming majority of shots are staged or are unnecessary 'scenery' shots - not that there's anything wrong with that, I just would have prefered more live shots. Even the ones that are there have text plastered all over them. But my major gripe is that most of the photos go over two pages, which means you get this big ass line down the centre where the two pages meet at the spine. It kind of ruins a couple of photos.

On the plus side, there's slightly more original 'poetry' than I expected, though I haven't had a real good chance to digest it all yet. The book is also huge, and the actual photography is first rate. There are some classics in there.

I gotta say I got a huge laugh out of the picture of Prince's personalised gold plated JW bible! WTF??!!! ;D

Recieved the book 2day. Very impressed it arrived the day it was released. Very beautiful book its packaged and designed nicely.I expected more pics. But understand the concept of the book. The book leaves U wanting more of Prince.I Like how the cd holder is made in the book. Also like the poems and song lyrics and how it tells a story. The book is bigger than I thought it would b. But over all very classy book

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

1st impression ..damn that's a big book, i didn't xpect it that big..

anybody else have a hard time trying 2 get that cd out? damn!!! hammer

i can't belive that there aren't more shots documenting the concerts either at the arena or at indigo..wasted opportunity by shooting shots of the hallway of the hotel ..big damn deal

i was interested in the "poems" of songs we don't know and hoping that there is music behind the words a la neo manifesto 4 chaos and disorder

now that the book is out...PRINCE TIME 2 FOCUS ON THE NEW MUSIC and pray that u will promote it by doing more than 5 songs from the album live

Early Sunday morning recieved an e-mail from Amazon saying 21 Nights has been shipped and I should see it any day now. The location of the book is in southern Kentucky, so I would believe the book should arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.

Woot!

Weird.

According to Amazon.Com and USPS.com I received the book Tuesday. It supposedly arrived at my house sometime Tuesday afternoon. Funny thing is that I left at 3pm for the TV station and the mail had not been delivered yet.

When I got home a little after midnight I check my mail, checked for any big packages that were laying near my front door or back door. It seems the mail was not delivered. Called Amazon and explained the situation. They recieved a delivery confirmation from the post office.

Either my next door neighbor has it and will give me the package Wednesday morning, the mail WAS NOT delivered and the package is instead at the local post office branch, or someone stole it from the front of the house. Unfortunately I can't call the post office until the morning, so I will have to sleep on it until the morning.

If the book is somewhere within the city, down the street or with a neighbor -- cool. If not and it was "taken," I will be allowed to get a refund or have the book shipped to me again.

Grrr.

Anyone get delivery from Amazon.co.uk? I'm wondering if everyone's delayed - I got the following email this morning:

My book arrived yesterday and like everyone else I was surprised that it was so big and heavy. The book itself and the photographs are beautifully and very professionally done.
For my taste however the pictures look way too staged and airbrushed. Personally I would have liked more natural and spontaneous pictures.
Nevertheless the book is worth the prize.
Where is part II of the book where Prince makes out with the maid after he returns to his hotel room? biggrin

I also got that email from Amazon so I was just about to ask the same question, has anyone in the UK got theirs from Amazon yet?

I just checked with my local Borders and they have it in stock but its £30, whereas Amazon its £15. Decision time - is it worth it?!
