What would/have Prince's influences say about the man? I would imagine that those alive or dead would've spoken of the true genius and artistry of our purple hero. Miles Davis said it. Joni Mitchell said some nice things. Little Richard said nice things. Dr. Funkenstein himself, George Clinton has nothing but love for his funky disciple. But who else?
What do you think Jimi, The Beatles, Sly, etc. would've said about the man? NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

He's able to do more than I could ever do" The Beatles " He's a bit bizarre but who cares about the personality, it's his music that counts." Miles: "He's multitalented." Little Richard: "he'll never be like me as hard as he tries."

J C: " My son, I brought you on earth to play music and bring some peace among people, you've done well. Some fans have been listening to you for decades, others have sit down and camped to get tickets to concerts, others have been arrested by the police for trying to jump over the fence and knock on your door, others have followed all your advice."
Wait a minute, is JC still an influence on Prince?

"there is no middle ground with this guy, either u love him or hate him" -Eric Clapton man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

If Jimi were still alive, I'd bet money that there would have been a monster collaboration with Jimi, Miles and Prince. Jimi and Miles were already working towards collaboration before his death.
As for the Beatles, I read that Sir Paul attended one of the Musicology shows (Reno?), and I'm sure there's a mutual appreciation thing going on there, especially with Prince covering Beatles songs as of late. Ringo has toured with Sheila E, and performed with her on some Prince songs live. Considering Sly worked with Jesse, I doubt Sly would have anything but good things to say about Prince's musical legacy. Hell, Prince literally carried on the legacy of Sly and The Family Stone at some points. Sly lives in Vallejo now, someone should ask him!

The sly collab, I don't think so. I think there's some kind of reason because of it, otherwise it would have happened by now. Seeing Sly in concert recently strengthens my belief.
Furthermore, Brian May attended one of the O2 shows and raved about Prince for a bit on his blog...
