He was trying to prove something with those last bunch of albums (newpowersoul, Rave, even Emancipation). I think he finally gave up the idea of proving to the world that he is still a great artist. I love Rainbow Children. I can't tell you how many people i know who are shocked to find out that it's Prince coming from my stereo when I'm playing that CD. I think TRC is absolutely one of his best recordings...so no, i don't think you are mad...you just have good taste!
TRC is my favorite Prince album as well. Amen! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Is anyone else feeling me? I love real instruments and I'm never happier than when Prince leaves all the electronics alone and just plays, along with a damn good band. I do love SOTT in particular, and so much of Prince's work, but right now I really love TRC. The older stuff will always be brilliant to me but this is 2002 and right now TRC just seems to fit my mood and feeling better. I can't get inside the heads of people who don't like TRC because of its music. If people don't like the religious side to it I can kinda understand. But musically this is the album I had been hoping for quite a while that Prince would make. Who else had this wish? There must be some of u. Who's feeling me? TRC is amazing and I absolutely love it!!! I ALSO FEEL THAT TRC IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PRINCE CD'S. WITH BOTH THE JAZZ AND FUNK FEEL OF THE MUSIC THE GROOVES ON THIS CD CAN'T BE DENIED. YES IT GET'S MANY SPINS IN MY DISC PLAYER ALSO!!!

I alternate so much. The first time I heard it I sorta liked it, then the lyrics sunk in and I couln't stand it, and then I went to the concerts and heard how fucking awesome the songs were live-- Family Name for sure! --and came home and listened again and thought it was sooo beautiful and artistically stunning. . .but now I never listen to it. Huh.
Doves, Mel!ssa The production of the last 5 years is 2 slick. Every song from TRC gets better when played life (the same goes for the "new power soul" album & GCS2000). I long 2 hear the live album, then TRC will never hit my cd player again. Bart - yes I'm dutch - Groenendijk

don't pity bkk1981, my friend, the universe has "stuck you" with the gold experience (not to mention george michael's older). I know which fate I would prefer... [This message was edited Sun Nov 17 18:18:32 PST 2002 by fairmoan] Well said!!! And I agree with most of the stuff said here - I loved TRC the first time I heard it and still do. Have to say that I think Emancipation is not up there for me (no brilliant songs, and horrible production) But I'm glad some people enjoy it.

I am definetely on the same wavelength as those that love TRC.It did take me a longer time than usual to get into it but its so different compared to the same chart trash thats annoyed me from the music scene for years and its the biggest breath of fresh air ive had for so long.my album of the last two years easily and i cant wait for one nite alone...live now.i advise people to ignore the charts and be openminded about music as the charts is a load of kiddie music that sucks 9 times out of 10.

Bart - yes I'm dutch - Groenendijk[/quote] I think production is what really makes some artists, like Marvin Gaye for example, who's real magic only came alive in the studio. Good thing is Prince is an amazing live artist too, but I think TRC is an album made for listening to on headphones so u can hear every little detail. The production is slick, and that's a good thing. It's also very meticulous and I think it's outstanding. [This message was edited Mon Nov 18 10:32:45 PST 2002 by bkk1981]

Is anyone else feeling me? i agree, the music is simply great! here's a snippet from All Music review: "it all winds up as a bit much, but it doesn't erase the musical facts: this is Prince at his most focused and rewarding in a long time, since Emancipation really. Too bad nobody outside of the diehards cares at this point." Stephen Thomas Erlewine full review: http://www.allmusic.com/c...sxlfke0cqw

No, you are not mad! It's a masterpiece. The lyrics could've been less silly and religous, but on the whole, it's a 9 1/2 on a scale of 10. The music is amazing and his voice is excellent. It's too bad so many others don't feel it and it's also too bad that it wasn't marketed better. It's one of the best releases of 2001 IMO.

This album is AMAZING, or as Chuck D. says, "TRC is blazing, Kid." Anyway, it's the music and the lyrics that makes it a masterpiece. I think TRC is my favorite Prince album, it's deep, it's enlightening, it's spiritual and at the same time it's sensual. It's about where he is right now. I don't think that it's too religious, or preachy as some have said, as much as the message being said, the meaning of it all.
